Chatting to The Sun alongside co-star Gillian Taylforth, who plays Kathy Beale, Anita admitted: "It took a lot of talking because I wanted it to be right and I didn't want to do it if it wasn't going to actually work.
"So we did have a bit of chatting over
the script
and it just felt like the right time."

She also confirmed she would not be back for any
future
cameos as she revealed she viewed her one-off return as a final outing for Angie.
Anita said: "It was a
nice
way to say goodbye to Angie for me.
Her return as Angie was kept such a closely-guarded secret that even most of her co-stars were unaware it was happening until it aired on-screen in all its glory.
Co-star Gillian added to The Sun on the red carpet: "We knew nothing about the scene that she did with Tish [Dean, Sharon Watts].

Anita's comeback proved all the worthwhile after it managed to bag the Soap Award for Scene Of The Year.
It was one of a whopping eight awards that EastEnders managed to pick up on the night amid their current soap dominance.

ITV's offerings Emmerdale and Coronation Street suffered badly, with the Dales-based soap taking home just two awards, with Corrie only being awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award prize.
Hollyoaks ended the night in second place after collecting a total of three gongs.
The British Soap Awards airs tonight at 8pm on ITV.

A quarter (24 per cent) who watch with others get cheesed off when their sofa-mates eat snacks too loudly. While 21 per cent find it frustrating when other people keep the volume too low. The research was commissioned by M&M'S to launch its latest platform, It's More Fun Together, turning TV quirks into something worth celebrating, with a Couch Confessions pop-up in London, hosted by TV-lover celebs Sam Thompson and Scarlett Moffatt. Advertisement Reality TV star Scarlett Moffatt, said: 'TV nights at home are my love language, chaotic, full of theme-tune singalongs and subtitle debates. 'But hunkering down on the couch with Scott and Jude is what makes it so special. 'I love celebrating the little quirks that turn ordinary nights into unforgettable family moments, because watching together is always more fun, even if Jude is the remote-control-king nowadays.' A quarter of those polled confessed to being a nightmare to watch TV with, because they're always asking questions themselves. For 40 per cent of them, they're just trying to understand a plot point better - but 31 per cent admitted they simply weren't paying enough attention. Advertisement The research also revealed what TV viewers would like to make watching telly collectively better - with 20 per cent opting for snack bowls that perfectly divide portions between people. And 19 per cent would like a family-sized footstool, so everyone could put their feet up, and 15 per cent long for a device that sets the TV at the 'perfect' volume. Brits also found an appetite for celebrity company in front of the box, with David Attenborough, Ant and Dec and Olivia Colman ranking top three of Britain's most sought-after telly companions. And all three have connections to long-standing resident, Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard). A source told The Sun Online: 'They were all hugely popular characters in the 90s and had to be a part of the anniversary. Advertisement 'Hollyoaks might have a lot of younger viewers now but bosses really wanted to remember the 90s roots, so there's set to be some real nostalgia coming up.' The stars have already begun filming their scenes. Hollyoaks declined to comment when approached by The Sun Online. During their time on Hollyoaks, all three became central to major storylines that defined the show as a soap for younger audiences – especially when it came to Tony. Advertisement It's been years since any of the characters have appeared in the Hollyoaks world, although Redmond has repeatedly reprised his role of Finn for guest stints to mark special occasions. Arriving on the show as a free-spirited heartthrob in 1998, Finn became close friends with Tony Hutchinson, even going into business together. While he left in 2002, he later returned for a stint in after-watershed spin-off Hollyoaks Later, the 20th anniversary in 2015, and again for Christmas in 2017. His last appearance was in 2018, when Finn left for Margate after taking the fall for Cindy Cunningham (Steph Waring) stealing £10,000 for the purchase of a restaurant. Natalie Casey's Carol arrived on the soap in 1996, but hasn't been seen since 2000. She also had close ties to both Finn and particularly Tony, with whom she had a will they/won't they relationship. Advertisement Eventually, she left to perform on cruise ships, confessing her feelings to Tony before she did so in special Hollyoaks: Boys Do Barca.
