Int'l Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition kicks off in Malaysia's Langkawi
Organized biennially, the exhibition features 860 exhibitors representing various sectors in maritime and aerospace. They will be joined by 140 delegates from 46 countries and regions, including heads of military, enforcement agencies and other government officials, according to the organizer.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and members of his cabinet, including both deputy ministers Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Fadillah Yusof, and Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, witnessed the opening ceremony, which featured an aerial demonstration by aircraft of the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
According to Khaled, among this edition's highlights are two aerobatic teams from Indonesia and Russia, who will showcase their skills at aerial maneuvers as part of the event.
Additionally, some 43 fighter jets and other aircraft from the participating countries will perform aerial displays at the Langkawi International Airport, while 31 warships and maritime assets, including 12 vessels from several participating nations, will be on display.
In a speech at the opening ceremony late on Monday, Anwar said the exhibition reflects the Malaysia's commitment to defense preparedness, regional peace, and strategic collaboration amid rapidly evolving global security challenges.
Anwar added that the exhibition is not just about military displays, it's about building partnerships, supporting local industries, and keeping pace with innovation for national and regional security.
For his part, Khaled said this year's edition would feature a strong emphasis on innovation and the development of indigenous defense technologies, with several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to be signed during the event.
"These MoUs include plans to initiate defense satellite development programs, integrate artificial intelligence into defense applications, and establish a national center of excellence in aviation," he told a press briefing.

IPOH: Up to RM5bil in assets and funds have been recovered from corruption cases in the past one year, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said these were recovered from cases involving ministries, government agencies and politicians. "There are taunts and criticisms towards the government's hard stance on fighting corruption. "Over the past one year, we have recovered RM4bil to RM5bil in assets and funds seized from corruption cases, across ministries, departments, Immigration, Customs and even politicians," he said in his speech during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ipoh Sentral project near the Ipoh Railway Station here on Saturday (Aug 16). "This was due to our willingness to take action to clean up governance," he added. He said designs should not just be copied from other countries and to take into consideration its suitability in the local environment. "We see in Washington DC, there are impressive buildings but it is culturally barren. "As we progress, we often celup (copy) ideas from others but these can feel foreign," he said, adding that weather and culture could be aspects to be considered into the design. "We need special landmarks with cultural vibrancy, modern and are different from the usual scenes of a concrete jungle in a major city that we can be proud of," he added. He said that developments and projects must also benefit the people. "They need to be able to fulfil the current needs of the people," he added.

Logistics sector is nation's backbone, says Loke
PORT KLANG: It is crucial for everyone to join forces to uphold the nation's logistics sector, which is the backbone of the economy, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke. "Without the logistics sector, trade cannot take place and the economy will be crippled as imports and exports can't be carried out," he said in his short speech at the Kibarkan Jalur Gemilang Komuniti Pelabuhan Klang event in conjunction with National Day on Aug 31 held at the Port Klang Authority Social and Recreational club. Loke said it is the mission of the logistics industry community to ensure Port Klang, currently one of the top ten busiest ports globally, continues to grow and prosper the nation's economy. He said the Port Klang community will continue to enjoy the economic benefits from the various developmental projects initiated there. "Currently, we are planning to ensure the development of Carey Island as the third port can be implemented soon," he said. On a separate matter, Loke said the recent incidents where the Jalur Gemilang was flown upside down must not make people lose focus of the fact that the Jalur Gemilang belongs to the people. Loke said that the flag is also the unifying symbol for all Malaysians regardless of race, religion or political affiliation. "Although there have been several recent incidents involving the Jalur Gemilang, we must not lose sight of the fact that the Jalur Gemilang is our common flag. "National Day should unite Malaysians and remind us that love for the country must be part of our character and daily lives," said Loke. Recently, two incidents of the Jalur Gemilang being displayed upside down courted controversy with Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh initiating a protest over the matter. The Malaysian flag was first accidentally flown upside down at a primary school in Port Dickson and then at a shop in Kepala Batas, Penang.

Aid distributed by Madani government regardless of political background
LARUT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that federal aid is distributed regardless of political affiliation, assuring that states not led by the Madani government will not be sidelined. Citing Kelantan and Kedah as examples, Anwar said billions of ringgit in development allocations have been approved for both states. In Kedah, he said RM1 billion in assistance was channelled to padi farmers, while more than RM4 billion in development allocations was given to Kelantan, particularly for flood mitigation and coastal conservation efforts. "In Kelantan, we gave more not because of preference, but because the state faces major flood problems, for which we have allocated billions of ringgit. "On top of that, its padi yield is the lowest in the country, which means we must help in terms of infrastructure. "Last month, I checked on several projects in Kedah, which is not governed by the federal ruling party, and RM1 billion was allocated to assist padi farmers, even though many of them are opposition supporters. "But I said that as prime minister, I must help the people... I want to send a message to the public that when one becomes a leader, this trust given by God is not meant to benefit ourselves alone," he said. He said this when speaking at the Madani Dairy Entrepreneurs' Carnival in Pondok Tanjung, Batu Kurau today. Anwar said there was no benefit in people quarrelling, especially over racial issues by hurling insults and belittling other communities or individuals, including by exploiting cases currently under public spotlight. "Do not fight over flags, or over the death of a child, and then insult everyone, saying he was a VIP's child, a TYT's grandchild. "I said let the investigation be carried out, I have already made it clear that I do not care who is involved," he said.
