Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 5: Aamir Khan's film surpasses Bhool Chuk Maaf and hits Rs 75 crore; no-streaming stand pays off
Aamir Khan's firm stand to not release his new film, RS Prasanna's coming-of-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par, on streaming has paid off. The actor, who hasn't sold the streaming rights of the film to any platform yet, claimed that he would decide on its home video release only after it finishes its theatrical run. He added the film wouldn't come on a streaming platform at least until a year.
Sitaare Zameen Par continues to hold strong at the domestic box office even during weekdays. On Tuesday, its fifth day since release on June 20, it earned Rs 8.5 crore, which is as much as how much it earned on Monday. While that saw a massive drop from its Sunday or Saturday earnings of Rs 27.25 crore and Rs 20.2 crore respectively, the film passed the Monday test because the figure that day was only slightly lower than that of its opening day's Rs 10.7 crore.
Now, as per industry tracker Sacnilk, the current domestic box office collection of Sitaare Zameen Par stands at Rs 75.15 crore. Two days after it crossed the Rs 50 crore milestone in India, the film has now breached the Rs 75 crore mark too. Given its current trajectory, it should enter the Rs 100 crore club this weekend, unless its pace is thwarted majorly by the new competitor on Friday.
This Friday, on June 27, Vishal Furia's mythological horror film Maa will be released in cinemas. Starring Kajol and co-produced by Ajay Devgn, it comes from the world of Vikas Bahl's hit Shaitaan from last year, which earned Rs 147.97 crore at the domestic box office.
Sitaare Zameen Par has also surpassed the lifetime domestic box office collection of Karan Sharma's romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. It's an interesting comparison because producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films opted for a polar opposite strategy than Aamir to release his film.
On the eve of its initial theatrical release, Vijan announced that Bhool Chuk Maaf would now skip the cinemas and premiere directly on Prime Video India the following week. After leading multiplex chain PVR INOX sued Maddock Films, it was agreed that the film would first release in cinemas, but that would be followed by its streaming release in just two weeks.

While this was a one-off exception, Aamir has been insisting that even the norm of an eight-week window between theatrical and streaming releases is quite short. He even claimed that his last year's production, Kiran Rao's coming-of-age film Laapataa Ladies, would've earned Rs 100 crore if the audience didn't know it's dropping on Netflix soon. The film, featuring mostly newcomers, earned only Rs 20 crore at the domestic box office.

Why Prada's Kolhapuri chappals and LV's desi trunks prove luxury fashion is obsessed with Indian staples
India is not just vibing, it is serving influence. And no, we are not talking about influencers doing yoga on the banks of the Ganga. We are talking about Prada launching its take on Kolhapuri chappals (yes, the ones uncle wears to weddings), and Louis Vuitton slapping their logo on trunks that scream 'Sharmaji's shaadi ka samaan.' Why is every luxe brand suddenly obsessed with Indian style? | Credit: Instagram Why is every luxe brand suddenly obsessed with Indian style? | Credit: Instagram From desi to designer: India's influence is dripping on global runways, and it is not giving! What once sat quietly in Indian bazaars is now strutting down Milan runways with a four-digit price tag. Kolhapuris that you could grab in Lajpat Nagar for Rs 500 are now rebranded as 'heritage sandals' for over Rs 70,000. No, this is not satire, it is fashion. View this post on Instagram Prada's Kolhapuris and the big brand rebranding Let us begin with Prada, who just launched their "luxury leather toe-loop flats,' but every Indian auntie knows a Kolhapuri when she sees one. Complete with minimal detailing and raw leather edges, these sandals are being praised as timeless elegance. Meanwhile, somewhere in Kolhapur, a chappal-maker probably just snorted his chai. View this post on Instagram Fashion watchers say that high-end brands are going through an Indiafication, where they borrow, glam up and sell Indian staples back to us as aspirational pieces. Louis Vuitton's desi trunks are basically fancy shaadi baggage Now cue Louis Vuitton, who are living their best wedding-planner fantasy with trunks that give off major Delhi dulhan ki packing vibes. Sure, they are sleek, monogrammed, and priced like your first car, but anyone who has ever stored their sarees in a steel Godrej cupboard knows exactly what inspired this. Balenciaga once flirted with a polybag-inspired tote. Dior has played with Indian embroidery. Sabyasachi made his way to H&M. Everyone is dipping their ladle in the desi curry. Well, this might sound difficult to believe, but it is true as pictures of the humble 'jhola' being sold at such an exorbitant rate have gone viral on social media. Why a Rs 100 jhola selling for Rs 4000 is going viral in India? | Credit: X | wordi25 The classic desi carryall has been given a bougie twist — Japanese label Puebco is now marketing it as the 'Indian Souvenir Bag' on Nordstrom's online store, slapping a luxe price tag on what is basically every Indian mum's trusted tote. Cultural appreciation or fashion appropriation? The bigger question: is this just admiration or are these brands cosplaying culture for clout and cash? Where are the nods to Indian artisans? The royalties? The collaborations? Why a Rs 100 jhola selling for Rs 4000 is going viral in India? | Credit: X | wordi25 Until we get answers, just know this, what your nani carried to sabzi mandi is now being carried to the ramp that too for big brands. And honestly? That is both iconic and insane.

