Gang leader killed in Bukit Tunku shootout

PETALING JAYA : A gang leader was killed in a shootout at Jalan Bukit Tunku in Kuala Lumpur early this morning, say police.
Bukit Aman acting criminal investigation department (CID) director Fadil Marsus said the suspect had a criminal record with 44 previous cases, and was believed to be the mastermind behind a group involved in house break-ins and drug trafficking in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Perak.
The shootout occurred at 4.10am during a special operation conducted by Bukit Aman CID and Kuala Lumpur police headquarters, Harian Metro reported.
Fadil said a pistol believed to have been used during the shootout was also seized from the suspect.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — A man, believed to be a foreigner, was arrested for trespassing onto the Light Rail Transit (LRT) tracks at Masjid Jamek station along the Ampang line here yesterday. Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the man, in his 20s, was detained after being spotted by the Integrated Control Centre crossing from Platform 2 to Platform 1 via the tracks at 10.11am. 'The complainant, a Prasarana auxiliary police officer, received information from the control centre and immediately went to the location before apprehending the suspect. He was then brought to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for further action,' he said in a statement today. Sulizmie said the man failed to produce any valid identification documents when requested by police and had trespassed onto the tracks in an attempt to take a shortcut to his workplace. 'A police investigation paper has been opened under Section 447 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. A remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be made today to facilitate investigations,' he said. He also advised the public not to trespass into restricted areas, which could endanger both themselves and others. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Police will arrest Kelantanese singer Eda Ezrin, her husband, and four friends the moment they return from Thailand, which released them from drug charges yesterday. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said officers have been deployed for this purpose ahead of their arrival, Sinar Harian reported. He added that two individuals from the group will be arrested under Section 5(2) of the Immigration Act 1958/63 for entering Thailand illegally. Eda Ezrin, whose real name is Wan Norshaheeda Azlin Wan Ismail, 30, will be detained along with her husband, Mohd Affendi Ahmad, 35, and three others. The group is scheduled to arrive at the Sungai Golok police station this afternoon, after clearing the Golok Immigration Detention Depot. They were released from Narathiwat Central Prison yesterday after the Narathiwat Provincial Court rejected the prosecution's sixth attempt to extend the appeal deadline. Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said Kelantan police will record their statements and collect urine samples for drug screening.

MACHANG, Aug 7 — A 39-year-old man has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation into the suspected murder of his father at a house in Kampung Baru Kuala Gris, Dabong, Kuala Krai, yesterday. Magistrate Amal Razim Alias issued the remand order, effective until August 13, to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Earlier, the suspect, clad in a purple lock-up attire, arrived at the court at 9.15am in a police vehicle. The body of a 74-year-old man was found in the kitchen of his house with serious head injuries, believed to have been caused by a blunt object. He was confirmed dead at the scene. Police later detained a male suspect, who is the victim's son, and seized a broken chair believed to have been used in the incident. The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and was a former inmate of the Batu Jong Satellite Prison in Kuala Krai. He was released in early July after serving a sentence for a drug-related offence. — Bernama
