Salman Khan's Bodyguard Shera Plays 'Bhai' In New Ad, Makes Acting Debut
Salman Khan's bodyguard Shera debuts in a Raksha Bandhan ad for Instamart, playing a caring brother.
After years of guarding Bollywood's Bhai, Salman Khan's trusted bodyguard Shera has now channeled his inner Bhai on screen. While fans might remember his blink-and-miss cameo in Salman's 2011 film Bodyguard, Shera has now officially made his acting debut. In a brand-new Raksha Bandhan ad for a grocery delivery app, Shera swaps security duty for screen time.
In Instamart's new Raksha Bandhan ad, Shera takes on the role of a caring brother for women who need help. Whether it's finding a rickshaw in the rain or stopping a classmate from crossing the line, Shera steps in like a true 'bhai'. The ad sends a sweet message that Shera is everyone's brother and reminds viewers to do something nice for their own brothers by sending them a rakhi.
The ad was released on Friday, just in time for Raksha Bandhan. Some people joked that Shera looked a bit like Yuvraj Singh or Mika in the ad, while others had a laugh at the clever wordplay on 'bhai", a nod not just to brothers, but also to Salman Khan, who's famously known as Bhai and happens to be Shera's real-life boss.
Shera, whose real name is Gurmeet Singh Jolly, has been by Salman Khan's side as his personal bodyguard and head of security since 1995. He also runs his own company, Tiger Security, which has handled protection for many big celebrities over the years. He took charge of Justin Bieber's security during the pop star's Mumbai concert in 2017.
Before stepping into the world of security, Shera was a champion bodybuilder. He grabbed the Mumbai junior title in 1987 and was the runner-up in the Mr Maharashtra Junior contest in 1988. By the early '90s, he had transitioned into the security business and not long after, became Salman Khan's right-hand man.
As for Salman, his most recent film Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, and Sathyaraj, didn't quite hit the mark. Despite the star power, the film struggled at the box office, earning Rs 176 crore against its Rs 200-crore budget.

The countdown has begun for Indian television's most talked-about reality show. Bigg Boss is all set to return with its brand-new season, and this time the makers are introducing a concept like never before. Bigg Boss Season 19 will premiere on August 24, 2025, with none other than superstar Salman Khan taking over as host once again. From the day the season was announced, speculations have been high about the twists and surprises in store for viewers. The recently released trailer has given fans their first peek into what is coming. Salman Khan has revealed that the theme of Bigg Boss 19 is 'Gharwalon Ki Sarkaar," setting the stage for a completely new way of playing the game. Gharwalon Ki Sarkaar- Theme of Bigg Boss 19 The theme this year is inspired by the Parliament of India and will add a political twist to the Bigg Boss format. The makers have promised that the new season will focus on freedom and democracy within the house. For the first time in the show's history, housemates will be given the power to make their own decisions both small and big without direct interference from Bigg Boss. But with freedom comes responsibility, and the house is expected to turn into a hotbed of debates, negotiations and confrontations. Bigg Boss 19 Will Have an 'Assembly House' One of the major highlights will be the introduction of an 'Assembly House" inside the Bigg Boss premises. A source close to the production told Times of India TV that there will be no weekly captain this season. Instead, contestants will be divided into two political parties each week. These parties will go head-to-head in tasks and discussions, and the housemates themselves will vote to elect their representative. This chosen leader will then have to navigate the responsibilities and challenges that come with power. The Trailer of Bigg Boss 19 Colors TV and JioCinema have dropped the trailer, and fans cannot stop talking about Salman Khan's new look. Dressed in a Nehru jacket, the superstar is seen entering the Parliament-themed Bigg Boss house with his trademark swag. In the video, he says, 'Aisa pehli baar hua 18-19 saalon mein (This has happened for the first time in 18–19 years). This time, Bigg Boss won't be about crazy drama, but about democracy. Every small and big decision will be in the hands of the housemates. So housemates, do whatever you want to do, man — but be ready for the consequences and the public, because this time in Bigg Boss, it's the Gharwaalon ki Sarkaar (housemates' government)." Salman Khan on Bigg Boss 19 Theme He also shared in a statement, 'Bigg Boss ka har season alag hota hai, lekin iss baar toh scene hi palat gaya hai. 