Kannappa X Maa Box Office Clash: Akshay Kumar Sends Heartfelt Wishes To Ajay Devgn And Kajol Ahead Of Release
New Delhi: As the Indian film industry gears up for a major cinematic clash on June 27, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has extended a heartfelt and humorous message to his longtime friend and collaborator Ajay Devgn, as well as actress Kajol. With both Kannappa and Maa scheduled to release on the same day, Akshay took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share his good wishes, bringing a touch of camaraderie and warmth to what is often seen as a competitive space. 'Yaar Ajay hum dono ki picture aa rahi hai iss Friday. Tu apne fans ki good wishes #Kannappa ko bhej de aur mai Mahadev ki blessing #Maa ko. Kya bolta hai? Goodluck to Kajol and you bhai…May the power be with you,' wrote Akshay, playfully asking Devgn to send his fans' blessings to Kannappa, while he, in turn, sends divine blessings to Maa. Yaar Ajay hum dono ki picture aa rahi hai iss Friday. Tu apne fans ki good wishes #Kannappa ko bhej de aur main mere Mahadev ki blessing #Maa ko. Kya bolta hai? Goodluck to Kajol and you bhai…May the power be with you. @ajaydevgn @itsKajolD — Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) June 24, 2025 Both films have generated significant buzz, offering audiences two vastly different yet equally compelling cinematic experiences. Kannappa: A Mythological Spectacle with Star Power Kannappa, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by veteran actor Mohan Babu, is a Telugu-language mythological action film rooted in the powerful tale of devotion to Lord Shiva. Akshay Kumar portrays Lord Mahadev in the film, marking his first appearance in a mythological role in South Indian cinema. The film follows the journey of Kannappa, a fierce warrior and an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, who ultimately sacrifices his own eyes in a supreme act of devotion. Vishnu Manchu stars in the pivotal role, while the supporting cast boasts a stellar lineup including Mohan Babu, R Sarathkumar, Brahmanandam, Arpit Ranka, Madhoo, Siva Balaji, and many more. Shot across stunning landscapes and brought to life with grand VFX, Kannappa promises to deliver a larger-than-life experience, blending spirituality, action, and emotion. For Akshay Kumar, the film also represents a new chapter in his already diverse career, introducing him to Telugu audiences in a deeply revered role. Maa: Kajol's Chilling Debut in the Horror Genre In stark contrast to Kannappa's spiritual and mythological themes, Kajol steps into darker territory with Maa, a psychological horror-thriller produced by Devgn Films and Jio Studios. Marking her first into horror in a career spanning over three decades, Kajol is expected to deliver a powerful and emotionally intense performance. Maa is positioned as a spin-off or spiritual successor to Shaitaan, the 2024 supernatural thriller that captivated audiences with its eerie atmosphere and gripping storyline. The trailer for Maa has already made waves, with viewers praising its chilling tone, intelligent writing, and haunting visuals. The film intertwines supernatural elements with themes of maternal instinct, sacrifice, and the age-old battle between good and evil. Kajol's decision to enter the horror genre adds a fresh dimension to her body of work and is being seen as a bold, genre-defying move. The film's narrative is said to blend modern fears with ancient myths, creating a terrifying yet thought-provoking cinematic journey. A Box Office Clash - But with Friendship at the Forefront As both films prepare for their theatrical release on June 27, fans are excited not just for the stories being told, but for the rare box office clash involving three beloved stars of Indian cinema, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, and Kajol. Akshay and Ajay have shared a long and friendly history in Bollywood, starring together in multiple successful films such as Suhaag, Khakee, and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. While one film celebrates divine devotion and mythological valor, the other dives deep into emotional horror and supernatural suspense. Regardless of who wins at the box office, audiences are in for a rich, diverse cinematic weekend that showcases the best of what Indian filmmakers and actors have to offer. Verdict: June 27 Promises an Unmissable Double Feature Whether you're drawn to the epic spirituality of Kannappa or the spine-chilling mystery of Maa, this Friday's twin releases are shaping up to be major events in the Indian film calendar. With star-studded casts, innovative storytelling, and massive fan followings behind both films, cinema lovers have much to look forward to.
