Major Emmerdale legend set to return - and it's good news for fans
Samantha Giles has played Bernice on and off from 1998. The character is the biological mother of Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), and was often involved in light-hearted storylines to contrast the ongoing drama in the village.
In November 2023, Bernice's sister Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) discovered that she had been buying things in her name.
With Bernice drowning in debt, she attempted to run away and leave her family to pick up the pieces, but Gabby helped her realise that putting things right and facing her problems would be best.
To pay off the debt, Bernice gave Nicola her shares in the B&B. She then left the Dales for Portugal to visit Diane (Elizabeth Estensen).
Bernice is reportedly heading back to the Dales ahead of Gabby and Vinny Dingle's (Bradley Johnson) wedding. According to The Sun, Samantha is due to start filming in a couple of weeks.
'Everything is being kept very hush hush but of course Bernice's return is a big deal as one of the soap's most loved characters', a source told the publication.
'And Samantha being back among the cast is a real win too, as everyone loves working with her.' More Trending

Emily wore the strapless, knee-length designer number as she posed next to a seated Danny. The pair, who first worked together on the hit drama Rivals, looked focused in the promo shots inside a stately-looking dining room. Danny also looked quite dapper in a dark velour suit and imposing mustache. The pair are hosting Nobody's Fool which is a quiz show that is not determined by how smart a contestant is, but rather how smart the other contestants think they are. 'It's so exciting to be part of something this new and fresh," Emily said of her new hosting gig. "The chance to work with Danny again was a no brainer for me. We had such a laugh. Can't wait for everyone to watch, it's an absolute must see.' As part of the show, ten contestants from across the UK will compete on the show, where they'll be required to stay in a unique and mischievous 'Smart House', and will compete in challenges to convince others that they are more intelligent than they may actually be. They'll also take part in daily individual quizzes that will test different areas of intelligence in order to build a group prize pot. But in a surprising twist, only the contestants themselves will know how well they have done and then will decide what information they choose to share with their competitors. "This is a blinder of a game show and unlike anything I've seen before," Danny said. A TV insider told The Sun: 'Rivals is the story of a web of rival individuals which is spun around a stately house, Penscombe Court, and their efforts to constantly outdo one another. Billi, meanwhile, who shares three kids with the National League star - and also looks after his two children from a previous relationship - is currently in Majorca with her brood. It comes as the mum-of-three shared a sizzling bikini snap in Spain taken by the former couple's daughter, Marve l. Giving her take on Andy's antics, Ulrika fumed in her column for The Sun:"I have been watching the Andy Carroll/Billi Mucklow split unfold over the past months and it has quietly infuriated me. "Before you knew it, Carroll and his new flame, Lou Teasdale of influencer fame, were posing up a storm on social media draped all over each other; tongues down each other's throats (yes, literally). "Forever holidaying like love's young dream. It's been beach trip after festival after party. Their summer of love has been so relentless, I'm exhausted just watching them. "Meanwhile, Billi is at home with the three children she shares with Carroll and the two children he has from a previous relationship. She's been going about her business quietly, diligently, with unwavering dignity. Choosing to put the children first." After dating for a year, it was reported last week that Andy had dumped mum-of-one, Lou, after growing tired of her high maintenance behaviour. The couple unfollowed each other from social media and the footballer even went as far as to erase all trace of his girlfriend from his Instagram account. However, according to the Daily Mail, it was the other way round, reporting that Lou was the one to call time on their romance. Andy has since set the record straight and vowed to cut down on alcohol in a bid to save his relationship with Lou after boozy rows, as he confirmed the pair are trying 'to work through their difficulties', insisting that he 'loves Lou and her family'. Since their reunion, the couple have resumed their trademark snogging snaps. However, Billi looks like she couldn't care less in her recent posts as she enjoys her holiday in the sun with her family.
