The Smurfs are doing an all-day takeover of the Brooklyn Children's Museum this weekend

Time Out09-07-2025
Blue is the warmest color—at least it will be on Sunday, July 13, when the Brooklyn Children's Museum goes full Smurf for a daylong bash that promises to be equal parts nostalgically wholesome and ridiculously cute.
In partnership with Paramount Pictures and just ahead of the July 18 release of Smurfs (featuring none other than Rihanna as Smurfette), the museum is hosting SMURFS Summer, an immersive, hands-on celebration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. that's part craft fair, part dance party, part scavenger hunt—and all Smurf.
Expect the museum to be absolutely swarming with tiny blue fans (and, we're guessing, quite a few big ones). Highlights include a rooftop dance and sing-along to the film's soundtrack, cyanotype art-making in the ColorLab studio and a STEM workshop on natural blue dyes in the Nature's Engineers makerspace. A transformation station will kit kids out with Smurf-y tattoos and props, while a museum-wide scavenger hunt dares them to rescue Papa Smurf and earn a prize.
Smurfette, Papa Smurf and No Name will be roaming for photo ops and themed giveaways like activity sheets and temporary tattoos are part of the fun. All activities are included with general museum admission ($15 for adults and kids, $14 for grandparents and free for children under a year old).
'Brooklyn is excited for SMURFS Summer,' said museum president and CEO Atiba T. Edwards. 'This is a great chance to introduce your little ones to those beloved characters and spend some quality, blue bonding time getting silly, creative and adventurous.'
And if you're feeling more than a little nostalgic? You're not alone. 'The Smurf spirit of constant creativity, tolerance, faith in the future and respect for others can be found throughout the Museum,' said Paramount's Jennifer Lynch. 'We can't wait to bring SMURFS Summer to this Crown Heights institution.'

John Krasinski to write, direct, produce 'A Quiet Place Part III'

John Krasinski is returning to direct, write and produce ' A Quiet Place Part III.' The film has been set for a July 9, 2027 theatrical release, Paramount Pictures said Friday. The first film, released in 2018, was a box-office smash, earning some $341 million worldwide on a budget of only $17 million. It also established Krasinski, who starred alongside his wife Emily Blunt in the post-apocalyptic horror, as a bankable filmmaker. He returned to write and direct 'A Quiet Place Part II," the release of which was delayed over a year due to the pandemic. The franchise also expanded to include a prequel, 'A Quiet Place: Day One.' Krasinski produced but handed over the reins to filmmaker Michael Sarnoski. In total, the three films have grossed over $892 million. Krasinski on Friday posted a graphic with the numeral 'III' and the release date on Instagram. No other details about cast or story were immediately available.

Rihanna in major career boost after axing London gigs following third pregnancy with partner ASAP Rocky

Scroll down to read more on Simon Pegg's todger and Drake's take on the Jet2 meme RI-START Rihanna in major career boost after axing London gigs following third pregnancy with partner ASAP Rocky WITH baby number three on the way, Rihanna could be forgiven for wanting to just put her feet up for the foreseeable. But after we revealed in March that she cancelled a string of live dates for this year, my insiders have told me her tour is now back on for next year. And the shows will see her performing in the UK for the first time in a decade. A source said: 'Rihanna pulled the plug just days before her 2025 tour was due to be announced. 'There ended up being issues with production and scheduling conflicts, plus she didn't feel like her music was ready. 'But Rihanna and her team are now confident they can make it work for next year. 'The dates will also coincide with the tenth anniversary of [her last album] Anti, and fans can expect to hear her new music too. 'Rihanna might be pregnant with her third baby but she is the ultimate working mum and has the support of her partner A$ap Rocky. 'It's going to be incredible for her fans and she can't wait to be back out on stage.' Before Rihanna dramatically pulled the plug on her shows this summer at the 11th hour, she had reserved six dates at the London Stadium for July. The decision to cull the shows means she now has time to make sure she is totally happy with her next album — and it gives her time to focus on her new baby. Dream come true Rihanna is one of the best-selling artists ever, with more than 250million records sold worldwide. Pregnant Rihanna's third baby's gender revealed as partner A$AP Rocky slips and leaks news on Smurfs red carpet As well as nine UK No1 singles, including We Found Love and Only Girl (In The World), she has built a huge beauty and cosmetics brand, Fenty Beauty. Being honest, it makes me feel tired just looking at what Ri-Ri juggles. To see her back on stage in the UK would be a dream come true for next year, especially after the incredible summer of music we're having right now. 7 Rihanna's UK tour is now back on for next year Credit: Getty Drake Jet jest DRAKE swaps private planes for budget airlines in a Jet2 meme that went viral. Original Naked Gun creator David Zucker gives brutal verdict on Liam Neeson reboot

