Netflix announces The Diplomat release date

New Delhi, Aug 19 (PTI) Streaming service Netflix announced on Monday that the Keri Russell starrer 'The Diplomat" will return on October 16 with its third season.
In the midst of an international crisis, Russell's career diplomat Kate Wyler lands in a high-profile job for which she is not suited, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future, reads the official logline of the series.
Showrunner, creator and executive producer Debora Cahn teased that the upcoming season 'flips the chessboard".
'In season three, Kate lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want," Cahn added Production on the new season wrapped in London and New York.
'We're shooting some stuff already in season three that involves big groups and lots of people, and we do tend to rehearse those (scenes)," Russell said during a November 2024 episode of Netflix's Skip Intro podcast.
'It's such rapid-fire diplomatic speak that we make sure that everyone's on the same page and knows what we're actually talking about." Bradley Whitford of 'The West Wing" and 'The Handmaid's Tale" fame has also joined the cast.
'I was thrilled when I heard that Debora (Cahn) was interested in me doing something," Whitford said.
'I had no idea what it was, but I love the show. I was jealous of the writing on this show," Whitford added.
Returning for the upcoming season are stars Rufus Sawell, David Gyasim, Ali Ahn, Allison Janney and Ato Assandoh. PTI SMR BK BK

Uttarakhand Minority Education Bill introduced in assembly
Agency: Gairsain, Aug 19 (PTI) The Uttarakhand government on Tuesday introduced the Uttarakhand Minority Education Bill 2025, which aims to extend minority status benefits to institutions run by the Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, and Parsi communities, in the state assembly. At present, the minority educational institution status is granted only to the Muslim community. Once the Uttarakhand Minority Education Bill 2025 is implemented, the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board Act, 2016, and the Uttarakhand Non-Government Arabic and Persian Madrasa Recognition Rules, 2019, will be repealed, effective July 1, 2026. When the Act comes into force, the study of Gurumukhi and Pali languages will also be possible in recognised minority educational institutions. This bill provides for the formation of an authority, making it mandatory for educational institutions established by all minority communities to obtain recognition from it. This authority will work to facilitate and promote educational excellence in these institutions so that the children of the minority community get quality education and their educational development can take place. Under the bill, the authority will grant recognition to a minority educational institution only if certain conditions are fulfilled by the applicant. If any condition is violated or the funds received from fees, donations, grants or any other funding source are found to be misused, the recognition of that institution can also be terminated. The authority will ensure that education is imparted in these institutions as per standards set by the Uttarakhand Board of School Education and the evaluation of students is fair and transparent. War 2 Box Office Collection Day 6: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR Film Sees Further Dip, Earns Rs 7.79 Cr

Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's high-octane action film War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, has seen a slowdown in its weekday box office performance. Despite a promising start, the film's momentum is slowing down after its opening weekend. War 2 Collections Dip According to trade website Sacnilk, War 2 earned Rs 7.79 crore net across all languages in India on its sixth day, taking the total to Rs 192.29 crore. The film had grossed Rs 183.50 crore in its first five days, but Tuesday's earnings highlighted a notable dip. On release day, the film recorded massive occupancy and strong collections, but weekdays have brought reduced numbers, signalling a weaker hold compared to expectations. Occupancy in Hindi and Regional Markets In the Hindi version, War 2 saw an overall occupancy of 16.74% nationwide. Morning shows opened at 11.71% occupancy, rising to 21.77% in the afternoon. Among cities, Jaipur topped with 32% occupancy, followed by Bengaluru at 27% and NCR at 23.5%. Mumbai (14.5%), Pune (13%), and Hyderabad (10%) registered moderate numbers, while Ahmedabad (9%) and Surat (6.5%) were lower. Chennai (17.5%) and Kolkata (18.5%) showed steadier turnout. The Telugu version had 15.30% overall occupancy, beginning at 14.15% in morning shows and climbing slightly to 16.44% later. The Tamil version showed similar results, with 16.44% morning occupancy and 17.08% in the afternoon. About War 2 War 2 is part of YRF's expanding Spy Universe, which also includes Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and Salman Khan's Tiger franchise. Alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the film stars Kiara Advani in a pivotal role. The film ends with a post-credits scene teasing the next instalment—Alpha—featuring Bobby Deol in a cameo to set up the story. Monsoon session: Govt to table bills for removal of PM, CMs, ministers if arrested on serious charges
Union home minister Amit Shah (File photo) NEW DELHI: The government will on Wednesday introduce three bills in Parliament to provide a legal framework for the removal of prime minister, a Union minister, chief minister, or a minister in a state/Union territory if they are arrested or detained on serious criminal charges. According to PTI, the proposed legislations are: Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025; Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025; and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Union home minister Amit Shah will also move a motion in the Lok Sabha to refer these bills to a joint committee of Parliament. Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025 The Government of Union Territories Act, 1963, currently has no provision for the removal of a chief minister or minister if arrested or detained for serious criminal charges. The proposed bill would amend Section 45 of the Act to address this gap. Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025 The Constitution lacks provisions for the removal of prime minister, Union ministers, chief ministers, or state/Delhi government ministers if arrested and detained on such charges. The bill seeks to amend Articles 75, 164, and 239AA to create this framework. Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025 The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, does not provide for the removal of the UT's chief minister or minister detained on serious criminal charges. The proposed bill would therefore amend Section 54 of the Act seeks to address this.
