Huge EastEnders twist as another major couple get engaged

Metroa day ago

This article contains spoilers for tomorrow's episode of EastEnders, which airs Friday at 7.30pm on BBC One or can be streamed now on iPlayer.
Wedding bells are set to ring out across Albert Square once again, as a beloved couple decided to tie the knot.
I am, of course, referring to Patrick and Yolande Trueman (Rudolph Walker and Angela Wynter), who recently won the British Soap Award for Best On-Screen Partnership.
What a way to cap off the celebrations!
Throughout this week's episodes of the soap, we've seen the couple struggle with intimacy in the wake of a horrific incident.
Some of the serial's most harrowing scenes ever aired last year, when church-leader Pastor Clayton (Howard Saddler) sexually assaulted Yolande in a store room at the community centre.
She bravely spoke up about her ordeal to friend Elaine Knight (Harriet Thorpe), and then found the courage to report his crime to the police.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of evidence, there was little that they could do.
However, soon after, a second survivor of his abuse came forward, with the CPS charging him with two counts of sexual assault.
Their bravery was noted by a third woman, who also came forward, prompting Clayton to barge his way into Yolande's house in an attempt to get her to drop the charges.
Later that night, the police arrived and she assumed he'd spread more vicious lies about her. They were actually there to reveal that Clayton had taken his own life.
Since then, Yolande has tried to rebuild her life and reconnect with her Christian faith – something which she abandoned following the sexual assault.
Earlier this week, Yolande went to run herself a bath and asked her life partner to give her a massage afterwards.

Things turned frosty when he refused to touch her, later admitting that he didn't want her to draw any comparisons to her abuser. More Trending
She was furious that he'd taken it upon himself to decide to eradicate their sex life based upon something that happened to her , and they seemed to reach the end of the road.
However, after some words of wisdom from Denise Fox (Diane Parish), the pair reconciled.

As they danced slowly around the living room, Patrick wanted to cement his commitment by popping the question – and Yolande was more than happy to accept!

Ex EastEnders actress has ‘breakdown' as she spots her ribs in picture after illness led to dramatic weight loss

Plus, what Melissa told The Sun about her unintentional weight loss last year 'I HATE IT' Ex EastEnders actress has 'breakdown' as she spots her ribs in picture after illness led to dramatic weight loss Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MELISSA Suffield has shared an emotional post on social media after she unintentionally lost weight because of an illness. Melissa, 32, was diagnosed with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) after experiencing "horrible nausea" in 2023. Sharing a snap from inside a fitting room, Melissa could be seen donning a bright green plunging dress. "I had a bit of a breakdown today," Melissa began her post. She said: "Today has been not a very good day. "I had a bit of a menty b in the changing rooms while I was filming some bits. "I'm sure light didn't help, but I could see my ribs visible in the middle of my chest," she explained, referring to her chest area visible because of the plunging neckline. Melissa added: "And I just totally lost it. Like, cartoon floods of tears, unable to catch breath, that sort of thing. "You can see it on my face, like I am seconds away from breaking the f*ck down. And that is indeed what then happened." Getting even more emotional, Melissa went on: "It's just such a visible reminder of how much SIBO has taken from me. How much else I've lost along with the weight. 'I HATE IT' "And that doesn't even begin to cover the mental/emotional impact. Former EastEnders star opens up about drastic weight loss after health battle and says she was healthier when she was bigger "The fact that we glorify weight loss so much much is weighing so heavy on me, especially when I look in the mirror and see this. I hate it. "I know there are people who would be overjoyed to see this, but when you lose the weight like this, trust me, it's not a nice feeling. There is no accomplishment. Just a reminder of everything you have lost. "And no matter how often I talk about it, I'm going through it alone. Nobody will ever truly understand, even if they're going through it themselves. "Nobody else will know what I'm thinking when my legs feel so heavy I can barely manage the stairs. Or how lonely it is when you're still awake at 3am because the nausea won't let you lay down." What is SIBO? SIBO is also known as Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. Melissa experiences nausea, reflux, constipation, and other symptoms like her hair falling out and suffering from dry skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition occurs "when there is an abnormal increase in the overall bacterial population in the small intestine — particularly types of bacteria not commonly found in that part of the digestive tract." Melissa then spoke about how she often talks about body confidence and embracing change, but noted how "this feels different" because there is "nothing to embrace". ANGRY BECAUSE OF SIBO She added how the impact her long term illness has had on her body image is "wild" before saying her body is "broken". The former soap star then said how she has to be a mother, an attentive partner, a cleaner, a cook and everything else in between, but when she was in the changing room, it was just her. "But in that changing room, nobody else, I'm just me. There aren't any responsibilities or asks. "So she puts it all down and she breaks in half. "And then she dries her eyes, and she cracks on. Again," she said. Melissa then revealed the "two good things" to come out of the "breakdown". "I got angry," she penned, revealing the first "good thing". "Yet again, another renewed fire for talking about SIBO. For educating as many people as possible. For helping people understand the symptoms, for forcing healthcare professionals to sit up and listen, for changing the perception, and for advocating for treatment. "A fight I will always show up for, no matter what." She then revealed the second "good thing", saying: "I bought the dress anyway. Because I love the colour, the cut, and of course, the pockets. "I'm not going to let SIBO take anything else from me." 'THERE'S NO JOY' Last year, Melissa opened up about her unintentional weight loss exclusively to The Sun. "Obviously, I've lost quite a lot of weight this year," Melissa began, adding: "But absolutely none of that has been through choice. None of it. Like I'm back in my pre-pregnancy jeans." 'She added: "But there's no joy," noting: "I don't enjoy the fact that that's happened at all in the way that you know, that's like a goal for a lot of people. "A) It was never a goal for me. But B) this is the complete antithesis of whatever I've ever wanted with my body. "So that's been tricky for sure. And then also, just on top of that, like my skin and my hair has been like affected. "Now I'm dealing with feelings of, you know, not enjoying the way that I look, which is frustrating because I've done such a lot of work to get me to a place where." 5 Melissa has a mass following on social media and raises awareness of SIBO while promoting body confidence Credit: Instagram/@

