Liverpool commission permanent Diogo Jota tribute at Anfield
Liverpool have commissioned a sculpture to be made in honour of Diogo Jota outside Anfield after the thousands of floral tributes to their No.20 were gradually removed in recent days. And the Reds players were wear a specially-designed patch with 'Diogo J 20' stitched on in honour of their team-mate across the two games in the Far East, starting with AC Milan at the Kai Tak Stadium on Saturday evening (12.30pm UK time). A floral tribute will also be laid before kick-off at the pre-season games in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Anfield. Jota and his younger brother, Andre Silva, were involved in a fatal car crash in north-west Spain earlier this month as the Portugal international attempted to make his way back to Merseyside for the start of pre-season training. Floral tributes that were left outside Anfield following the passing of the striker will now be composted and used in flower beds across all club sites, including Anfield, the AXA Training Centre and AXA Melwood Training Centre. The remaining artefacts are set to be recycled by a specialist company and used to help create a permanent memorial for Jota, that will become a future focal point of remembrance at Anfield. The design itself remains the subject of dialogue. In the meantime, a temporary area of reflection has been created outside the ground itself so people can continue to pay their respects. Any supporters paying to have Jota's name on their shirts will see their payment donated to the LFC Foundation and when the club's new Adidas kits are launched on August 1, Reds players will display their own tribute with a specially made 'Forever 20' emblem printed into their shirts and stadium jackets, which will remain in place for the season. The LFC Foundation has also committed to creating a grassroots football programme in Diogo's name, while a special fan mosaic and a minute of silence is being planned for the first game of the Premier League season, against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday August 15.

Howe confident Isak will stay at Newcastle despite transfer talk
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe insisted Saturday that Alexander Isak is still a Newcastle player despite speculation around a move to either Premier League champions Liverpool or Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Isak has not travelled with Newcastle for their pre-season tour of Asia, apparently because of a minor thigh injury, but Howe said the 25-year-old Swedish striker was a key part of his plans. "Of course, there are always going to be things going on behind the scenes," Howe told reporters in Singapore, where Newcastle play Arsenal on Sunday. "He is aware he's in the news every day, which I'm sure is not easy for anyone in that situation. "Conversations between Alex and the club or with me will stay private for obvious reasons. We do share a good relationship," Howe added. Isak, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, has been "magnificent for us for as long as he has been with us," said Howe. "And he is very comfortable in the dressing room." Isak did not travel with the Magpies after the thigh injury kept him out of Newcastle's friendly defeat to Celtic last week. "He mentioned before the Celtic game that it would be very minimal and nothing too serious," said Howe. "But he left training very early and didn't feel right. So, he's now back in Newcastle getting that injury assessed." Howe remained confident that Isak will be wearing black and white when the new season kicks off next month. "I said after the game against Celtic that I was confident he would stay. I don't see anything that is going to change that opinion of mine at the moment. "It's football," he added. "And who knows what the future may bring." THE BIGGER PICTURE Isak has been linked with a record-breaking move to Liverpool for some time now, but Newcastle always shut down any talk and claimed he was not going anywhere this summer. This may have changed since reports emerged on Thursday that Isak wants to leave St James' Park and explore moves elsewhere. The Magpies now have a big decision to make about whether to let him go or offer him the contract he wants in the hope he changes his mind. WHAT HOWE SAID Howe said: "I wouldn't put a timescale on it. I think with these situations it has to be right for the football club, and everything then is taken into context below that. But the club will make the right decision with all the information that it has, and ultimately to try and move the club forward in whatever way that is. Then it's up to us to make good decisions the other way and try and improve the squad as best we can. That's what we're trying to do, regardless of Alex's situation. "But I think there's a wider picture here. There's a whole football club that has to make the decision. The ownership, together with the board of directors, especially with the money involved in modern day transfers. The manager of course has an opinion, but ultimately the decision will rest with the board. "Of course there's things going on behind the scenes (with Alex). He will be aware he's in the news every day, and I'm sure that's not easy for anyone in that situation. Conversations that happen between Alex and the club or Alex and myself will stay private for obvious reasons. We do share a really good relationship with him. "He's been magnificent for us and he's very popular in the dressing room. We'd love him to continue his journey at Newcastle. I certainly hope he stays. And I said [last weekend] I was confident that he'd stay. I don't see anything that's going to change that opinion of mine at the moment, but it's football and who knows what the future may bring. "All I would say on the broader picture is whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle. We're in a very strong position financially. We're determined to be successful. We are ambitious. We've got a great season ahead of us. We need to add to the squad and continue to improve, and the journey can continue in an upward trajectory. "As far as I'm aware, I don't think there are any contract talks taking place at the moment," he added. "That'll be for a later date potentially. I think for now, with the situation as it is and the state of the window, in the sense that it's hurtling towards the end of the window very quickly, from our perspective, there's still so much that could happen." WHAT NEXT FOR ISAK, HOWE AND NEWCASTLE? As Howe suggested, this situation may not be resolved for a little while yet. While Sweden international Isak dreams of a big move away after not joining Newcastle on pre-season tour due to a "minor thigh injury", the club need to spend some time considering what they would do if they were to lose him. There would be a huge influx of cash which would need to be spent wisely on improving Howe's side as the Magpies prepare for Champions League football next season.
