Indira Gandhi attacked Golden Temple in collaboration with the British, claims BJP MP Nishikant Dubey

Time of India3 days ago
Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey on Monday accused former Prime Minister
Indira Gandhi
of attacking the
Golden Temple
in Amritsar in collaboration with Britain and alleged that the Congress party has used the Sikh community for political gain.
In a post on X, Dubey shared a letter written by the then Private Secretary to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Brian Fall, to the then Private Secretary to the Home Secretary, Hugh Taylor. He used this to support his claim that British army officers were present in Amritsar at the time of
Operation Blue Star
in 1984.
"In 1984, Indira Gandhi launched an attack on the Golden Temple in collaboration with Britain, with British army officers present in Amritsar at that time. For Congress, the Sikh community is merely a toy," Dubey wrote.
He further alleged that Kartarpur Sahib was handed over to
Pakistan
through an agreement signed in 1960 by Sardar Swaran Singh.
"1. Pakistan was finally given Kartarpur Sahib in 1960 through an agreement made by Sardar Swaran Singh," the BJP MP wrote.
Live Events
Dubey also claimed that prominent Sikh leaders were elevated to high offices to mask the events of 1984 and shield Congress leaders accused of involvement in the anti-Sikh riots.
"2. During the 1984 attack on the Golden Temple and the killing of innocent devotees, GiZail Singh was made President. 3. To cover up the 1984 massacre of Sikhs and to protect senior leaders H.K.L. Bhagat, Jagdish Tytler, and Sajjan Kumar, Manmohan Singh was made a puppet Prime Minister in 2004. The story of selling out the country and surrendering before foreigners continues," the X post read.
These comments come a day after Dubey's earlier post on Sunday, in which he accused the Congress government of giving away 80 per cent of India's share of Indus River water and the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara to Pakistan in 1960.
"Do you know that in exchange for Pakistan's blood, we gave 80 per cent of our water in the Indus Water Treaty in 1960, and in that same 1960, another agreement took place between Sardar Swaran Singh Ji and Pakistan's Home Minister K.M. Sheikh on January 11, 1960?" Dubey posted.
He questioned the legitimacy of the agreement and accused the then-leadership of surrendering national interests.
"1. Look at the politics--Sardar Swaran Singh Ji was neither the Home Minister nor the Foreign Minister, yet he was making the agreement? 2. Because in that agreement, we gave away our religious centre, Kartarpur Sahib?" the X post read.
He further accused former
Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru
of giving away parts of land in
Punjab
and favouring Pakistan.
"3. We gave away Sarja Majra, Rakh Hardit Singh, and Pathanke in the Lahore-Amritsar region. 4. We donated some parts of Punjab's Firozpur district. 5. We gave away the areas of Sulemank and Chak Ladke. They announced this in Parliament as if it were the personal property of Nehru Ji or the Gandhi family. Under the Constitution, this is illegal, but this history of Pakistan favouritism is a shameful and deplorable example of political mentality," the BJP MP claimed.

Congress takes swipe at PM Modi after he returns from five-nation visit

The Congress on Thursday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he returned home from his five-nation visit, saying that now that he is back, he could find time to visit Manipur, review why the Pahalgam terrorists are yet to be brought to justice and reflect on infrastructure collapses in his home state. The opposition party also said the PM could also, for a change, chair an all-party meeting to firm up the agenda for the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. Prime Minister Modi returned to India this morning after his visit to five nations -Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia. During the trip, Modi also attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said, "India welcomes back its Super Premium Frequent Flier PM who is expected to be in the country for perhaps three weeks before jetting around again." "Now that he is here, he could find the time to visit Manipur where the people have been awaiting him for more than two years; review why the Pahalgam terrorists have yet to be brought to justice; reflect on infrastructure collapses in his home state; and sanction assistance to Himachal Pradesh that has been devastated by floods," Ramesh said. The prime minister could also devote his attention to the reform of GST to stimulate mass consumption and also take steps to boost private investment by companies other than a few and favoured big business groups, the Congress leader said. "He could also, for a change, chair an all-party meeting to firm up the agenda for the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament," Ramesh said. The Monsoon session of Parliament begins on July 21. Last week, Modi embarked on the five-nation tour beginning with Ghana. He then travelled to Trinidad and Tobago on a two-day visit from July 3 to 4. In the third leg of his visit, Modi visited Argentina from July 4 to 5. In the fourth leg of his visit, Modi travelled to Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The prime minister visited Brazil from July 5 to 8 and attended the 17th BRICS Summit followed by a state visit. Modi then visited Namibia before his return to India. 'Won't accept tutelage': Brazil's Lula hits back at Trump, warns of reciprocity levies after 50% US tariff

Brazilian President Lula De Silva slammed US President Donald Trump after the latter announced 50% tariffs on Brazilian goods. The two nations have been at odds over the trial of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. read more Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva slammed his US counterpart, Donald Trump, as he pledged to impose reciprocal tariffs on American goods. Lula made the remarks hours after Trump slapped the Latin American nation with 50 per cent of trade tariffs. A diplomatic row between the two nations started to brew after Trump condemned the prosecution of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. 'Any measure to unilaterally raise tariffs will be responded to in accordance with Brazil's Economic Reciprocity Law,' Lula's office said in a statement. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Brazilian president went on to reject Trump's demand that the legal proceedings against Bolsonaro be dropped. In his statement, Lula also rejected Trump's argument that 50 per cent tariffs on Brazilian goods are necessary to close the deficit. Lula emphasised that such a deficit does not exist. US vs Brazil: A new trade war ensues In his statement, Lula noted that the sovereignty of Brazil should not be challenged. 'Brazil is a sovereign nation with independent institutions and will not accept any form of tutelage,' Lula began. He emphasised that the case against Bolsonaro falls, 'exclusively under the jurisdiction of Brazil's Judicial Branch and, as such, are not subject to any interference or threats that could compromise the independence of national institutions'. The Brazilian president, who was a former trade unionist, went on to correct Trump's claim that the US run a trade deficit with Brazil. 'Statistics from the U.S. government itself show a surplus of $410 billion in the trade of goods and services with Brazil over the past 15 years,' Lula noted. It is pertinent to note that Brazil passed the Economic Reciprocity Law back in April. The country wrote the law specifically to prepare for the possibility of Trump imposing tariffs on the biggest economy in Latin America. The law in question authorises the legislative branch, in coordination with businesses, to 'adopt countermeasures in the form of restrictions to the importation of goods and services or measures to suspend concessions in the areas of trade, investments, and obligations related to intellectual property rights, as well as measures to suspend other obligations foreseen in any of the country's trade agreements'. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Threats from Trump came days after he called the BRICS, a group of emerging economies founded in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, ' an anti-American body', which he intends to demolish through tariffs. Lula was asked for his response at a BRICS summit in Rio. 'The world has changed. We don't want an emperor,' he said. 'If he thinks he can impose tariffs, other countries have the right to impose tariffs too,' the Brazilian leader averred.