Death in Paradise star 'wasn't ready' as she addresses heartbreaking exit

Sally Bretton has portrayed Humphrey Goodman's fiancée, Martha Lloyd, since 2017 Sally Bretton, famed for her stint as Martha Lloyd on the much-loved BBC series Death in Paradise and its spin-off Beyond Paradise, has admitted she wasn't quite ready to leave the sun-soaked detective drama behind in 2017. Taking on the role of the beloved detective Humphrey Goodman's fiancée (portrayed by Kris Marshall), Sally made her debut as Martha in 2017. Swiftly winning over audiences as she reignited a past romance with Humphrey, ultimately leading to his departure from Saint Marie for London, Sally made her debut as Martha in 2017. ‌ During an interview on This Morning, Sally openly expressed her willingness to have prolonged her time on the show. Addressing whether she was happy to wrap up filming in the Caribbean, Sally firmly replied: "No!" ‌ She elaborated, "I was only out there for four or five weeks. I didn't get any of the hurricanes; I got it at just the perfect time. I had an amazing time." As for what lies ahead for Martha in the spin-off Beyond Paradise, Sally gave viewers a glimpse into Martha and Humphrey's new life in Shipton Abbott, Devon, where they embark on fostering after their poignant IVF endeavours, reports the Express. Eagerly seizing the chance to step back into Martha's shoes for the BBC One spin-off, Sally recounted how the opportunity came up during a chat with This Morning hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary. "I was part of Kris' exit storyline from the Caribbean, and then we were in the first lockdown, and the phone rang," she told the duo. "I was like, 'Oh my God!'. Even if it doesn't happen, it was just three weeks of thinking about that while the world had stopped. It was to have something to sink my teeth into." ‌ The show also stars Open All Hours legend Barbara Flynn as Martha's mother, Anne, with Zahra Ahmadi featuring as Humphrey's workmate at Shipton Abbott's police force, the steadfast DS Esther Williams. Dylan Llewellyn and Felicity Montagu, Humphrey's fellow officers and mates, complete the ensemble. The third series of Beyond Paradise, which concluded earlier this year, saw Humphrey and Martha seemingly finding steadier ground as they progress with their fostering endeavours. However, the final episode ended in heartbreak as the had to say goodbye to their foster child, Rosie.

Zoe Ball set for new TV gig with dad Johnny and son Woody Cook

Ball returned to BBC Radio 2 in May after stepping down from her breakfast show in December 2024. She also hosted TV special VE Day 80: A Celebration to Remember on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on May 8. Scott Mills (left) replaced Zoe Ball (right) on BBC Radio 2's breakfast show. (Image: James Manning/PA Wire) Now it appears Ball has landed another TV role. The 54-year-old could be set to star on a new factual series about maths, created by her father Johnny Ball, according The Sun. The new show would tell the story behind 'the history of maths' and is based on the first six chapters of his book - Wonders Beyond Numbers. Zoe and Johnny Ball would team up to host the show along with Zoe's son Woody Cook. A post shared by Zoe Ball (@zoetheball) Johnny Ball, speaking to The Sun, said: 'The material can be honed down to the essentials, so that anyone could present it in a light and transparent way. 'This is why I believe myself, Zoe and my grandson Woody could add all what each age group requires to make it a fascinating and revealing series.' A channel for this untitled show is yet to be decided, with Johnny hoping to convince TV bosses to commission the series, admitting having Zoe on board is a 'big pull'. Zoe and son Woody have appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox before, but this would be the first time three generations of Ball have appeared on air together. Zoe Ball announced she was quitting her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show role in December last year, and was eventually replaced early in 2025 by Scott Mills. She had been in the role for six years, but said it was time to step away so she could "focus on family". Ball, at the time, added: "It's been a privilege. I think the world of you listeners and I'm grateful to my bosses here for their support, especially this year." It came after a tough 2024 for the radio presenter who was forced to take time away from BBC Radio 2 after her mother, Julia, was "heartbreakingly" diagnosed with cancer before succumbing to the disease in April. RECOMMENDED READING: However, Ball returned to Radio 2 on May 3 with a brand new show. She now goes to air once a week from 1pm to 3pm on Saturdays, having replaced Mark Goodier's Pick Of The Pops, which has moved to Sundays. You can listen to Zoe Ball every Saturday from 1pm to 3pm on BBC Radio 2.