'Gharwalon Ki Sarkaar' ka matlab hai power unke haath mein aur jab power milti hai, toh asli chehre saamne aate hain. Is baar contestants ko apne decisions lene ka poora haq diya gaya hai, par har decision ke saath ek consequence bhi aata hai. Main hamesha kehta hoon, tameez se khelo, par yeh log tameez chhod ke drama le aate hain. This season, they'll try to run the house their way, but when things go out of control, you know who's coming back to set the record straight!" When And Where To Watch Bigg Boss 19 will premiere on August 24, streaming at 9 PM on JioCinema and airing at 10:30 PM on Colors TV. The official list of contestants will be revealed during the grand premiere night, and with the theme promising politics, power struggles and full-fledged debates, this season is already shaping up to be one of the most intense and unpredictable in the show's history. Divya Seth On SC's Stray Dogs Directive: ‘There Was Supposed To Be Mass Sterilisation'
Last Updated: Divya Seth criticised this decision and highlighted the government's failure to implement a mass sterilisation plan. The Supreme Court's order to relocate stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks has been criticised heavily by public figures, activists and commoners. Bollywood celebrities also jumped in to protest, urging the Supreme Court to be more empathetic towards these dogs. Among the celebrities, Jab We Met actress Divya Seth criticised this decision and highlighted the government's failure to implement a mass sterilisation plan, emphasising its role in the growing stray dog population. Divya Seth's Response to Supreme Court's Order During a debate with Times Now, Divya Seth was seen heavily criticising the Supreme Court's order. 'There was an original option, which is that every municipality in our country was given enough funding to neuter these dogs. There was supposed to be mass sterilisation, but it didn't happen; it didn't happen," the actress highlighted the government's failure to implement the right plan. 'I have rescued two dogs whose ears were clipped, but they were pregnant. So the problem began over there—that's why there is this immense population of dogs, because they were not neutered responsibly. They have to be neutered, and they have to be sterilised," she added. Known for her love for dogs Divya revealed she has five stray dogs outside her house and five in the house. 'Do you know what a superpower street dogs have? I have been rescuing them since I was a child. I have five outside and five in my house. They think your home is theirs to protect. They think your children are theirs to guard. All they ask for in return is a little bit of kindness and just a little bit of food. I understand this, with all due respect to all the people who are scared," she said. Lakshmi Manchu Questioned In Illegal Betting App Case After Vijay Devarakonda, Rana Daggubati
Last Updated: Actress Manchu Lakshmi appeared before the ED for questioning about promoting illegal betting apps. Actors Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Rana Daggubati were also questioned. Actress Manchu Lakshmi appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday for questioning related to the promotion of illegal betting apps. The ED had recently summoned her as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering linked to these apps. During the session, officials questioned her about the payments and commissions she reportedly received from endorsing such platforms. Manchu Lakshmi is not the only celebrity under scrutiny; actors Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Rana Daggubati have also been questioned in connection with the case. Prakash Raj revealed he promoted a betting app back in 2016 but did not accept any payment and later distanced himself from it on moral grounds. Vijay Deverakonda maintained that he endorsed a legal gaming app, not a betting platform, and similarly declined payment due to ethical concerns. Rana Daggubati was also questioned regarding his earnings from promoting a betting brand. The ED's probe includes 29 individuals, such as actors and social media influencers, suspected of endorsing illegal betting apps on digital platforms. The agency is investigating the financial transactions and online trails tied to these endorsements to uncover the extent of the operation. Last week, actor Vijay Deverakonda, who is basking in the success of his latest film Kingdom, was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of the investigation. Officials at the ED's Basheerbagh office in Hyderabad questioned him over promotional contracts with betting apps and the payments tied to those deals. This appearance followed actor Prakash Raj's five-hour session with the ED on July 30. According to Prakash Raj, he did one ad for a gaming app back in 2016 but refused payment. 'I did not take any payment, as my conscience did not allow me to take it," he told the officials during the session. I did only one advertisement for a gaming app, but later realised that I should not have done it." Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
