Security beefed up in Himachal districts bordering Punjab amid India-Pakistan tensions
Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, security has been beefed up in Himachal Pradesh's districts bordering Punjab, including Hamirpur, Una and Bilaspur, police said on Thursday. Security has been stepped up at all border points with Punjab as a precautionary measure; vehicles entering the state are being checked, and teams have been deployed to keep a vigil on suspicious elements, Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal said.

Police patrolling on the premises of the temples and their surrounding areas have been intensified while devotees have been asked to remain alert, officials said.

Chhattisgarh has proposed ₹49,000 crore mega irrigation and hydropower projects in Bastar as anti-Naxal operations advance across Left-Wing Extremism-affected districts. About 45 years after the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal Award allocated 301 TMC of water from the Indravati River to Chhattisgarh (then part of Madhya Pradesh), the state has proposed two projects - construction of the Bodhghat dam and interlinking the Indravati and Mahanadi rivers. Despite being allocated 301 TMC of water from the Indravati, the state currently utilises only 25 TMC. The Bodhghat project proposes to use 96.27 TMC. Due to Naxal activity, no dam or related infrastructure could be implemented in Bastar. Of the 8.15 lakh hectares of crop area, irrigation facilities currently exist for only around 1.36 lakh hectares. With anti-Naxal operations now in full swing in Chhattisgarh, the state government has proposed construction of the ₹29,000 crore Bodhghat dam and the ₹20,000 crore interlinking project. According to sources, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week and urged that the two projects be granted "national status". This would ensure central funding. In a letter to the Prime Minister, reviewed by ET, Sai stated, "Given the high cost of the project, it is extremely difficult for the state to implement it with its own resources. Therefore, it is requested that these projects be declared as National Projects, so that their implementation can be ensured for the development of Bastar." In addition to irrigation, the Bodhghat multipurpose project is expected to generate 125 MW of electricity and produce 4,824 tonnes of fish annually. It will also supply water for drinking and industrial use. As per the state's proposal, 269 villages will benefit directly. However, there are significant challenges to implementation, including 10,440 hectares of land to be fully submerged, 28 villages to be entirely affected, and 14 to be partially affected. UP to open procurement centres,announce maize MSP soon: CM
Kanpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the govt will open procurement centres for maize and declare the minimum support price (MSP) for the crop soon. Addressing a gathering under 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' at Ajitmal in Auraiya, the CM accused the previous govts at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh of ignoring welfare of farmers. "For the first time in independent India, farmers became part of the central govt's political agenda in 2014 when Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister and several innovative schemes were introduced for their welfare," the CM said. Highlighting a change in agricultural patterns, he said that earlier the farmers in the state were limited to one or two crops, but maize emerged as a profitable third crop, cultivated on over five lakh hectares of land. "Farmers are now earning up to Rs 2.5 lakh per hectare. We assure farmers that we will soon open procurement centres and declare MSP for maize as well," the CM said. He said that under the BJP's double-engine govt, agricultural scientists and experts from Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) were sent from labs to the fields for the first time. "Back then, gangsters ruled, women and traders were unsafe, and recruitments were controlled by 'uncle and nephew'," he alleged. He said that the BJP govt recruited over 1.6 lakh teachers and asserted that hiring in various departments including PWD, irrigation and agriculture was done with complete transparency. "It's been a long time since Auraiya became a district. There was no police lines here, therefore, the facility is being constructed at a cost of Rs 272 crore. A bridge is being built over the Yamuna River for Rs 151 crore. A CM model composite school is also being constructed. Budgets have been allocated for agricultural science centre," he said. He said the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative connected two crore youths to self-employment, while 65 lakh youths secured employment through investments. Veterans raise welfare concerns
Bhubaneswar: All Odisha Veteran Soldiers Association convened a meeting on Sunday to highlight some of the pressing concerns faced by ex-servicemen, including limited employment opportunities. The association members also raised concerns over recent security threats against veterans, the need for an ex-servicemen corporation, and the long-proposed war martyr memorial in Kalinga Nagar, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. In a statement, the association said that as nations worldwide face military conflicts and citizens celebrate Operation Sindoor with parades and victory assemblies, a concerning disparity in the treatment of soldiers has come to light in Odisha. The association members stated that historical govt resolutions from 1963 guaranteed five acres of 'Jawan Reserved Land' to soldiers serving in war zones. However, this provision was revoked in 2014, with authorities citing land scarcity.
