BTS stars Jimin and Jungkook discharged from military service as K-pop group's reunion nears

CNAa day ago

K-pop superstars Jimin and Jungkook are the latest members of BTS to be discharged from South Korea's mandatory military service.
The pair wore their military uniforms Wednesday (Jun 11), saluted and addressed fans who had assembled to see the pair after their discharge.
Jungkook thanked the journalists and fans who travelled to see him and Jimin after their discharge and acknowledged how different it was to be back in the spotlight. 'Actually, it's been so long since I've been in front of cameras, and I didn't even put on makeup, so I'm a bit embarrassed,' he said. 'I don't know what to say.'
They enlisted in December 2023, one day after RM and V did the same. The latter were discharged on Tuesday. They saluted upon their release Tuesday in Chuncheon City as about 200 fans, some of whom travelled from Mexico, Turkey and Brazil, cheered.
V thanked fans Tuesday for their patience in waiting for him and RM's return and teased the band's reunion. "If you can just wait a little bit longer, we will return with a really amazing performance.'
The seven singers of the popular K-pop band plan to reunite as a group sometime in 2025 after they finish their service.
Six of the group's seven members served in the army, while Suga is fulfilling his duty as a social service agent, an alternative form of military service. He will be discharged later this month.
Jin, the oldest member of K-pop supergroup BTS, was discharged in June 2024. J-Hope was discharged in October.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 are required by law to perform 18 to 21 months of military service under a conscription system meant to deter aggression from rival North Korea.
The law gives special exemptions to athletes, classical and traditional musicians, and ballet and other dancers if they have obtained top prizes in certain competitions and are assessed to have enhanced national prestige. K-pop stars and other entertainers aren't subject to such privileges.
However, in 2020, BTS postponed their service until age 30 after South Korea's National Assembly revised its Military Service Act, allowing K-pop stars to delay their enlistment until age 30.
There was heated public debate in 2022 over whether to offer special exemptions of mandatory military service for BTS members, until the group's management agency announced in October 2022 that all seven members would fulfill their duties.

Stars harassed: Jungkook's house almost broken into by woman, chauffeur sells Orm's personal info to fans, Entertainment News

While life in the spotlight may beget attention, there are some boundaries that shouldn't be breached. According to South Korean media reports, a Chinese woman in her 30s was caught attempting to break into Jungkook's home at 11.20pm (10.20pm SGT) last night (June 11). The woman was found repeatedly attempting to key in the door access code to the 27-year-old BTS star's apartment in Yongsan District, Seoul. A local resident called the police after noticing her suspicious behaviour. It was reported that the woman told officers she had travelled to South Korea to see Jungkook upon his military discharge. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances of the incident. Jungkook completed his mandatory military service yesterday morning, having enlisted alongside fellow member Jimin in the 5th Infantry Division Artillery Brigade in December 2023. Mastermind was closer than she imagined Thai actress Kornnaphat Sethratanapong, also called Orm, has been a victim of obsessive fans for a while. Earlier this January, her agency Channel 3 issued a statement confirming that people had been stalking the 23-year-old to private locations, posing a risk to her safety. The harassment persisted and it was discovered recently that her chauffeur had a part to play in the crime. According to a report by Bangkok Post yesterday, Orm's chauffeur accepted money from fans in exchange for information about her whereabouts and personal schedule. The fans would follow and stalk her to her home, taking pictures of her car and license plates as well. Orm uncovered her chauffeur's involvement when she was helping him use the GPS on a new phone, which led to her discovering chat messages on Line that revealed a stalking network. He claimed that his actions were done out of concern for Orm, which her family shot down as an excuse. [[nid:715233]] In a group chat, the involved fans exchanged information and coordinated their stalking activities, including going to Orm's home and trying to reach out to her mother. Some even booked plane tickets to sit near Orm on long flights. Five fans were reportedly arrested, with more to be apprehended as there is a larger group of stalkers including both Thai and foreign nationals. Orm's chauffeur has since been fired and legal action will be pursued. Orm is known for starring in the Thai girls' love series The Secret of Us (2024), alongside Thai-Hong Kong actress Sirilak "Lingling" Kwong. The duo will be holding their first fanmeet Ling & Orm in Singapore on June 14 at the Arena @ Expo. [[nid:718983]]

Taiwanese singer Christine Fan sorry she gave a bad performance on Chinese singing show: 'I really lost control'

After keeping a relatively low profile following her husband Blackie Chen's #MeToo scandal in 2023, Taiwanese singer Christine Fan made a surprising return to the spotlight by appearing on the Chinese singing show, Singer 2025 on Jun 6. The 49-year-old joined the show after the elimination of singer Terry Lin. Dressed in a glittery gold gown, Fan performed her own hit The First Dream, immediately sounding shaky and pitchy. In fact, sharp-eyed netizens noticed that she looked visibly affected by how she sounded during the performance. Following the performance, a visibly emotional Fan was seen crying backstage as a host was spotted comforting her as she tearfully apologised saying, 'I'm sorry. I really lost control." Unsurprisingly, Fan was eliminated from the show that same night. While her studio audience score wasn't the lowest, the lack of online support sealed her fate as Singer 2025 tallies votes from both in-person audiences and internet users. Clips of her pitchy singing quickly went viral, appearing on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo's hot search list. Later that night, Fan posted a video on Weibo, saying: 'It's my first time participating on such a programme and I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous'. She then thanked everyone for listening to her sing and promised that she will continue to work hard despite the setback. Fan also posted pictures of her performance on Weibo on Jun 7. "I am so lucky to be on Singer 2025. I am really grateful and satisfied," she said, adding that she had not participated in a TV show like this for many years. "Although I did not perform well, I am very disappointed with myself. I feel that I have failed everyone's expectations. I feel really sorry I let everyone down." She added: "But I think that life does not need to shine every day, as long as you firmly move forward towards your original dream and continue to walk on the shining road, that's enough!" Fan also thanked the team behind Singer 2025, as well as her colleagues, friends and family whom she said cheered her up and took care of her on and off the stage.
