Jay-Z received death threats in response to rape allegation

Yahoo18-02-2025

Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé were sent death threats after the rapper was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. The 55-year-old star and Sean 'Diddy' Combs had been accused by an unnamed woman of drugging and raping her at an after-party for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City when she was a teenager, but the lawsuit was dismissed last week, though the '99 Problems' hitmaker is pressing ahead with legal action against his accuser's attorney, Tony Buzbee, for emotional distress. And in a declaration to the court obtained by DailyMail.com, the Rock Nation founder argued the lawyer's "public statements about me and accusations against me have caused me harm" and detailed the threats he and his wife had received. He wrote: "People have said 'I can't wait until you join (Combs) in prison. Then later in hell.' "Other comments have accused me of being a 'satanist', a 'trafficker', a 'terrorist', and a 'monster', called me the N-word and threatened violence against me and my wife, including to 'kill' or 'execute' us." It was previously revealed Jay - who has daughter Blue Ivy, 13, and twins Rumi and Sir, seven, with wife Beyonce - alleged he had lost $20 million in contracts since the lawsuit was filed in October 2024. And he accused the lawyer of purposely inflicting emotional distress by deliberately filing the complaint the evening before his daughter's movie premiere for 'Mufasa: The Lion King' to "put me in the position of having to choose between supporting my daughter or hiding to avoid the negative press." He wrote in the declaration: "I felt that Mr. Buzbee was placing a gun to my head that I either bow to his demands or endure personal and financial ruin." Jay - whose real name is Shawn Carter - filed the suit against Buzbee for civil extortion, defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress several months ago but only submitted his declaration this week. After the rape case was dismissed with prejudice, the Roc Nation founder hit out at the "trauma" it had caused for his family. He said in a statement: "Today is a victory. The frivolous, fictitious and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. "The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims. I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed. 'The court must protect victims, OF COURSE, while with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence. May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally.' Jay has always denied the allegations and had made several attempts through his lawyer to kill the case or force the woman to be publicly identified. Buzbee's firm is representing more than 100 alleged victims of Combs, and has filed a flood of suits against Diddy since he was jailed in September to await trial on charges including sex trafficking and racketeering – all of which he denies.

Climber from Leigh becomes youngest Brit to complete three Everest peaks

A CLIMBER has become the youngest Brit and one of just four people to complete the rare 'Everest triple crown' –conquering three Himalayan peaks in a single expedition. Jay Whiting, from Leigh, completed the challenge last month as he successfully climbed neighbouring mountains Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse in quick succession. The 'triple crown' involves climbing the three Himalayan peaks in one climb — a challenge that demands extreme endurance, skill, and determination. Conquered - Jay Whiting, 33, at the summit of Mount Everest. (Image: Jay Whiting) Jay, 33, said: 'This has been a dream of mine for years. 'To complete all three peaks in a single season has been both the hardest and most rewarding thing I've ever done. 'It was a super windy, hard season, so I had to be in good physical and mental shape –But I managed to pull it off.' Jay climbed Nuptse on May 12, Everest on May 20 and Lhotse on May 23, all in a single expedition alongside his sherpa Dawa Tenji, whom he planned the trip with in advance. Adventure - Jay Whiting, 33, at the peak on Lhotse in the Himalayas. (Image: Jay Whiting) He was determined to succeed in the challenge after he attempted to climb Nuptse in 2022, but failed to reach the summit after running out of equipment. Completing the triple crown made him one of only four people in the world to achieve the feat, and the youngest Brit to do so. Jay has been climbing for ten years, conquering mountains such as Mont Blanc, Matterhorn and Ama Dablam, progressing his climbs in difficulty over the years. He added: 'I like the commitment, the personal challenge, setting a goal and working towards it – famous people in the climbing world have tried this challenge and failed.' For this challenge, he had to train for over two years to prepare for the expedition, while working full-time and raising a one-year-old child with his wife. 'The only way to grow as an individual to to explore outside of your comfort zone,' he said. 'It grinds you down and strips you back – Its just you and the mountain.' Jay fundraised for the climb by collecting donations for LandAid, a charity that combats youth homelessness in the UK and a cause Whiting is passionate about. He now hopes his story will inspire others to take on their own challenges – whether in the mountains or closer to home. Visit to donate to LandAid.

'Love Island' Contestant Issues Apology After Being Removed From Show For Saying The N-Word

Shortly after Peacock announced the "Love Island USA" cast in late May 2025, video clips of a new islander, Yulissa Escobar, saying the N-word on a previous podcast went viral online. During the season's second episode, which aired on June 4, 2025, the "Love Island USA" narrator, Iain Stirling, announced that producers had removed Escobar from the villa, which many fans assumed was due to her past problematic statements. Now, after some time to process the news that she'd no longer be in the running for the $100,000 grand prize on the most recent season of "Love Island," Escobar released an apology, which has drawn a mixed reaction from fans. On Instagram, Escobar posted a graphic that read, "Owning my mistakes; speaking my truth." In the caption, she wrote, "First, I want to apologize for using a word I had no right in using," referring to viral clips of her using the N-word while speaking about men during a previous podcast episode. "In those clips, I used a word I never should've used, a racial slur," she wrote. "I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it." She continued, "I wasn't trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn't excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It's tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use." Elsewhere, in her caption, Escobar explained that when she used the word, she was "speaking casually in conversation" and wasn't thinking "deeply or critically" about how her words could impact others. "The truth is, I didn't know better then, but I do now. I've taken the time to reflect, to learn, and to grow from that moment," she added. "I've changed a lot since then, not just in how I speak, but in how I show up, how I carry myself, and how I honor the experiences of others," Escobar continued. "Growth means recognizing when you were wrong, even if it's uncomfortable, and choosing to move forward with humility and accountability." As she finished, the now-former reality star explained that she was choosing to speak for herself and did not want anyone commenting on her behalf. "I'm choosing to speak for myself because I take full ownership of my actions. Do not listen to the fake statements. This is my official statement. This is me, speaking directly to you," she wrote. On X, formerly Twitter, many "Love Island" viewers voiced their opinions about Escobar's statement, with many questioning its sincerity. "Girl, you just got kicked out of the villa," one user wrote. "How much time have you really taken to reflect on this?" "I understand why they chose to have her exit the villa, but she didn't learn anything by that," another user commented. "This apology may or may not have been genuine. Having her stay in the villa and understand the weight of the word would have either been a better lesson or shown viewers how she really feels." "Not understanding the weight, history, or pain of the word? I don't buy it," a user posted. "It doesn't take thinking 'deeply or critically' to know not to say the number one racial slur," another user shared. "This is so embarrassing." However, under Escobar's Instagram post, the 27-year-old also received support from a handful of followers. One user said, "Everybody makes mistakes," while another said, "Life is about growth and learning." "We live, we learn, and we grow!" a third commented. "This doesn't define you. Sending you warm hugs." Since Escobar's exit from the villa, "Love Island USA" producers have brought in two new cast members to turn up the heat, bringing the current lineup to 11. For the women, the cast includes: Chelley Bissainthe, 27, from Orlando, Florida Olandria Carthen, 27, from Decatur, Alabama Huda Mustafa, 24, from Raleigh, North Carolina Belle-A Walker, 22, from Honolulu Cierra Ortega, 25, from Arizona For the men, the cast includes: Austin Shepard, 26, from Northville, Michigan Ace Greene, 22, from Los Angeles Taylor Williams, 24, from Oklahoma City Jeremiah Brown, 25, from Los Angeles Nicolas Vansteenberghe, 24, from Jacksonville, Florida Charlie Georgiou, 27, from the United Kingdom
