Bridgerton icon leads BAFTA-winning series as it returns with Peaky Blinders star
An award winning series featuring a Bridgerton icon and Peaky Blinders star is set to return to screens. Today Channel 4 has announced a brand-new story of the much loved drama anthology series I Am.
The latest instalment of the BAFTA-winning female-led drama will be titled I Am Helen. I Am Helen will be led by Bridgerton and Derry Girl's star Nicola Coughlan, opposite Joe Cole, who is known for Gangs of London and Peaky Blinders.
Nicola will follow the list of high profile names who have previously headlined the I Am series, including Kate Winslet in 2023. I Am Helen follows the standout success of three previous I Am series, authentically exploring the personal experiences of women through provocative, emotionally raw storytelling.
Since its debut in 2019, the series has quickly become Channel 4's most successful new 10pm drama and is praised for its emotionally raw story telling and strong female lead.
I Am Helen will air on Channel 4, though no official release date has been shared yet.
Nicola Coughlan said: 'It's an absolute honour to be part of telling the next I Am… story alongside Dominic Savage — a singular talent and a storyteller deeply committed to exploring the breadth of the female experience. To follow in the footsteps of the brilliant women who've collaborated with him on this series feels truly surreal, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be embarking on this journey.'
Since its first debut, the I Am anthology has become a hit with fans, as one person said: "Love the series! Very good acting and a refreshing, rare authentic representation of women on screen."
Another added: "Honestly the best show for every woman to watch. Possibly the only true representation of women I have ever seen."
Previous high profile names include Vicky McClure starring in I Am Nicola; Samantha Morton starring in the BAFTA nominated I Am Kirsty; and Gemma Chan starring in I Am Hannah. Series two was equally successful, starring Suranne Jones in the BAFTA nominated I Am Victoria, Letitia Wright in I Am Danielle and Lesley Manville in I Am Maria.
The latest instalment of the critically acclaimed anthology series is created, written, produced and directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Dominic Savage.

Singer Olly Alexander ‘knew' he would not win Eurovision in 2024
The 35-year-old performed his song Dizzy at the 2024 contest in Malmo, Sweden, and said he is glad he competed despite finishing 18th with 46 points, in an interview with Tatler. He said: 'Everyone said, 'you're going to bring it home, Olly', I knew I wouldn't. He said: 'You'd never give that advice now, and it was terrible advice then. I knew it was never really going to be an option for me, but it did feel like a fork-in-the-road moment.' But the former Years And Years singer said he had received much better advice from Dame Judi Dench, who he made his West End debut alongside in Peter And Alice. Alexander said: 'The best thing Judi Dench taught me was that you can be a legendary star and still be the most chill diva ever. 'She's always down for a laugh, she loves a naughty joke.' The singer released his debut solo album Polari in February this year, and has had a UK number one single with Years And Years in King, along with four other top 10 singles, while the pop band also had two number one albums. Alexander has also embarked on an acting career that has seen him appear in Channel 4 drama It's A Sin, make a cameo appearance in EastEnders, and perform in a number of stage roles. Gogglebox fan favourite couple Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle have released a heartfelt statement after they were brutally dumped from the Channel 4 show. The beloved duo, who hail from Glasgow, shocked social media on Monday evening when they announced they had been axed from the programme after three and a half years despite being one of the most popular couples among Gogglebox fans. Roisin, who celebrated her 27th birthday earlier this week, took to her social media accounts on Instagram and TikTok to announce the sad news that she and Joe, 28, had not made the cut for season 26. The pair have released an emotional joint statement following their departure. It reads: "After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa, Channel 4 have decided it's time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore we are leaving the Gogglebox family. We couldn't be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity, the experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching tv with you all on Friday nights! "It's been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don't actually need subtitles." Scottish couple 'dumped' from Gogglebox after three years
A Glasgow couple has been 'dumped' from Gogglebox after more than three years on the show. Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle confirmed on Tuesday that Channel 4 had not asked them back ahead of filming for season 26. The couple first made their debut in February 2022 and were the first Scottish cast members to join the show in six years. In a post shared on Instagram, Roisin said they 'couldn't be more grateful' for the opportunity. 'The experience has actually been so mad, and we will miss watching TV with you all on Friday nights', she added. They added that it was an honour to represent Scotland before joking they 'proved we don't actually need subtitles'.
