Why Garrett Nussmeier, Whit Weeks sat out, were limited during LSU football practice
Junior linebacker Whit Weeks did not participate in the Tigers' 14th practice Friday morning. Senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was limited in drills and overall work, as well. Media members were able to view LSU's entire session and Weeks spent a large portion of practice off to the side on the exercise bike.
LSU football coach Brian Kelly said that players like Weeks and Nussmeier were on "off days" as the staff is managing their workload this preseason.

"Whit Weeks, we're not going to have him practice five days in a row until we get into game week," LSU head football coach Brian Kelly said. "He'll be back out there tomorrow, he'll scrimmage tomorrow.
"With Nuss, it's more about managing his throws. He made a number of throws where we give him some time to back off. He'll be back out tomorrow, full go, scrimmaging. Again, it's just maintenance on some of these guys."
Nussmeier re-aggravated a pre-existing condition with patellar tendonitis in his left knee last week from a procedure he had done back in 2023.
Weeks is coming off a dislocated ankle injury in the Texas Bowl last December. He missed all of spring drills while and going through rehab and was fully cleared by the start of the Tigers' summer conditioning program at the beginning of June.
Friday was Weeks' first missed practice of the fall. Early in the preseason, he was limited the first few days as the staff was just being cautious with him.
Wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. and safety Jardin Gilbert missed practice due to graduation.
