South Asian-origin Brit named as man arrested at Disneyland Paris for mock wedding to 9-year-old
(Photo credit: Metropolitan Police) LONDON: A South Asian-origin British national called Jacky Jhaj has been named by UK media as the man arrested in Disneyland Paris last weekend for organising a mock wedding to a 9-year-old Ukrainian girl. Jaskarn, or Jacky Jhaj (39), was arrested last Saturday at the theme park when a 55-year-old actor who had been paid €12,000 to play the role of the father of the bride contacted police when he realised the bride was a child and she turned up looking 'scared and confused'. Jhaj is a convicted paedophile in Britain. He was jailed in 2016 for sexual activity with two 15-year-old girls and placed on the UK sex offenders register. Around 100 children and 200 adults had been paid to take part in the fake ceremony at the Sleeping Beauty castle. The mock wedding was to feature violinists, a cake, and chairs were laid out. TOI understands the plan was to create a video for social media. Jhaj had hired Disneyland Paris for several hours before it opened for the stunt, costing £110,000, allegedly using fake Latvian ID. He was going to play the role of groom to the child bride who could not walk in her bridal dress and heels and had to be carried. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like กำลังเทรดสกุลเงิน THB หรือ USD อยู่หรือเปล่า? Jhaj appeared in front of a judge in Meaux, north-east Paris, on June 23 and was charged with fraud, breach of trust, money laundering, and identity theft. He remains in custody. He is a serial prankster behind scores of similar weird stunts. He hired hundreds of teenagers and children, some as young as six, to act as his fawning fans at a fake red carpet film premiere in Leicester Square in 2023 at which he pretended to be a film star, and last year he organised a fake funeral at London Oratory with a horse-drawn carriage and empty coffin, hiring extras as mourners. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: 'A 39-year-old man is wanted by the Met Police for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a breach of a Sex Offenders' Register notification requirement. We are aware the man has been arrested in France for other matters and officers are in contact with the French authorities.'

Cops carry out chariot pulling rehearsal in Puri
1 2 Bhubaneswar: With Rath Yatra just one day away, Odisha police on Wednesday carried out a rehearsal in Puri to train personnel in chariot pulling procedures. Adequate security arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of Nabajouban Darshan ceremony on Thursday. The practice session involved three jeeps serving as substitute chariots, which police personnel pulled. Officers received detailed instructions about their specific duties for ensuring a smooth chariot pulling ceremony. From the total 205 police platoons assigned for the Rath Yatra, 72 platoons will specifically oversee chariot pulling. "Our priorities include maintaining clear pathways for chariots and establishing security cordons to regulate devotee movement near the chariots," said SP (Puri) Vinit Agrawal. Officers received strict instructions to maintain vigilance to prevent accidents. On a few previous celebrations, police officers, servitors and devotees who fell while pulling the chariots have been injured. "Foolproof crowd control and stampede prevention measures have been taken to ensure that the chariots are pulled without any untoward incidents," said Agrawal. After remaining out of bounds for devotees for a fortnight, sibling gods Jagannath, Balabhadra and goddess Subhadra are all set to grant darshan to countless devotees on the occasion of Nabajouban Darshan on Thursday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Nabajouban Darshan is an essential ceremony preceding Rath Yatra. The Nabajouban Darshan holds particular importance as the deities have recovered from their symbolic ailment after their ceremonial bath during Debasnan Purnima on June 11. Following tradition, the deities will present themselves to visitors in their renewed form inside the sanctum sanctorum on Thursday and on chariots on Friday. Temple authorities said herbal paint was applied on the faces of the deities. "Similar to humans preparing for significant occasions, the deities receive special preparation before Rath Yatra. The makeup is essential as the sibling deities' faces became pale during their 15-day treatment," explained Sanjay Kumar Duttamohapatra, a servitor. Anticipating large crowds, police have put in place necessary arrangements. "We will organise devotees in queues for temple entry. Our officers will provide all required support to visitors," said the SP.

BJD, Cong stir against ‘rise' in crimes against women; BJP hits back
Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJD and Congress on Wednesday staged separate demonstrations, protesting against alleged rise in crimes against women. Members of Youth Congress attempted to gherao chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi's residence, leading to a scuffle with police. When cops stopped the Congress members on the AG Square-Raj Bhavan route, preventing their approach towards the CM's residence, the protesters hurled eggs and tomatoes. "Law and order has collapsed in the state. The recent Gopalpur beach and Keonjhar gang rapes, and inhumane assault on two dalits in Ganjam speak volumes of the state's lawlessness. We demand the chief minister's resignation," said Ranjit Patra, president of Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress (OPYC). The party's national functionaries, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, earlier took to social media, slamming the state govt over the recent gang rape and dalit assault cases.
