Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos vs. Chidi Njokuani UFC Fight Night 254 preview
Dos Santos (25-8-1 MMA, 11-4-1 UFC) will look to keep the positive momentum going after returning to the win column in his last outing. In November, dos Santos made quick work of Zach Scroggin, ending the fight in just 75 seconds. The 38-year-old Brazilian has finished five of his 16 UFC bouts. … Njokuani (24-10 MMA, 4-3 UFC) aims to make it three wins in a row. Last March, the 36-year-old stopped a three-fight skid by winning a split decision over Rhys McKee. Njokuani followed that up with a unanimous nod against Jared Gordon in October.
Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos vs. Chidi Njokuani UFC Fight Night 254 expert pick, prediction
The co-main event in Las Vegas features a potential welterweight war between dos Santos and Njokuani.
Although it's fun to imagine the possibilities between the muay Thai and capoeira that's advertised at first glance, I suspect we're in for a gritty and grimy affair.
Aside from the fact that Njoakuani prefers closed-quarter combat in the form of clinches and collar ties, dos Santos quietly carries a Brazilain jiu-jitsu black belt that he's attempted to dust off in stylistic matchups such as this one.
As seen in his fights with Curtis Millender and Randy Brown, dos Santos – who is a potent pocket puncher – will happily look for takedowns and transition to the back is the opportunity becomes available. Add in the fact that we're in the smaller octagon, and I believe that Njokauni will be inherently wired to give dos Santos the exact kind of fight he wants.
The pick is dos Santos by submission in Round 2.

'Rampage' Jackson reacts to Elijah Smith recreating iconic slam KO at UFC on ESPN 72

Quinton Jackson was, like many, in awe of Elijah Smith's incredible slam knockout at UFC on ESPN 72. Smith (9-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC)) delivered arguably the greatest slam finish in UFC history Saturday when he attempted to put Toshiomi Kazama (11-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) through the mat in the opening round of their bantamweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The way Smith hoisted Kazama out of a triangle choke position and into the air, put his arm across the face then slammed him into the mat before landing a couple vicious and unnecessary shots looked eerily similar to a famous finish from former UFC light heavyweight champion "Rampage" Jackson. Jackson produced arguably the most famous slam finish in MMA history under the now-defunct PRIDE FC banner in June 2004. A nearly identical sequence occurred in his "Critical Countdown 2004" matchup with Ricardo Arona in a highlight that has been played endlessly since. Many have tried to mimic "Rampage" throughout the years, but nothing has came as close as what Smith pulled off, and the man himself could only give praise to what the 22-year-old prospect pulled off (via Instagram): The respect between Jackson and Smith was mutual in the aftermath of his knockout win. Smith said he watched the Arona win many times over the years, and tipped his cap to the UFC legend after the viral result. Anthony Hernandez wants title shot after UFC on ESPN 72 submission win over Roman Dolidze

Anthony Hernandez wants his shot at UFC gold. LAS VEGAS – Anthony Hernandez wants his shot at the UFC middleweight title. Hernandez (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) made sure to make his intentions clear following his latest win at UFC on ESPN 72 Saturday at the UFC Apex. Hernandez dominated Roman Dolidze (15-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) for more than 15 minutes before submitting him in the fourth round in the main event. In a post-fight interview in the cage, he shot his shot. "Man, I want a title shot," Hernandez said. "What the f*ck do I have to do?" Speaking with the media backstage, Hernandez doubled down on his intention to be next for the title shot. However, with several top contenders surging at 185 pounds, Hernandez was asked if he had a name in mind should he not get the winner of next week's UFC 319 title bout between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev. "When I say I don't give a f*ck who I fight, I'm serious about that sh*t," Hernandez said. "I don't give a f*ck who I fight. I think it would be cool if there was a contender BMF belt or something like that, but I want the f*cking title. That's the only reason I do this sh*t for: To get that money and change my family's life." Hernandez is now on an eight-fight winning streak and hasn't lost a fight since 2020. The eight-fight run includes six finishes and four $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses. Despite the impressive streak, "Fluffy" said he disappointed fans in his previous bout with Brendan Allen, but thinks he redeemed himself with the win over Dolidze. "The f*cking Brendan Allen fight, I came in injured and f*cking sick, and I had a hard weight cut," Hernandez said. "Everything went wrong in that fight and I still went out there and beat him. I wasn't happy with my performance. I still won, yeah, but that wasn't me. I wanted to come out tonight and show people I can do everything. I can walk people down. I can shut people down. I don't care how dangerous you say you are: I'm going to walk you down and beat the f*ck out of you. I don't care who you are."
