The annual allocation of NFL rights for top college talent was held in front of thousands of fans gathered outside Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the home of the Green Bay Packers.
The Titans were handed the top draft spot ahead of Cleveland at second and the New York Giants picking third after all three finished an NFL-worst 3-14 last season.
Ward, a 22-year-old from Texas, completed 305 of 454 passes for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns with only seven interceptions and ran 60 times for 204 yards and four touchdowns for the Hurricanes last season.
'The hard work that I put myself through, just the unbelievable work ethic that I have, I just always had faith,' Ward told ESPN.

But that pick, widely expected, was quickly overshadowed by the Jaguars trading for Cleveland's No 2 pick to secure Hunter.

Aaron Rodgers reportedly set to join Steelers
Aaron Rodgers reportedly set to join Steelers The move brings the quarterback's two-year stint with the New York Jets to an end. File photo: Reuters Four-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers has told the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers he will sign a one-year deal and participate in next week's mini-camp, according to multiple reports. The 41-year-old quarterback struggled last season in a 5-12 campaign with the New York Jets, who fired coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas along the way. ESPN and The NFL Network reported that Rodgers told the Steelers he would arrive on Friday to sign a contract and begin preparing for workouts Tuesday through Thursday of next week. The Steelers lacked a veteran signal caller after Russell Wilson was signed by the New York Giants, but in Rodgers have landed a future Hall of Fame quarterback with 62,952 career passing yards and 503 career touchdown passes. Pittsburgh will offer Rodgers a chance to face his former clubs with a season opener on September 7 at the Jets and an October 26 home game against the Green Bay Packers, with whom Rodgers won the 2011 Super Bowl by beating the Steelers 31-25. In a 20-year career, Rodgers won MVP honours in 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021 with the Packers. Last season, Rodgers completed 368 of 584 passes for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. NFL players cleared to take part in 2028 Olympics
NFL players cleared to take part in 2028 Olympics Washington Commanders players during an NFL divisional round game against the Detroit Lions. File photo: AFP NFL players have been given the green light to take part in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics following a vote by team owners, the league confirmed. A resolution allowing players to participate at the 2028 Games, when gridiron's non-contact version – 'flag football' – will be a new sport, was approved by NFL team owners at a meeting in Minnesota. The move potentially sets the stage for an NFL 'Dream Team' featuring some of the sport's biggest stars, with several prominent players already expressing an interest in playing in Los Angeles. "It's an incredible honor for any athlete to represent their country in the Olympics, which is the pinnacle of global sport," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. "I know first-hand that the inclusion of flag football in the Olympics has sparked a tremendous amount of excitement among NFL players interested in the chance to compete for their country on the world stage. We are thrilled that they will now have that chance." Flag football is an abbreviated, five-a-side form of American football, where players "tackle" each other by grabbing a flag attached to the waist of opponents. Six men's teams and six women's teams will take part in the Olympic tournament in 2028, with each squad comprised of 10 players. Goodell said allowing NFL players to participate in the Olympics was in line with the league's desire to boost the global appeal of the sport. "This is a great opportunity for the sport," Goodell said. "It's truly the next step in making NFL football and football a global sport for men and women of all ages and opportunities across the globe." "We think this is the right thing to do, and this is a big step in accomplishing that," he added. Under the rules set out in the resolution, only one player per NFL team can compete on each national team participating in the Olympic tournament. Additionally, teams' designated international players will be allowed to play for their respective home countries. The resolution also requires Olympic flag football teams to implement minimum standards for medical staff, and requires field playing surfaces to be up to NFL standards. Several NFL players have already expressed an interest in playing in the Olympics, with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Kansas City Chiefs counterpart Patrick Mahomes among those indicating a desire to play in the Games. Pacers book Conference Finals spot with win over Cavs
Pacers book Conference Finals spot with win over Cavs Haliburton, left, led the charge for Indiana with 31 points in the road win. Photo: Reuters Tyrese Haliburton scored 31 points as the Indiana Pacers came from behind to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-105 and send the top seeds tumbling out of the NBA playoffs. A flurry of six three-pointers from Haliburton helped Indiana wrap up a 4-1 series victory as the Cavaliers' promising season fizzled out in disappointing fashion on their home court. Haliburton's scoring was backed by 21 points from Pascal Siakam while Aaron Nesmith contributed 13 points with 13 rebounds. Andrew Nembhard scored 18 points. Trailing 3-1 heading into Tuesday's game five, Cleveland looked ready to keep the series alive after surging into a 19-point lead midway through the second quarter at the Rocket Arena. But Haliburton sparked into life to drain five-of-five from three-point range in a 15-point second quarter to flip the script and slash Cleveland's advantage to just four points at 56-52 heading into halftime. The Pacers' scoring onslaught continued into the third quarter with the visitors outscoring Cleveland 33-20 to open up a commanding 85-76 lead as the fourth quarter got under way. Cleveland threatened to rally in the final frame after 16 points from Donovan Mitchell, who was clearly still troubled by the sore left ankle that had threatened to rule him out of the contest. A Mitchell three-pointer closed the Indiana lead to one point at 98-97 with just over five minutes remaining. But the Cavaliers' failure to threaten from three-point range – they managed to convert just nine-of-35 attempts from beyond the arc – continued to be a problem and hopes of a comeback were snuffed out by the Pacers defense. Fourth-seeds Indiana will now meet either the Boston Celtics or arch-rivals the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals, with the winner advancing to next month's NBA Finals. The Knicks lead the series with Boston 3-1 and can book a showdown with Indiana if they manage a victory over the Celtics on Wednesday. (AFP)
