Edinburgh woman's 'incredible' time on Netflix set to offer her unique expertise
An Edinburgh womans unique experience led her to the set of the newly-released Netflix series Department Q.
Heather Muir, a contact lens technician at independent practice in the capital, played a behind-the-scenes role in the show - which was filmed in and around Edinburgh. A 'seasoned expert' in handling contact lenses, Heather was brought on for specalist support.
She worked closely with actors and makeup artists for the series, with hit Netflix on Thursday, April 29. The thriller show follows a former top detective who takes on a cold- case, transforming an Edinburgh basement into a 'well-oiled machine' filled with misfit officers.
Heather commented on her experience while on set, saying: "It was an incredible experience to collaborate with such a talented production team.
"Blending medical expertise with the creative world of television was a unique opportunity, and it was a memorable experience to be on location with the production team."

Heather works with Cameron Optometry, and also worked on Guillermo Del Toro's latest blockbuster which was filmed in Edinburgh.
Department Q features plenty of familiar faces from shows such as Downton Abbey, Shetland and Call the Midwife. You'll spot the likes of Matthew Goode, Kelly MacDonald, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne and Jamie Sives.
Filming for the series took place in early 2024, with cast and crew descending on spots around the city including housing estates in Wester Hailes, City Chambers, and The Signet Library.

Leah Byrne, who plays Rose, spoke exclusively to Reach about her experience on set with fellow actor Alexej Manvelov, who plays Akram.
Speaking about the abundance of Scottish talent on the show, she said: "It was so cool, such a joy for me. I'm from Glasgow so I just had to nip down the road and we were filming this amazing show.
"But it's so authentically Scottish as well. It doesn't feel like it's trying to be something it's not. It doesn't have to try hard and it's just in its blood."

Cate Blanchett has addressed how her hugely-secretive Squid Game guest appearance in the show's final episode came about and where it could go next. The 56-year-old told the publication that she didn't even do a wardrobe fitting for the unnamed role, instead bringing her own suit to filming and learning 'very quickly' to play ddakji. 'I had to practice and practice,' she said. 'I knew there were four or five setups that they were going to do, and I knew what they needed from every shot, and then I was given the [script pages]. While creator Hwang Dong-hyuk didn't initially have the three seasons mapped out, he concludes the tale of Player 456, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) in a seamless way that feels as though it was always meant to be a three-part story. As for why season three isn't a clear 10/10, the main qualm I have pertains to a group of characters who are so distracting they bring me back to real life with a sharp jolt – the VIPs. Their presence is jarring and feels unnecessary, even if the intention is to demonstrate who the game is being held for. But, the final moments of season three genuinely made me jaw drop in the best way possible. The chief takeaway from Blanchett's cameo, as well as the scene's reveal that an international version of the Game exists, was that Netflix appeared to be setting up a show spin-off. The Great British Sewing Bee star abruptly stops during on-air chat 'I can't say' The Great British Sewing Bee star Patrick Grant appeared on BBC's The One show on Monday night as he chatted about the new series The Great British Sewing Bee judge Patrick Grant was forced to remain tight-lipped about the possibility of a future challenge. The Scottish tailor, 53, has made his comeback for the show's 11th series alongside fellow judge Esme Young and presenter Sara Pascoe. Despite the programme featuring numerous inventive and unconventional tasks over the years, there remains one particular challenge that hasn't yet made it onto our screens - something Patrick was questioned about during his appearance on The One Show with presenters Alex Scott and Roman Kemp. When Alex pressed him about potentially reviving Y-fronts as a challenge theme, Patrick appeared momentarily lost for words before starting to respond, only to halt himself and remark: "I can't say." Following the introduction of new challenges during Korea Week on The Great British Sewing Bee, which celebrated the nation's rich fashion and textiles, Patrick hinted at future excitement, revealing to "There's another great one next year. It's a really good set of challenges." "I really enjoy the international weeks because I really enjoy finding out about the kind of ins and outs of their culture and their clothing traditions," he shared with the outlet.
