Hyderabad: Calling himself a 'BC' (Brahmin community) representative,
Telangana BJP
chief N Ramchander Rao on Friday challenged chief minister A
Revanth Reddy
to appoint either BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar or TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud—both from the Backward Classes—as the chief minister of Telangana.
This sharp retort came in response to Revanth's recent suggestion that the NDA govt consider BC leader Bandaru Dattatreya for the post of Vice President.
Speaking to the media, Ramchander Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of failing to constitute a national BC commission when it was in power. He also questioned the party's sincerity toward BC welfare, especially regarding its silence on the caste census data.
He urged the state govt to stop shifting the onus of BC reservations to the Centre and instead implement the 42% reservation in local body elections themselves.

He reiterated BJP's commitment to the BC community, promising that 42% of local election seats would be allocated to BC candidates. He also said he would take legal action against what he called 'false allegations' made by deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka in the Rohith Vemula case.

Alleging collusion between BRS and Congress to sideline the BJP, Ramchander Rao questioned the disappearance of ₹1,000 crore allocated to the MBC corporation under the former BRS regime. He called the BRS a family-run party operating under the dictates of former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Commenting on the ongoing phone tapping controversy, he said the issue falls under TRAI's jurisdiction, and any central-level irregularities should be probed by the CBI.
He demanded full disclosure on procurement and accountability in the case, alleging deliberate concealment by the authorities.
On the Kaleshwaram project, he flagged a serious concern—₹150 crore was found with a single officer, but no political figure was held accountable.
He also hit out at the Congress govt's handling of the HYDRAA initiative. "Instead of building homes, they've demolished shelters of the poor in the name of HYDRAA.
The project is a complete failure," he declared, predicting the govt's eventual collapse.

Hyderabad: In a surprise announcement, BJP chief N Ramchander Rao said he would not contest the next election but would continue to serve the party. "Even without a post for five years, I stayed committed. I want to set an example. There will be no bloated committees like Congress had—we aim for a lean, effective structure," he added.

Shashi Tharoor Not On Op Sindoor Debate List, Congress Sources Say He Declined

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor evaded a question on whether he would speak during the special discussion in the Parliament on Operation Sindoor today, amid reports that he is not among the speakers chosen by his Congress party. Mr Tharoor was in the Parliament complex ahead of the resumption of the Monsoon session when an NDTV journalist asked him if he was among the speakers who would lead the charge against the government over the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. The MP from Thiruvananthapuram walked away without answering, only to turn back when a colleague, Renuka Chowdhury, called him. The reporters present there then turned to Ms Chowdhury and asked her if she would like Mr Tharoor to speak in the Parliament today. "He is constitutionally empowered to speak anywhere. Who am I to give permission?" she replied. Mr Tharoor had led arguably the most important delegation to the US during the outreach initiative following Op Sindoor - a move that is believed to have intensified an apparent rift between the senior leader and the Congress leadership.

‘Linguistic terror': Mamata Banerjee alleges Bengali migrant's family beaten up by Delhi Police

Reiterating her accusation that the Bharatiya Janata Party has unleashed ' linguistic terrorism ' against Bengali speakers, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday alleged that a Bengali migrant worker's family was harassed and tortured by the police in Delhi. The chief minister shared a video on social media in which a man can be heard accusing the Delhi Police of beating his wife and infant son. 'Atrocious!! Terrible!! See how Delhi Police brutally beat up a kid and his mother, members of a migrant family from Malda's Chanchal,' Banerjee wrote. 'Even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by the BJP in the country against the Bengalis!' It is unclear when the purported video was recorded. Banerjee's statement came on the day that the Trinamool Congress launched the 'Bhasha Andolan', a campaign against the alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking persons in BJP-ruled states. The Trinamool Congress chief had announced the protest on July 21 at the party's annual Martyrs' Day rally in Kolkata, saying that the fight to protect the Bengali language and identity would continue until the BJP was voted out. Assembly elections in West Bengal are expected to take place in March or April 2026. Her remarks also come amid Indian authorities pursuing a policy over the past month to 'push' individuals claimed to be undocumented migrants into Bangladesh. Many of those forced out of the country claim that they are Indian citizens. Reports of migrant workers from West Bengal living in BJP-ruled states, including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Delhi, being detained and deported under allegations that they were Bangladeshi citizens have also emerged. India has forced more than 2,000 persons, alleged to be undocumented migrants, into Bangladesh since the country launched ' Operation Sindoor ', a military operation against terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The legality of the 'push back' policy has been debated in India and internationally. Experts have told Scroll that the policy violated India's obligations under international law and customary international law. In June, four men from West Bengal, who had been picked up by the Maharashtra Police and forced into Bangladesh, were brought back on June 15. The Murshidabad Police in West Bengal had presented proof of them being Indian citizens. On July 16, the Calcutta High Court asked the Union government if there was truth to the claims that Bengali-speaking persons were being deported to Bangladesh.
