People are looking for the BJP: NV Subhash slams Mamata Banerjee's regime
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] June 2 (ANI): Telangana BJP leader NV Subhash has criticised Mamata Banerjee's government in West Bengal, citing failures over the past two terms. Speaking to ANI on Monday, Subhash expressed confidence in the BJP's growing popularity in the state.
'The people have seen the failures of Mamata Banerjee's regime over the past two terms,' Subhash said. 'After Operation Sindoor, people in West Bengal feel that only PM Modi can keep everyone in this country together on one platform. There is continuous infiltration from China and Bangladesh, and they have become a vote bank for Mamata Banerjee...' Subhash told ANI.
Subhash further highlighted the challenges faced by the state, saying, 'The people of West Bengal are suffocated... West Bengal is becoming a last resort for investors... People from West Bengal are migrating to other states... They are looking for the BJP...'
On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a fresh offensive against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her government of appeasement politics and favouritism through the Waqf Act. Shah said in his address at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. Shah said, 'Is something wrong with the Waqf Act? Should the land of Bengal be sacrificed because of Waqf? Who is Mamata Banerjee favouring by opposing the Waqf Act?... Mamata Banerjee may oppose the Waqf till 2026 because after that she will not be the CM anymore...'
Addressing the BJP Workers Special Organisational Meeting here, Shah also referred to the recent violence in Murshidabad, calling it a deliberate failure of state law enforcement and accused Bengal ministers of actively supporting the rioters.'...There was violence in Murshidabad. The Home Ministry insisted on calling the BSF, but they did not... Our party workers went to the HC, and after the court order, the BSF came and protected the Hindus,' he said.
'Mamata Banerjee's minister abused the BSF, and your leaders were standing there and encouraging the rioters. The ministers of the Bengal government were involved in these riots. This was a state-sponsored riot which caused injustice to the Hindus... Mamata Didi has crossed all limits of Muslim appeasement,' the union minister said. Shah also accused the Mamata Banerjee's regime in West Bengal of fostering lawlessness, corruption, and religious appeasement.
Shah also alleged that the Chief Minister had turned the State into 'a land of infiltration and atrocities on women 'Shah declared that the BJP will form the government in 2026. 'For years, Bengal was ruled by communists. After that, Mamata Banerjee came by with the slogan 'Maa, Maati, Maanush'. She converted the great land of Bengal into a land of infiltration, atrocities on women, crime, bomb blasts and immorality with Hindus...'Hundreds of BJP workers were killed in West Bengal after Mamata Banerjee became the CM... Didi, listen to me, your time is over now. The BJP will form the government in 2026...''... We have to form the BJP government in West Bengal, have to stop infiltration, stop corruption, stop Hindu exodus...' He alleged that the state government had denied land for fencing India's international border with Bangladesh, accusing Banerjee of obstructing central efforts to curb infiltration.
The Union Minister said, 'Mamata Banerjee has opened the nation's borders for Bangladeshis. She is allowing infiltration... Mamata Banerjee cannot stop infiltration; only a Lotus government can do that. We have asked her for land to create the fence... She is not providing land at the borders, so that infiltration continues, and her vote bank keeps increasing, and your nephew becomes the CM after you. But this is not going to happen...'In a blistering critique of violence during elections in the state, Shah challenged the Chief Minister directly.
Shah said, '... If Didi (Mamata Banerjee) has courage, she should try to contest elections without violence, her deposit would be seized. Mamata Banerjee has crossed all limits of appeasement for the votebank... Our people were killed in Pahalgam... Under Operation Sindoor, we went 100km (inside Pakistan) and destroyed their headquarters. 100s of terrorists were killed, and this hurts Didi's stomach... She gave a political speech and opposed Operation Sindoor.'Giving an emotional turn to his speech, Shah said, 'CM has also played with the emotions of crores of women in the country... The sisters and mothers of West Bengal should teach Mamata Banerjee the value of Sindoor in the upcoming elections...'
