Report – Inter Milan Still Hoping To Sign Parma Star In Player + Cash

Yahoo26-07-2025
Inter Milan are reportedly still hoping to sign Parma defender Giovanni Leoni for an offer of Sebastiano Esposito plus cash.
This according to today's print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
For the last several weeks, Inter have been heavily linked with Parma defender Giovanni Leoni.
Reportedly, the 19-year-old is the player the Nerazzurri see as ideal for the long-term future of their defense.
Furthermore, the fact that Leoni had worked with coach Cristian Chivu last season has further bumped him up Inter's list of targets.
However, the price tag for Leoni would be quite high. Reportedly, Parma are holding out for as much as €40 million to sell the teenage defender.

Naturally, that €40 million valuation is a big hurdle for Inter in their efforts to sign Leoni.
However, the Nerazzurri are hoping that they can lower that fee.
Inter's idea would be to include striker Sebastiano Esposito in an offer.
The 23-year-old is a player who Inter value at around €7 million. The fact that his contract runs out at the end of June restricts how much they could realistically get for him.
Fiorentina and Cagliari are keen on Esposito. However, neither have managed to make a deal for the striker yet.
Therefore, reports the Corriere dello Sport, Inter are aiming to potentially use Esposito as a makeweight in a deal for Leoni.

The Lombard club shuts the door on a departure for their central defender, deemed untouchable despite English interest. Malick Thiaw Malick Thiaw is at the center of an intense pursuit from Newcastle United. The Magpies have tabled a €30 million bid to AC Milan for the German center-back. However, the Milanese management has declined the offer, according to reports revealed today. AC Milan has thus sent a clear message to Newcastle United. Despite what is considered a "significant" offer from the English club, estimated at around €30 million, the Rossoneri have made it clear they have no intention of parting ways with Malick Thiaw this summer. The soon-to-be 24-year-old remains a top priority for Massimiliano Allegri, who wants to keep the German international defender in his squad for the upcoming season. The Rossoneri coach values the qualities of the Düsseldorf-born player and believes he plays a key role in his tactical plans. This technical recommendation weighed heavily in Milan's decision to reject the English bid. The Schalke 04 academy product also has the advantage of being able to play both as a central defender and as a full-back.

Inter Milan Vice-President Defends Nerazzurri Captain After Post-Fluminense Outburst: 'He Has Strong Sense Of Belonging'

Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti has offered his verdict on Lautaro Martinez's outburst. Speaking to Clank via FCInterNews, Zanetti defended the Nerazzurri captain for calling out several teammates. Lautaro Martinez made a shocking statement after Inter bowed out of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Indeed, carried away by emotions, El Toro took a dig at several clubmates, including Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turk was the subject of intense transfer rumors at the time. More importantly, he chose not to address speculation, fueling doubts over his future while causing tension within the squad. Calhanoglu's silence prompted Lautaro's firm response, which caused concerns within the upper management. The Argentine saw the midfielder's behavior as a lack of commitment and felt compelled to unburden himself. However, Javier Zanetti understands the 27-year-old's reaction. Like El Toro, Zanetti was a fierce competitor during his playing career at San Siro. (Photo by) 'Lautaro has a great sense of belonging and is doing very well at the club,' Zanetti said. 'I'm very happy with his journey. He reminds me of when I started. 'When we signed him from Racing, we knew that with young players, you never know what you're going to get. 'But we made that investment expecting him to grow over time, and he did. 'After the World Cup, everything happened so fast. The match ends, and there's a microphone in front of him. 'These things can always be resolved. Now we're preparing for the new season. I understand him – it was an emotional moment. 'Everything falls on you. The important thing is to rebuild. They posted a photo with Calhanoglu. 'Things get solved by talking. Now we're all focused on the new season.' Then, Zanetti addressed the club's failed attempt to lure Walter Samuel back to San Siro, albeit in a different capacity. 'First of all, when speaking with the president and sporting director, we agreed we needed someone who knew the club and its environment. 'A former teammate, someone with personality. When you find someone who checks all the boxes, it's ideal. 'We tried with Samuel, but before the World Cup, he didn't feel ready to take on the role.'
