Stormy start to UP govt's monsoon session as Opposition protest over DISCOM privatization, other issues
The CM informed the media persons during an interaction at state assembly that on August 13 and 14, the House would hold a continuous 24-hour discussion on this vision, a consensus for which was reached in the all-party meeting. CM Yogi said the session—held in the third year of the Amrit Kaal—would chart a decisive course for development, with the government set to present a 25-year action plan in the Assembly.
The CM said the state government was advancing with the vision of 'Viksit UP' to contribute to the national resolve of a self-reliant and developed India. This vision, prepared in collaboration with NITI Aayog and experts, would ensure participation from all sections of society.
Significantly, the state government intends to incorporate the opinion of the general public in the vision document for 'Viksit Uttar Pradesh.'
'By 2047, when India becomes a developed nation, Uttar Pradesh too will stand proudly as a 'Developed Uttar Pradesh',' claimed CM Yogi.
Later, on the floor of house, Yogi said that traders opposed leader of opposition's recent visit to Gorakhpur because of bitter memories of SP-era fear and Goonda Tax. 'The traders have not forgotten the exploitation they suffered under SP rule. You went there uninvited, trying to obstruct development, and they respectfully opposed you,' he said, stressing that people cannot expect either security or development from SP.
Recalling the infamous Sambhal incident under the SP regime, CM Yogi said the present dispensation was carrying out a 'purification drive' in the area to undo the negativity spread by the Samajwadis. 'SP is still clinging to its old habits, opposing development at every step,' he remarked. 'The BJP and NDA governments are committed to development—but SP simply cannot tolerate it,' he asserted.

‘Beti', ‘Bahu', to MP, leader: The evolution of Dimple Yadav
In 2009, when Dimple Yadav made her debut in politics by contesting a bypoll from the Firozabad Lok Sabha constituency, the then 30-year-old campaigned under the guidance of her husband and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav. On her party's advice, she delivered short speeches, referring to herself as 'beti (daughter)' and 'bahu (daughter-in-law)', greeting audiences with folded hands and waving at crowds when prompted by her husband. Nearly 16 years later, when women MPs of the NDA on July 28 staged a demonstration over a Delhi-based cleric's remarks against Dimple, the SP MP from Mainpuri shot back with a response of her own. 'It would have been better if they had protested against the Manipur violence, the footage of which appeared on social media. It would have been better had they staged demonstrations and stood with the women of Manipur,' Dimple said. The cleric had objected to Dimple not covering her head and wearing a sari for her visit to a mosque in New Delhi on July 21, along with other SP leaders. Incidentally, while the NDA rallied its women MPs in her support, the BJP's minority cell sided with the cleric in criticising Dimple on the issue. Dimple's forceful response to the NDA's backhanded support to her was another example of the 47-year-old SP MP's evolution as a politician in her own right. The change has been increasingly evident since she was picked to contest from the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat held by her father-in-law and SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav after the latter's death. She won the constituency first in a 2022 bypoll, and retained it in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In fact, in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Dimple conducted a parallel campaign to husband Akhilesh Yadav's across UP – often addressing rallies at the same time in different constituencies. Her presence was particularly prominent in constituencies where the SP had put up women. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in October 2023, Dimple shared the stage with leaders of other INDIA bloc parties, including senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, at a Women's Rights Conference held by the DMK in Chennai. It was the first time Dimple had represented the SP at a national-level political event outside UP. In this Parliament, SP leaders recall how last year Dimple took the lead in demanding that the mic of her party colleague and Sambhal MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq be 'switched on' as he spoke in the House about communal violence in his constituency. An SP leader said: 'Dimple ji is now confident while addressing the media in the Parliament complex on her own. She does not hesitate in speaking to mediapersons and party workers.' An SP MP added: 'We consider Dimple ji our leader in the Lok Sabha if Adhyaksh ji (Akhilesh Yadav) is not present. She is the link between us and the party's top leadership.' During the recent protest of Opposition parties against Bihar's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, Dimple was one of the leading speakers from the SP's side. Questioning the increase in the BJP's vote share in recent bypolls in Uttar Pradesh she said the Election Commission had turned a blind eye to this 'dacoity of votes'. According to Juhie Singh, SP spokesperson and national president of the party's women's wing, Dimple played a role – if in the background – even during Akhilesh's tenure as CM in 2012 to 2017. 'Her suggestions were taken to frame policies on women and child welfare, and incorporated into the planning of the 1090 women's helpline. Her idea was to protect women and also empower them. A training programme for anganwadi and ASHA workers was started on her suggestion,' said Singh. The SP leader quoted above said that the 47-year-old has also taken on a more active role as an MP. 'She stays in touch with SP workers in her constituency and acknowledges them.' When Parliament is not in session, Dimple is mostly in Lucknow or Mainpuri meeting party workers. 'Earlier, she took meetings only of the party's women's wing. But now, she participates in meetings of other wings and of office-bearers,' said another leader. Having married Akhilesh in 1999, Dimple contested her first election in 2009, a bypoll to the Firozabad Lok Sabha seat, which she lost to actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar of the Congress. She moved to Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency (vacated by Akhilesh) and won it twice – first in a 2012 bypoll and then in the 2014 general elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, however, she lost to the BJP's Subrat Pathak from the seat by over 12,000 votes. Her next contest was from the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in the 2022 bypoll, necessitated by Mulayam's death. BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said Dimple's only identity continues to be her association with the Mulayam family. 'She gets elected to Parliament because of this and she has no connect to the ground. This is not good for democracy.'

