Blake Lively Files to Sanction Justin Baldoni Team Over ‘Willfully Improper' Claim of Taylor Swift Extortion
Blake Lively has filed a motion requesting her 'It Ends With Us' co-star and director Justin Baldoni and his team be hit with sanctions after their claims that Lively extorted Taylor Swift in exchange for her public support.
In Lively's legal team's the 30-page motion, which was filed Monday in New York's Southern District Court, they state Baldoni's claims have 'no reasonable basis in law and clearly were brought for an improper purpose' and that the claims were filed as an 'obvious' vehicle 'to seed harassing media narratives against Ms. Lively.'
'These public attacks, combined with the Rule 11 Plaintiffs filing numerous claims against Ms. Lively without any basis in law or fact, is willfully improper and warrants sanctions,' the legal document read.
In a second motion Monday, the actress' legal team filed to acquire records of the 'It Ends With Us' investigation into its filmmakers' purported sexual harassment.
Lively's team submitted the letter motion to 'compel' Wayfarer Studios and the 'It Ends With Us' movie to 'to produce materials' in response to Lively's 'Fourth Set of Requests for Production,' which seeks documents and witness recordings Wayfarer allegedly 'purported 'neutral' workplace investigation into Lively's sexual harassment and retaliation claims.'
'This so-called 'Investigation' is a disingenuous charade. Wayfarer failed (although it was legally required) to investigate Ms. Lively's concerns when she first raised them in May 2023,' the four-page letter submitted to Judge Lewis J. Liman read. 'Had it done so, Ms. Lively would have participated in such an investigation, and it would have substantiated the sexual harassment she suffered while on the set of the film 'It Ends With Us' (the 'Film'), which included (among other things) Mr. Baldoni's unsolicited discussions about his addiction to pornography and sex life, and his improvised intimacy scenes without Ms. Lively's consent.'
'If her complaints were promptly investigated, as the law requires, she may also have been spared the retaliatory smear campaign by Wayfarer and its Co-Defendants,' the letter went on. 'Instead, Wayfarer waited years, until late January 2025, to initiate this Investigation. By that time, Wayfarer had already forcefully publicly denied Ms. Lively's allegations and sued her and several others for $400 million for making the very same allegations that are now the subject of this 'neutral' investigation (for a workplace that no longer exists, the Film set). What's more, by January, its counsel had repeatedly called Ms. Lively a liar in widely-circulated media interviews.'
By the end of the letter, Lively's team referred to the requested investigation items as 'highly relevant' and 'necessary' for Lively's team and court to 'ensure that witness engagement has been proper, and have been put at issues by Wayfarer.'
Lively's latest hit back at Baldoni comes after Baldoni's attorney Bryan Freedman has claimed in a new letter that Blake Lively's lawyer threatened to release Taylor Swift's 'private text messages of a personal nature' unless the singer agreed to delete supposedly incriminating texts.
Swift's attorney Mike Gottlieb quickly responded, 'This is categorically false. We unequivocally deny all of these so-called allegations, which are cowardly sourced to supposed anonymous sources, and completely untethered from reality.'
On Thursday, Lively's attorneys filed a motion to have the letter stricken from the record, which was granted. A spokesperson at the time said in a statement, 'It took the court less than 24 hours to see through Mr. Freedman's irrelevant, improper and inflammatory accusations, strike them, remove them from the court and warn Mr. Freedman that further misconduct may be met with sanctions.'
Judge Liman wrote in his ruling, 'The Letter is improper and must be stricken. It is irrelevant to any issue before this Court and does not request any action from this Court … The sole purpose of the Letter is to 'promote public scandal' by advancing inflammatory accusations, on information and belief, against Lively and her counsel.'