Shah also issued a stern warning and clarified that Operation Sindoor is 'not yet over.''Mamata Banerjee may favour the Pakistani terrorists as much as she wants, but I want to tell her that this is PM Modi's government and Operation Sindoor is not yet over. Anyone who dares anything will be given a proper answer,' said Amit Shah.Amit Shah's visit is also expected to focus on the BJP's roadmap for West Bengal ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. (ANI)

After his remarks on Operation Sindoor caused an uproar, Madhya Pradesh Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah made his first public appearance in 17 days when he visited the family of a rape-murder victim in Khandwa. Shah was booked by the Madhya Pradesh Police last month after saying in a public meeting in Mhow on May 11 that India taught a lesson to those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack using 'their own sister'. While he did not name anyone, it has been alleged that he was alluding to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who had briefed the media when Operation Sindoor was underway. The minister is now under investigation by a Supreme Court-ordered special investigation team (SIT), and had not been seen in public until May 28, when he visited the grieving family of a woman who was gangraped and murdered in Khandwa district's Khalwa region. Both the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Supreme Court have reprimanded the minister for his statement, and Shah has apologised for the comments three times. The ruling BJP went into damage control mode, and the central leadership of the party is yet to take a call on Shah's future. While his visit to Khandwa on May 28 marks his first public outing since the backlash, he did not speak to the media. Local BJP sources said Shah spent over two hours with the victim's family and promised both financial support and systemic interventions. He reportedly handed over a Rs 60,000 cheque, committed to building a tin roof for the family's house, and promised further financial assistance, sources said. 'He also said that a young girl in the family who had dropped out of school would be re-enrolled. Monthly monitoring meetings are to be initiated in the area to track school dropouts,' a BJP leader said. The Opposition Congress had launched a sarcastic 'missing minister' campaign, plastering posters across Indore and Bhopal with his photograph and a mock reward of Rs 11,000 for anyone who could find him. During this period, Shah skipped the special Cabinet meeting in the historic Rajwada palace to commemorate regional icon, Ahilyabai Holkar, on May 20 and another special Cabinet meeting hosted in the scenic town of Pachmarhi on Tuesday, to honour tribal icon and freedom fighter, Raja Bhabhoot Singh. Shah had also skipped the 300th birth anniversary events of Ahilyabai Holkar, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had arrived in Bhopal on May 31. The Supreme Court has extended the operation of its interim order protecting Shah from arrest. It also closed the suo motu proceedings pending before the Madhya Pradesh High Court as it is already seized of the matter. The SIT had submitted its report to the Supreme Court, which contained investigation details like forensic evidence, and sought more time for the probe.

Jr ministers carp about their seniors, Sena ministers crib to Shinde about Ajit
MUMBAI: Junior ministers or ministers of state (MOS) in the Mahayuti government have sought the intervention of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the matter of delegation of powers by the cabinet ministers of their departments to clear files, hold hearings and other policy-related decisions. The state cabinet has six MOSes—three from the BJP, two from the Shiv Sena and one from the NCP—while the remaining 36 are cabinet ministers. The BJP's MOSes have written to the CM both independently and jointly for his intervention. Their gripe is that despite being sworn in seven months ago, the cabinet ministers have not delegated powers to them, and they have been left with trifling jobs such as receiving memorandums and giving replies to the questions during assembly sessions. 'Junior ministers like Madhuri Misal and Meghana Bordikar have written to the CM,' said a senior BJP leader. 'The departments they represent are mostly headed by Shiv Sena leaders who have not delegated any powers. For instance, as MOS of the urban development department, powers to hold hearings on town planning and policies related to some urban local bodies are expected to be delegated but Sena ministers have not done it so far.' The leader said that the MOSes had written such letters to Fadnavis in the past as well. 'The CM has assured the junior ministers that he will look into the matter at the earliest,' he said. 'The decision is likely to happen before the monsoon session, which begins on June 30.' The BJP leader added that this sort of thing happened in almost all coalition governments, but the tussle had intensified this time. 'The Sena ministers, particularly, have not delegated powers to their MOSes,' he said. 