Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith, who hasn't been bashful about bashing the 'Boys in recent years, doesn't like what has happened in the Dallas-Philly rivalry.
'I'm sick of it,' Smith said during an appearance on WIP Radio. 'We have allowed others to nitpick at The Star and make fun of The Star and make fun of The Star and that's what happens — now all of a sudden over the last 20 years, they win two Super Bowls and they think they're the best thing on the planet, and everywhere I go I hear, 'Go Birds.' I'm sick of hearing, 'Go Birds.' I'm always asking where are you going? You still got a long way to go to get to us.'
But they're getting there. The Eagles are far better positioned to get to the Super Bowl this year than the Cowboys, along with most of the other NFC teams.
'That part bugs me, it bugs me because in my heart I truly believe our organization should be contending for an NFC Championship and even a Super Bowl at least once or twice every decade because every team recycles every decade,' Smith said. 'For us not to be there over the last 30 years is a crying shame.'
Indeed it is. And it's not as if the Cowboys don't have talent. But they don't manage the talent well, in that they wait too long to reward it.
When it comes to paying key players, owner Jerry Jones and company drag their feet. Last year, they waited too long to extend the contracts of receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott. If they'd moved more quickly, who knows? Maybe the Cowboys — not the Eagles — would have pilfered running back Saquon Barkley from the Giants.
Yes, New York routinely gets dragged for letting Barkley go. But anyone could have had him. And the Cowboys, who have spent plenty of time explaining away the decision to not sign running back Derrick Henry a year ago, could have had the guy who ended up being the very large straw in an extremely potent drink that propelled Philadelphia to another Super Bowl.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys missed the playoffs. Which makes it very hard to end the streak of non-appearances in the NFC Championship.

Sanders sustained the injury during drills ahead of practice Wednesday. Sanders and the Browns were in Philadelphia for a pair of joint practices ahead of Saturday's preseason game. The Browns said Sanders is day to day. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said ahead of Thursday's practice that Sanders would be out 'for a little bit' and the team wanted to be smart with his health because the former Colorado standout is 'a thrower.' 'If you're a right guard, you can kind of play though that,' Stefanski said. 'When it's a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw.' Sanders wasn't completely ruled out for Saturday's game. Stefanski said backup Joe Flacco won't play against the Eagles. Tyler 'Snoop' Huntley and Dillon Gabriel could get the bulk of playing time. Kenny Pickett is limited with a hamstring injury. Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards with two first-half touchdown passes to Kaden Davis in his NFL preseason debut in a win over Carolina on Friday night. The Browns took Sanders in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He wasn't selected until the 144th overall pick, a stunning fall for one of the most recognizable players in the draft class. Sanders finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting last season for Colorado and threw for a school-record 4,134 yards last season. 'Injuries stink for all these guys,' Stefanski said. After plummeting to the NFC West cellar with a 6-11 finish in 2024, San Francisco is eyeing a bounce-back season toward title contention. Though 2024 went haywire in a hurry, the 49ers are just one season removed from a Super Bowl trip. San Francisco reloaded with 11 2025 NFL draft picks, including their first five choices on the defensive side of the football. The 49ers need several of their key offensive skill pieces to get healthy, but the return of running back Christian McCaffrey should help San Francisco rebound toward its heights as the No. 3 scoring offense in 2023. How big of a bounce-back can the 49ers author in 2025, though? ESPN took a look at each team's 2025 floor and ceiling. According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, the 49ers floor is 7-10 and its ceiling is 12-5. ESPN cited its youth movement as the 49ers' biggest 2025 X-factor. Can the many young players the 49ers are counting on take a step forward and produce quickly? The Niners said goodbye to nearly 20 players via free agency, release or trade, and they didn't spend much on signing outside players to fill those gaps. Instead, the Niners are counting on an 11-player draft class and plenty of other young veterans to become full-time starters or key reserves. San Francisco is banking on star-level production from its elite players, but it could easily have as many as seven first- or second-year players starting on defense.