The Naked Gun creator David Zucker has revealed he was unimpressed by the reboot starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, and has no plans to watch the movie David Zucker, the creator of the Naked Gun franchise, has no plans to watch the reboot featuring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, and it's not just because he wasn't impressed by the film's trailer. ‌ Zucker, who also directed the original 1980s police comedy, revealed that he wasn't snubbed from the reboot but was rather left out after Paramount Pictures decided to reject his script in favour of working with producer Seth MacFarlane. ‌ The Naked Gun, which first hit cinemas in 1988 starring Leslie Nielson, Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalban and O.J. Simpson, was a box office hit. It comes after Liam and Pamela fuelled romance rumours with a cryptic social media post. ‌ READ MORE: What is really going on with Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson after romance rumours The spoof-comedy was followed by two sequels in the 1990s. Zucker, along with his brother Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams (otherwise known as comedy trio ZAZ), was also the creative force behind the 1980 cult classic Airplane! and he went on to direct films in the Scary Movie franchise. "I wrote a whole script for Naked Gun 4 on spec for Paramount," Zucker shared with the Daily Mail. "I understand the studio's thinking to go with Seth MacFarlane. He's a proven commodity and Liam Neeson is a big star, but it's not a fresh idea." ‌ During the early stages of the reboot's development, Zucker said he was approached by MacFarlane – best known as the creator of the long-running animated series Family Guy – who praised his work and told Zucker he 'idolised' the original Naked Gun films. "I had a conversation with Seth and he spent 10 minutes just telling me how he idolized Naked Gun, Airplane, Top Secret," he said. "How can you be mad at anybody who tells you how great you are? But it's not enough to be a fan…The guy at my dry cleaners is a big fan, but it doesn't mean he can do Naked Gun." The original Naked Gun film, based on the short-lived ABC series Police Squad! starred Nielsen as police detective Frank Drebin, as his character directly spoofed the widely popular crime dramas of the era. Following its release in December 1988, the film raked in $152.4 million on a budget of $12 million. In 1991, the sequel The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear was released followed by Naked Gun 33+1⁄3: The Final Insult in 1994. ‌ In the reboot released this Friday, Neeson portrays bumbling cop Frank Drebin Jr. – who has followed his father's footsteps into law enforcement – while Anderson stars as femme fatale Beth Davenport. Former Saturday Night Live writer and The Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer directed the remake, and also served as co-writer alongside Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. Zucker criticised the 2025 version for sticking to the same old formula, with similar gags as the first instalment. He highlighted one particular joke in the film, when Anderson's Beth is instructed to 'take a chair' when she arrives in Drebin's office, to which she replies: "No thank you, I have plenty of chairs at home." "We gave up doing those jokes 40 years ago in Police Squad," Zucker quipped before questioning Neeson's casting. OJ… he didn't need to be funny. And even Leslie Nielsen doesn't need to be funny. He just had to be a B movie actor. That's what we did... We didn't pretend to cast Lawrence Olivier or even Al Pacino, but Liam Neeson, for example, he's like Oscar quality. I think he may have won for Schindler's List. So I mean, what's he making fun of?" Sadly, this isn't the first occasion Zucker has been sidelined by Paramount Pictures during the early development of one of his films for a remake; he was also excluded from the 1982 follow-up Airplane II, which was penned and helmed by Ken Finkleman. The follow-up was slated by critics and managed just $27.2 million in the United States and Canada, whilst the original raked in $83 million at the box office.