SP expels MLA Pooja Pal hours after she praised CM Adityanath for action against Atiq Ahmad
The Samajwadi Party on Thursday expelled its MLA Pooja Pal, for alleged anti-party activities, hours after she praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the assembly for putting gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad to dust. In a letter issued to the MLA, the party accused Pal of indulging in activities against its interests despite repeated warnings. A copy of the letter, which was undersigned by SP president Akhilesh Yadav, was also marked to the speaker of the legislative assembly. The letter's copy leaked on social media, with SP sources confirming to PTI the expulsion of the woman lawmaker. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak termed the expulsion Samajwadi Party's 'anti-women approach'. The letter said that Pal's actions amounted to 'serious indiscipline' and that she was being removed from all party posts with immediate effect. It also stated that Pal, who represents Chail assembly constituency in Kaushambi district, would no longer be allowed to attend any party programme or meeting, nor be invited to any such event. The expulsion came within hours of Pal's remarks in the ongoing assembly's Monsoon session, where she thanked Adityanath for 'ensuring justice' in the murder of her husband, former Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Raju Pal, who was gunned down in 2005 in Prayagraj in an attack linked to Atiq Ahmad. Deputy CM Pathak said the expulsion of Pooja Pal for 'supporting the vision of developed India' in the House on the eve of Independence Day reflects the 'ghatia soch (cheap mindset)' of the Samajwadi Party. 'The entire House has unanimously accepted that the policy of the Samajwadi Party is anti-women.' Atiq Ahmad, a former MP and multiple-time MLA from Allahabad West, was serving a life sentence in a kidnapping case when he and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three assailants while being escorted by police for a medical check-up in Prayagraj on April 15, 2023. The killing took place in full view of the media and was broadcast live. During a discussion on the 'Vision 2047' document in UP Assembly, Pal said, 'I want to thank Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for seeing my hidden tears that no one noticed for years. 'My grief and pain were acknowledged and justice was delivered,' she said. The MLA said there are many such bereaved families in Prayagraj who have 'received justice' under CM Adityanath. 'Countless women have lost their husbands, countless mothers have lost their sons, and I thank the CM who brought in a zero-tolerance policy to wipe out criminals and mafias like Atiq Ahmad,' Pal said. The opposition MLA then thanked the CM for 'reducing mafia like Atiq Ahmad to dust'.

UP CM highlights infrastructure and industrial growth, criticizes past governance
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the Assembly on the fourth day of the Monsoon Session, reviewing eight and a half years of his government's work in infrastructure, investment, and industrial development. He contrasted the current period (2017–2025) with governance before 2017, citing slow development, limited connectivity, and lack of industrial policy in previous decades. According to the CM, capital expenditure in the state has more than doubled from Rs. 69,789 crore in 2017 to Rs. 1,47,719 crore in 2025. The number of expressways increased from two to 22 — seven operational, five under construction, and 10 proposed — creating what he described as India's largest expressway network. Uttar Pradesh now has 16 airports, including five under construction and five international airports, with Jewar International Airport nearing completion by year-end. Yogi highlighted major logistics projects such as the multimodal hub at Dadri and 27 industrial clusters along expressways, claiming these developments are reducing logistics costs and attracting investment. He said registered factories have risen from 14,169 in 2017 to 27,295 in 2025, with investment proposals worth Rs. 45 lakh crore, out of which projects worth Rs. 15 lakh crore have materialized, generating employment for over 60 lakh youth. The Chief Minister also noted initiatives supporting traditional crafts through the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme and the MSME Policy 2022. Uttar Pradesh ranks first in MSME units with 96 lakh enterprises, creating an estimated 1.75 crore jobs. Over 77 GI-tagged products now represent the state in global markets. Yogi criticized earlier administrations for weak industrial policies, poor law and order, and neglect of artisans, which, he claimed, forced many to migrate. He contrasted the influx of Chinese goods at festivals in previous years with the prominence of UP-made handicrafts today. Foreign investment has also grown, with FDI rising from Rs. 3,303 crore (2000–2017) to Rs. 16,316 crore since 2017. He cited the annual Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show as a platform where more than 500 domestic and foreign traders participated in 2024, securing orders worth Rs. 2,200 crore.