Kevin Smith Is Very Excited About His Idea for ‘Dogma 2'
The 'Clerks,' 'Mallrats,' and 'Red State' director has cracked the idea for the long-awaited sequel. If it feels like you've been hearing about Kevin Smith's Dogma a lot in recent weeks, that's by design. Though the film's 25th anniversary was last year, writer and director Kevin Smith took his time with it, prepping a massive national tour of the film that's been happening for a few months now. It's also being re-released into select theaters starting today. The jewel of that celebration, though, was a screening at the Cannes Film Festival last month and there, Smith spoke about how he's finally got an idea to go back to the world of Mooby's and the Buddy Christ for Dogma 2. 'I cracked the story,' Smith told Deadline. 'I absolutely love it. I feel like when people see it, they'll be like, 'Oh, I get it,' like 'that makes sense' kind of thing. Hopefully they'll be like, 'that's clever' and not be like, 'Well shit, I would have done that.'' Smith, of course, didn't say what his idea was, but did hint that it has a place in it for everyone in the original movie. That, presumably, includes stars Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Linda Fiorentino, Chris Rock, Jason Lee, and others. 'I will set a place at the table for everyone who was in the first movie who is still alive,' Smith said. 'Sadly, Alan [Rickman] and George [Carlin] won't be able to join us, but I'll set a place at the table for all of them. If they want to come back, they'll have a role to play, but if not, no harm, no foul. The story I'm telling can definitely make use of everybody who is in Dogma, but I can also tell it without. So, that makes me pretty excited to go forward. It's its own unique tale.' Though Smith's career has shifted in recent years, with a focus on smaller, weirder movies like Tusk, Yoga Hosers, and The 4:30 Movie, he knows that if he does decide to make a Dogma sequel, he can't do so lightly. 'It's like one of the last fucking movies I ever made that's beloved across the boards and shit like that,' he said. 'I would never step up to the plate unless I was like, 'Oh, this will fucking work nicely as a companion piece.' So, I feel pretty great about it, man. But of course during the whimsy stage one always feels great about it. It's when you make it and everyone sees it and they're like, 'Well, that fucking sucks. You should have left well enough alone.' You just hope it doesn't come to that.' Finally, Smith's ultimate ambition with Dogma 2 would be to debut it at Cannes, where he debuted the original in 1999 and where he screened it again in 2025 to a very enthusiastic crowd. ''Why is it that you assume that the Cannes-worthy portion of your life is over?'' Smith asked himself. ''You never even expected it to begin in the first place. It was never part of the aim. It just came along with the journey. Maybe if you really try, you could.' So, it was the 78th edition this year and so I was like, 'You know what? I wanna come back on the 80th, or the 81st at the latest with the Dogma sequel, like that's a Cannes-worthy movie.' And so, I said that on stage when I was intro-ing and everybody applauded, and [festival director] Thierry Frémaux was on stage with me, and he adds, 'If it is good,' and I was like, 'Fair enough, if it's good, yes.'' Can Smith turn that idea into a script and get it funded? He's done it in recent years with Jay and Silent Bob as well as Clerks. So, as the stars of Dogma might say, you've just got to have faith. The internet wants to see two best friends fight. Especially if they're women. Rumors are swirling this week about famous besties Blake Lively and Taylor Swift, who have been dragged into conversations involving Lively's legal battle with "It Ends With Us" co-star Justin Baldoni. While the ins and outs of the legal case appear to get messier by the day, the latest twist has entangled America's favorite pop star and longtime companion of Lively. The short of it: New claims indicate Lively pressured the pop star to get involved in the legal matter. Per Baldoni's lawyers', Lively's attorney Michael Gottlieb demanded a statement in support of Lively from Swift. This demand included the threat that private text messages between the women would be released if Swift did not comply. A spokesperson for Swift has emphasized the singer's minimal involvement with the film. The rumor mill is convinced the suit has caused the pair's yearslong friendship to sour. Another alleged the fight was a conspiracy between Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, to gain footing by leveraging the pop star's high-profile. But the very suggestion these two women are foes rather than friends shows just how much the internet loves to see two women fight. Look no further than fan speculation of a years-long battle between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber or supposed pop-princess grievances between Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo. That we crave crisis from notable women says more about us, though, according to Elizabeth Cohen, professor of communication studies at West Virginia University. This is because we have have a parasocial relationship with celebrities like Swift and Lively, Cohen said. We feel like we known them personally, so that makes the thought of their demise extra dramatic for us. "We might feel like we're friends with them, so if they're breaking up, it might have real emotional impacts on us," she said, adding "it would be weirder if we didn't." If you're a Swiftie, holding hands with Swift through hardship is part of the job description. To fans, it's almost an expectation, not an exception, to feel pain with her. "The reason we keep opening and clicking on updates is ... because we can all identify with it," said Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University. "Very few of us can identify with being as rich as Taylor Swift, or as powerful as she is. But all of us can understand a friendship breaking up ... It's the portion of the fabulous lifestyle that we can actually enter into." There's also a less empathetic explanation, Cohen said. We get a kind of twisted joy by seeing greatness fall apart, Cohen said. This is because of something called schadenfreude, the feeling of pleasure derived from witnessing another's pain, Cohen said. It can be as benign as laughing when a TV character trips and falls or as dark as finding glee in a coworker's failure. Celebrity misfortunes only accentuate schadenfreude dynamics because they have seemingly have so much farther to fall. And for women, because their elevation in male-dominated Hollywood is already precarious, the way down is even further. "This isn't the noble part of the human spirit, but I think it is part of human nature," said Thompson.
