UN envoy briefs HCS on political roadmap
The head of the High Council of State (HCS), Mohamed Takala, met UN Envoy Hanna Tetteh in Tripoli on Monday to discuss a proposed roadmap aimed at breaking the country's political stalemate. The meeting, held at the council's headquarters, was attended by the council's first and second deputy heads as well as members Hassan Habib, Moussa Faraj and Belkacem Debrez. According to the council's official page, Tetteh outlined key elements of the plan she intends to present to the UN Security Council on 21 August. UN envoy outlines plan to revive Libya's stalled political process
The UN's top official in Libya has presented Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah with a plan aimed at breaking the country's political deadlock and paving the way for long-delayed elections. Hanna Tetteh, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative, met PM Dbeibah in Tripoli on Sunday to brief him on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya's (UNSMIL) strategy for fostering dialogue between rival factions. According to the prime minister's office, the plan seeks to end the country's protracted transitional period by establishing a firm legal and constitutional framework for holding free and transparent elections. Both sides stressed the need to rally support from Libyan political actors as well as regional and international partners to create a stable environment for the vote. Dbeibah said his government remained committed to supporting any dialogue process that promoted stability and broadened national participation.
