Vargas and Tauchman lead White Sox over Pirates 7-2 for 1st series sweep of season
Vargas hit a three-run shot to open the scoring against Andrew Heaney, his 11th homer of the year, but first since June 15. Tauchman followed by launching a drive that carried over the right-field stands and bounced into the Allegheny River.
The White Sox became the last major league team to sweep a series this season as they sent the Pirates to their 11th loss in 12 games.
Tauchman hit a two-run double in the fifth to chase Heaney and extend the lead to 7-1.
Aaron Civale (2-6) got his first win in seven starts since being acquired from Milwaukee in a June 13 trade. He gave up one unearned run and three hits in six innings with six strikeouts.
Vargas, Tauchman, Chase Meidroth and Michael A. Taylor each had two hits for the White Sox.
Heaney (4-9) was tagged for seven runs and nine hits in four innings. The left-hander has lost six of seven decisions since May 26.
Vargas' home run to center field put the White Sox on the path to a three-game sweep.
Andrew McCutchen's ninth-inning double for Pittsburgh was his 2,232nd hit, tying Pirates great Willie Stargell for 180th on the MLB career list.
The White Sox open a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night in Tampa, with Sean Burke (4-8, 4.36 ERA) pitching for Chicago against fellow right-hander Shane Baz (8-5, 4.17).
National League All-Star Game starter Paul Skenes (4-8, 2.01 ERA) goes for the Pirates on Monday night to begin a three-game series with visiting Detroit and Jack Flaherty (5-9, 4.65).

Key moment Leading 4-2, the Nationals loaded the bases with one out in the fifth. Call hit a grounder up the middle that second baseman Brooks Lee was ready to turn into an inning-ending double play. Perkins delivers winning hit as Brewers rally to beat Marlins 3-2 and avoid sweep
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Blake Perkins singled home the winning run in the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Sunday. The Brewers erased a 2-1 deficit by scoring in each of the final two innings to avoid the sweep. The Brewers have been swept just once, in their opening series of the season at Yankee Stadium. Eric Haase hit a one-out bloop single to center off Cade Gibson (2-5) in the ninth and advanced to third on Brice Turang's broken-bat double down the left-field line. Gibson intentionally walked Jackson Chourio to load the bases. Perkins then lofted a 3-2 pitch well over the head of center fielder Dane Myers. Perkins had scored the tying run in the eighth after entering as a pinch-runner, stealing second and coming home on Andrew Vaughn's two-out, ground-rule double off Ronny Henriquez. Milwaukee's Trevor Megill (3-2) allowed a two-out double to Javier Sanoja in the top of the ninth, but right fielder Isaac Colins made a running catch of a fly ball to end the threat. Miami's Heriberto Hernández homered for a second straight game. Key moment Miami led 2-1 and had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh when the Marlins ran themselves out of an inning. Aaron Ashby picked off Myers at second base. Alex Bregman hits 2-run HR, Red Sox take series vs. Dodgers with 4-3 win
BOSTON (AP) — Alex Bregman hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning and the Boston Red Sox hung on to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 Sunday for a series win. Rookie Roman Anthony added an RBI triple for the Red Sox, who captured their first series since the All-Star break. Boston had a 10-game winning streak entering the break. Boston closer Aroldis Chapman walked off the mound with an apparent injury in the eighth inning. In to face the top of the Dodgers' order, his velocity was noticeably down to the mid-90 mph on his fastball instead of the high 90s to low 100s. Michael Conforto hit a solo homer and had two doubles for the Dodgers. Jordan Hicks entered and got out of a two-on, one-out mess when Teoscar Hernández lined to second and Ceddanne Rafaela dove to the bag, beating Hyeseong Kim for double play. Hicks pitched the ninth for his second save. Brennan Bernardino (4-2) got an out in relief for the victory.
