Chiefs' Marquise Brown Opens Up On Last Season's Struggles
Chiefs' Marquise Brown Opens Up On Last Season's Struggles originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The 2024 season was supposed to be Marquise Brown's bounce-back year with the Kansas City Chiefs, but the football gods had other ideas.

After going through all of preseason, Brown, on the first play of Kansas City's preseason game, injured his shoulder, which required surgery and ruled him out until Week 16.
And when Brown did return, he posted 91 yards from nine receptions in two regular-season games, before five receptions and 50 yards in three playoff games.
So it wasn't what "Hollywood" had in mind, but did his output bother him?
"No, because I really leaned into my faith, I wasn't coming back expecting anything," Brown said. "I was coming back just trying to help whichever way I could, that was my mindset. It helped carry me through the end of last year. I was just really grateful that I had the opportunity to come back."

Brown was signed last offseason to help Patrick Mahomes get his deep ball back, but when you are out for nearly all of the regular season, things don't just click straight away, and the Chiefs found that out.

But now, Brown, again, has been involved in the offseason workouts as minicamp continues; however, he's been here before, and while it isn't known if he will participate in any preseason games, the receiver is looking to hit the ground running in 2025.
Injury stole most of his 2024 season, and Brown is now ready to put that in the past and develop into a consistent weapon for Mahomed and Andy Reid.

Recently retired Pro Bowl LT is so glad he never has to block Jared Verse again
Recently retired Pro Bowl LT is so glad he never has to block Jared Verse again Terron Armstead guarantees Verse will win Defensive Player of the Year someday: 'Mark my words' Recently retired @T_Armstead72 listed the current pass rushers in the game that made his decision to retire a lot easier 📻 | @RobertJTurbin — SiriusXM NFL Radio (@SiriusXMNFL) June 17, 2025 Jared Verse is the type of pass rusher who gives opposing linemen nightmares. Just ask Terron Armstead, a five-time Pro Bowl left tackle who recently retired from the NFL after 12 seasons. Armstead only faced Verse once in his career, a Week 10 bout between the Rams and Dolphins last season, but he's glad he never has to block the Defensive Rookie of the Year again. It's one of the highest compliments an offensive lineman can pay a defender, and it's clear Verse left a lasting impression on Armstead in their one battle. In a recent interview on The SiriusXM Blitz, Armstead mentioned Verse first when asked which pass rusher made his decision to retire easier. 'No. 1, he was a rookie from the Rams. That young boy Jared Verse? I'm cool. I'm good. I never got to see that man again. I'm OK with never seeing that young man again in my life,' Armstead said. Verse is only 24 but he's already one of the most powerful edge rushers in the game. Armstead got a firsthand look at Verse's bull rush last season and he says it's unlike others he faced in his career. Even after going up against Verse just once, Armstead guarantees Jared will win Defensive Player of the Year someday. 'Bull rush is different. Dog, it's different,' Armstead said. 'You know that it's coming, you brace yourself. He's different. Jared Verse is different. He will be a Defensive Player of the Year one of these days. Mark my words.' In the Rams' loss to the Dolphins last season, Verse had five pressures, a strip-sack and recovery, as well as three total stops, according to Pro Football Focus. His 89.7 overall grade was his highest in any game, so he sure did show out against Armstead and Miami's linemen. The strip-sack didn't come against Armstead but it was an impressive play, no less. The rookie Jared Verse gets the strip sack AND recovery for the @RamsNFL! 📺: #MIAvsLAR on ESPN/ABC 📱: Stream on #NFLPlus and ESPN+ — NFL (@NFL) November 12, 2024 In addition to Verse, the other pass rushers Armstead is glad he never has to see again are Myles Garrett, Trey Hendrickson and Maxx Crosby. That puts into perspective the class Verse is in as a defender already, ranking among the best edge rushers in football after just one season. It shouldn't be long before Verse turns his Defensive Rookie of the Year award into Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Bucky wins competitive wiener dog derby. His training was playing fetch.
When Adriana Smith brought her dachshund Bucky to the seventh annual Meadowlands Racetrack Wiener Dog Derby, she wasn't expecting much. Last year he didn't even finish the race. 'He got lost,' Smith said. 'He had no idea where he was going.' But, to Smith's shock, Bucky had laserlike focus this year. He didn't get lost. Egged on by the roaring crowd of thousands, Bucky's tiny legs carried him over the finish line ahead of the other sausage dogs. He had outrun 79 other wieners to clinch the championship.

Chiefs DT Chris Jones will use Super Bowl loss as motivation: 'We could have done better'
During his press conference on Tuesday, Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones discussed his motivations for the 2025 season. "We got a lot of new guys coming in, especially dealing with a loss in the Super Bowl. So you know, I wanted to get right back in it," said Jones. "I mean, you use a lot of things as a motivation, especially this past season, but you know, the biggest motivation, making it to the big game, losing, and not only losing, losing the way we did. I think a lot of people in the building feel like we could have done better. We feel like we're better. And, you know, getting back to the mountain top." Jones had been present throughout the voluntary offseason workouts. The veterans are focused early on making amends for the Super Bowl LIX disappointment. During the 2024 season, Jones earned his third consecutive first-team All-Pro selection and sixth straight Pro Bowl invitation. He finished the 2024 regular season with five sacks and 37 tackles in 15 games.
