As more slum dwellers told to move, Delhi CM assures justice
'Whenever slums need to be removed for any reason, arrangements are being made to provide houses to the eligible residents…,' she said at the 'Faatak wali jhuggi' near the railway crossing in Shalimar Bagh on Sunday morning.
The Railways has issued a notice for the removal of the sum cluster, citing that it is located on railway land needed for the expansion of the Azadpur railway station.
'You will get complete justice. The Delhi government is fully committed to this,' Gupta told the slum dwellers.
'When a crisis came upon you, I came to meet you because the Delhi government is not in favour of removing slums without reason… If slums have to be removed for development projects or other legitimate reasons, the government will ensure proper rehabilitation for the eligible residents so they too can become part of Delhi's growth story,' she added.
This comes amid the recent demolition of unauthorised slums at Madrasi Camp, Bhoomiheen Camp, Jailerwala Bagh Camp and Taimoor Nagar in the Capital.
Taking on AAP and Congress, Gupta said that in the last 40 years, no development has taken place in Delhi's slums.
'These parties have only seen slum dwellers as voters and constantly tried to exploit them, while also damaging the city's geographical character,' she said.
The AAP, meanwhile, said in a statement, 'The CM has been constantly lying on this issue. First, on completion of 100 days of her government, she claimed no jhuggi will be demolished. And on the very next day, hundreds of jhuggis were demolished at Madrasi Camp. Later, thousands of people have to rendered homeless at Jailerwala Bagh, Bawana, Moti Nagar, Kalkaji etc.'
'We challenge Rekha Gupta to publish the list of jhuggis that have been demolished and names of people who have been given flats by them. They are trying to fool the people by giving flats to just a few of them and making others homeless,' the party added.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, too, said on Sunday that hundreds of slum dwellers in Delhi are going through the pain of being rendered homeless with their houses being destroyed by the BJP government, as he claimed that this 'atrocity' exposes the ruling party's 'insensitivity' towards the poor and its 'arrogance of power'.
The leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha shared a video of his recent visit to Delhi's Ashok Vihar area where houses of several people were brought down by the administration.
The small houses in which they had settled their entire life were 'ruthlessly destroyed' by the BJP government, he alleged in his post in Hindi on X along with the video.

Congress to stage protest outside Assembly against slum demolitions
The Congress's Delhi unit on Sunday said it will stage a protest outside the Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon Session on Monday, primarily against the demolition drives carried out in slum clusters across the city. The party said it will raise other issues such as the 'deteriorating law and order' situation, the 'false promise' of ₹2,500 per month to the women, and waterlogging. It will also protest against the school education Bill for being 'anti-parent and anti-education'. He [Rahul Gandhi] urged the Delhi government to clarify its intentions towards the slum dwellers, instead of playing with the lives of the poor people,' Mr. Yadav said. Alleging that the Arvind Kejriwal government has locked thousands of flats constructed by the Congress under the Rajiv Rattan Housing Scheme, aimed at providing better living conditions for the poor, for 11 years, Mr. Yadav said, 'Those houses should be repaired and allotted soon to the residents of slums.' Meanwhile, on Saturday, Ms. Gupta inspected government flats built for economically weaker sections (EWS) in 2011 in Sultanpuri, which are in a dilapidated condition. She said that the government is working to meet the demand for one million houses.

BJP criticises NCP-SCP over Jitendra Awhad's controversial remarks on Sanatan Dharma
New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today criticised Nationalist Congress Party–Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SCP) leader Jitendra Awhad over his remarks describing Sanatan Dharma as having 'destroyed India.' Such comments attack the very fabric of Indian civilisation, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said at a press conference here, and questioned whether such a position reflected the official stance of the NCP-SCP. Patra commented, 'We are a tolerant society, and that is precisely why we are expressing our protest through a press conference. Had such a statement been made about Islam and Muslims, the response would not have been as restrained.' Patra also directed pointed questions at NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar and party MP Supriya Sule, asking whether Awhad's controversial remarks represented the party's official ideology or were merely his personal views. 'He has spoken against the core values of India. I would like to ask Sharad Pawar and his daughter, Supriya Sule, if they endorse this statement,' he said. Patra further observed, 'nowhere else in the world do we see a situation where the majority population is openly accused and then simultaneously labelled as intolerant.' 'There was never any religion called Sanatan Dharma. We are followers of Hindu Dharma. This so-called Sanatan Dharma denied Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj his coronation and defamed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Its followers attempted to assassinate Jyotirao Phule and humiliated Savitribai Phule,' he said. The BJP leader also referred to Dr. BR Ambedkar's criticism of the Manusmriti and the caste-based oppression allegedly embedded in Sanatan Dharma. 'It was this same tradition that denied Ambedkar the right to education and even access to water. It was Babasaheb who rose against Sanatan Dharma, burned the Manusmriti, and rejected its oppressive traditions,' Awhad said. Family cries foul as Bengali migrant ‘falls to death' in Ggn
Malda: A Malda resident who worked in a Gurgaon high-rise as a sweeper, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Friday. Md Shahensha was supposed to return home on Sunday, his family said, due to the harassment Bengali migrants are facing in BJP-governed states. Instead, it was the 42-year-old's body that reached Malda on Sunday evening.
