‘Ghich Pich' review: A familiar fathers-and-sons tale

Scroll.in4 days ago
Ankur Singal's Ghich Pich explores a dynamic as vexed as it is familiar: the relationship between fathers and their young sons. Singal's debut feature, which is out in cinemas, revolves around three teenagers navigating love, academics and personal identity.
The Hindi-Punjabi film is set in Chandigarh in 2001. We're in the age of blank calls over fixed landlines and love letters written in fake blood. Boys on the verge of becoming men find their paths blocked by the men in their lives.
Anurag (Aryan Rana) is being pushed by his hard-driving father Naresh (Satyajit Sharma) to excel at his studies. Naresh keeps hectoring Anurag on the importance of personal sacrifice, harsh advice that Anurag struggles to process.
Sikh teenager Gurpreet (Kabir Nanda) has fallen for the non-Sikh Ashima (Mia Magar). Gurpreet comes to believe that Ashima will reciprocate his feelings if he cuts off his hair and stops wearing a turban – an idea that saddens his devout father Lakhpal (Nishan Cheema).
Gaurav (Shhivam Kakar) seems to have the most stable equation with his father Rakesh (Nitesh Pandey) until he stumbles upon Rakesh's secret. Gaurav goes into a funk, much to Rakesh's distress.
Ghich Pich – the title suggests the emotional logjam experienced by its characters – strikes a balance between individual freedom and traditional values. A heavily saturated colour palette adds a tinge of nostalgia to the proceedings. Although Chandigarh's vistas and landmarks are in the background, there's little to root in the story in this particular city.
Without anything earth-shatteringly different to add to the typical coming-of-age story, and lacking the raw honesty of Vikramaditya Motwane's Udaan (2010) – a clear influence – Ghich Pich ambles along pleasantly. The performances are heartfelt, especially by the young actors.
Singla's episodic screenplay devotes equal time to each of the three sub-plots, an approach that does Gaurav's track the most disservice. The resolution of Gaurav's problem is too pat, just as the other two dilemmas are resolved too easily.

Coolie vs War 2 advance booking: Rajinikanth's film sells 500% more tickets than Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's film

Coolie vs War 2 advance booking: This week is set to witness a massive box office clash, with Rajinikanth's much-awaited film Coolie releasing on the same day as Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2. With advance bookings for both films now underway, the competition has grown even more fierce. For now, Coolie holds the lead in advance booking sales. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, War 2 has secured more screens than Coolie across India. While Rajinikanth's Coolie has 7,338 shows pan-India, War 2 will be screened at 8,510 shows, as of 9 am, 12 August. Despite leading with a larger number of shows, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2 has sold 1,26,287 tickets in advance booking sales for day 1. Comparatively better, Coolie has sold a whopping 8,35,850 tickets for day 1, which is about 561.7% more than the YRF's spy-thriller. Coolie is likely to have a bigger opening day business than War 2. However, there's still time for Hrithik and Jr NTR's film to catch up with Coolie's numbers. In terms of revenue, War 2 has raked in ₹ 4.11 crore from advance booking sales for its release day. Considering the blocked seats, it is set to premiere with a business of ₹ 8.54 crore. On the other hand, Rajinikanth's Coolie has minted ₹ 17.72 crore alone from day 1 advance booking, which is already higher than the total estimated business of War 2. Considering blocked seats, Coolie is eyeing a debut with ₹ 24.28 crore, which is an impressive figure. War 2 will release in Hindi (across 2D, IMAX, DOLBY, 4DX, and other formats), Tamil (2D), and Telugu (2D, 4DX). Coolie will release originally in Tamil with dubbed versions in Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada languages, in 2D formats. While the Hindi 2D format of War 2 leads with the highest number of Day 1 tickets sold, Coolie has recorded the maximum sales among its Tamil audience. War 2 is directed by Ayan Mukerji. It stars Hrithik, Jr NTR alongside Kiara Advani. The film marks Jr NTR's Bollywood debut. War 2 was passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A 16+ certificate. It has a runtime of 2 hours and 50 minutes. Coolie is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It features Rajinikanth with Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, and Aamir Khan. It has been certified 'A' by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It has a runtime of 2 hours and 48 minutes. Both are releasing on 14 August.

Nidhhi Agerwal Denies Asking For Andhra Pradesh Government Vehicle After Viral Video

Actress Nidhhi Agerwal faced backlash for using an Andhra Pradesh government car during a Bhimavaram visit. She clarified no officials were involved in providing the vehicle. Actress Nidhhi Agerwal recently found herself at the center of an unexpected controversy after a video showing her travelling in an Andhra Pradesh government car went viral. Visiting Bhimavaram for a store launch, she faced criticism and speculation about how the government vehicle came to be used during her trip. Nidhhi has now personally addressed the situation, explaining that she had no role in arranging the car and that the decision was entirely handled by the event organisers. The actress explained that the local event organisers arranged transportation for her during the store launch event in Bhimavaram. 'I would like to address and clarify certain speculations circulating on social media regarding my recent visit to Bhimavaram for a store launch event," she said. 'During the event, the local organisers arranged transportation for me, which happened to be a vehicle belonging to the Andhra Pradesh government. I wish to clearly state that I had no role in requesting this vehicle, it was provided solely by the event organisers for logistical purposes." Responding to online reports suggesting that government officials had directly provided the car, Agerwal firmly rejected such claims. She described these as 'completely baseless" and reiterated that she had no connection with government authorities in this matter. 'I deeply value my audience, and it is important to clarify my truth so that no misinformation is carried forward. I am grateful to my fans and well-wishers for their constant love and support," her statement added. హీరోయిన్ నిధి అగర్వాల్‌కు ప్రభుత్వ వాహనంఇటీవల విజయవాడ నగరంలో ప్రభుత్వ వాహనంలో తిరుగుతూ సందడి చేసిన నిధి అగర్వాల్ సినిమా తారలకు ప్రభుత్వ వాహనాలు ఎలా కేటాయిస్తారంటూ ప్రశ్నిస్తున్న ప్రజలు — Telugu Scribe (@TeluguScribe) August 11, 2025 Nidhhi Agerwal's career Nidhhi Agerwal is an actress primarily working across Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi cinema.