'Ministers of state from the Shiv Sena, on the other hand, have been given powers by the BJP ministers of their departments. For instance, minister of state for home Yogesh Kadam, a Sena leader, has been given specific powers by CM Fadnavis, who heads the department. Similarly, another Sena MOS, Ashish Jaiswal, has been given some powers by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in the finance department.' When questioned, Jaiswal said, 'The MOSes who have capabilities get powers.' According to Sena leaders, there is a lot for junior ministers to do in their departments if they have the capability and know how to use their powers. 'Jaiswal and Kadam have been working efficiently and have played a key role in the decisions and policies of their respective departments,' said a Sena leader. Meanwhile, senior ministers in the Mahayuti too have similar issues. A recent review meeting convened by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde to assess the performance of Shiv Sena-led departments before the local body polls turned into a litany of complaints against NCP leader and finance minister Ajit Pawar. The Sena ministers complained that the discretionary powers held by Ajit were being used to deprive their departments of budgetary funds. Shinde, however, assured his ministers that he would raise the issue with Ajit and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Ladakh: Statehood issue yet to be addressed, say Kargil leaders
With the Union government notifying new rules for Ladakh, allowing reservation in government jobs for locals, a 15-year residency requirement for domicile status, one-third of seats in hill councils for women, and five official languages as part of efforts to safeguard the region's interests, the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has said statehood is a big issue for it. At the same time, it also said 'something is better than nothing'. The KDA, along with the Leh Apex Body (LAB), has been spearheading an agitation in Ladakh, seeking statehood, safeguards enshrined under the sixth schedule of the Constitution and a separate public service commission (PSC) for the strategic Himalayan region. In 2023, the Union home ministry had formed a high-powered committee under minister of state Nityanand Rai to discuss ways to protect Ladakh's unique culture, considering its location and strategic importance. Reacting to the Centre's notifications, KDA's senior leader and political in-charge of Jamiat ul Ulama Isna Ashariya Kargil (JUIAK), Sajjad Hussain Kargili, said, 'Though it's good, women reservation was not a part of our four-point agenda. We have been agitating for legislature. Statehood is a big issue for us.' On domicile law, Kargili said, 'Something is better than nothing. In the past six years, not even a single gazetted post (job) has been given in Ladakh.' 'We also arrived at a consensus that domicile law of 15 years should be implemented prospectively. At the same time, we want it to be made 30 years. The government has assured us to consider it,' said Kargili. 'We hope that without further delay, the Ladkah administration will now advertise jobs,' he said. Congress' Tsering Namgyal, leader of the Opposition in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council of Leh, welcomed 33% reservation for women in hill councils. He lambasted the Centre for fixing 15-year residency for domicile law and described it a ploy to change the demography of Ladakh. 'The LAB and the KDA wanted 1989 as the cut-off year to grant domicile certificates. This 15-year residency rule has been rejected by 80% to 90% people of Ladakh,' he said. Chering Dorjay Lakrook, ex-BJP minister and president of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, refused to make any comment. 'After we study them (notifications), we will address media on Wednesday. Till then, I have been asked not to talk to mediapersons,' he said. The Ladakh Civil Services Decentralisation and Recruitment (Amendment) regulation was notified days after the ministry and Ladakhi representatives met on May 27 and agreed to the rules, an official aware of the matter said. It defines a domicile for jobs for a person who has resided in the UT for 15 years, studied for seven years, and appeared for class 10 or 12 examinations in Ladakh. A similar policy was announced for Jammu and Kashmir in May 2020. The Union Territory of Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Regulation, also notified on Tuesday, says the reservation shall in no case exceed 85% of the available vacancies, excluding reservation for economically weaker sections. The official cited above said 80% of vacancies are reserved for the region's majority, scheduled tribes (STs), 4% for those living along the Line of Actual Control or Line of Control, 1% for the scheduled castes and 10% for the economically weaker sections. The ministry had proposed 95% of the reservation for locals during discussions. The third notification provides for one-third seats for women in the hill councils by rotation to different territorial constituencies. The Ladakh Official Languages Regulation recognises English, Hindi, Urdu, Bhoti, and Purgi as the official languages and says that the administrator 'shall make special efforts for the promotion and development of other native languages of Ladakh: Shina (Dardic), Brokskat (Dardic), Balti and Ladakhi'.
