Kilmarnock duo shortlisted for prestigious SFWA Young Player of the Year award

Kilmarnock's Scotland under-21 pair Bobby Wales and David Watson have been shortlisted for the Scottish Football Writers' Association Young Player of the Year award.
The duo have impressed this term and have made the four-man shortlist alongside Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller and Hearts striker James Wilson.

Wales looks set to bring his time at Kilmarnock to an end after being offered a four-year deal by Swansea City with the 19-year-old out of contract in the summer. He's bagged five goals in 32 appearances this term, including a wonderful first touch and finish against St Johnstone to win the Goal of the Month award in February.

His club and international team-mate Watson is the reigning holder of the title but hasn't perhaps quite hit the same heights as last term.
The winner will be announced on Sunday, May 18.

Nicolas Raskin returns as Rangers team to face Viktoria Plzen named

Rangers head coach Russell Martin has named his side to face Viktoria Plzen, with Nicolas Raskin returning to the starting line-up. Raskin was dropped after the 1-1 draw with Motherwell on the first day of the league season and has only featured as a substitute since. Martin has brought the Belgian back for the crucial match in the Czech Republic, as Joe Rothwell drops to the bench, with James Tavernier also coming in to replace Max Aarons. Rangers took one step towards a play-off against RB Salzburg or Club Brugge with a 3-0 home win last Tuesday. Djeidi Gassama's double, either side of Cyriel Dessers' penalty, put Rangers in the driving seat but Martin insists the job is far from done and his side will face a tough test in the Doosan Arena. Rangers start with Jack Butland in goal behind a back four of captain James Tavernier, John Souttar, Nasser Djiga and Jefte. Raskin is part of a midfield trio with Mohamed Diomande and Lyall Cameron, while Gassama and Oliver Antman are in the wide positions either side of striker Cyriel Dessers Get all the latest news from around the country Follow STV News Scan the QR code on your mobile device for all the latest news from around the country

Motherwell fans back 'massive talent' Miller to 'blossom' in Serie A

We asked for your views on Lennon Miller after the Motherwell midfielder flew to Italy for a medical prior to a reported move to what some of you said: Stuart: I am delighted to see Lennon spread his wings and move abroad. Italy has proven to be a positive place for several Scots. Also delighted he's not moved to either Old Firm. Decent fee and hopefully we have put a sell-on clause in there Fantastic move for Miller. Playing in Serie A can only benefit his progression as I believe he will still play a lot of first-team football. He's a massive talent and with the right move at this stage in his career it can only benefit him and the Scotland national team. Wish him every Although sorry to see Lennon go I wish him all the best. He has been a real asset to the club. He is an outstanding player with an instinctive talent for football and it has been a joy to watch him play. Hopefully, he will continue to blossom at his new club and the Scotland squad. Good luck!Gary: It's a great move for the lad, he follows great Scottish talent heading out to play in Serie A and will grow as a player. Glad the saga is over from a Motherwell perspective, we can now look to invest the funds back into giving Jens Berthel Askou attacking options. Top six is back on!Ross: Miller is a fantastic talent and will go far in the game if he keeps his head down and concentrates on his football. It's also clear to me that he has a supportive family behind him with experience that will help him. I'm happy for him to make a move up the ladder so long as his value is met and the club benefits Miller has been a godsend to Motherwell and we will miss his presence around Fir Park. He's been class since the moment he played and was amazing with my children as well, always happy for photos and autographs and the fame never bothered him, he just wanted to play football. So gutted he is going but great to see him progress in his career. Thank you Lennon.

Hearts ran riot in a closed-door friendly against Ross County at Riccarton this afternoon as Elton Kabangu claimed a hat-trick in a 9-1 victory. Recent signings Tomas Magnusson and Pierre Landry Kabore also found the net in the game, which was designed to give players game time in between competitive fixtures. Kabangu scored three times in the first half to stake his claim for more first-team action. The Belgian forward was an unsused substitute in Hearts' opening Premiership wins against Aberdeen and Dundee United and wants to play more. Alexandros Kyziridis, James Wilson and Alan Forrest also scored for the hosts, with James Scott getting County's consolation strike. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hearts won their opening two league matches but used this game to give some players vital match action. They started with Ryan Fulton in goal, and a defence of Adam Forrester, Michael Steinwender, Kenxzi Nair and Stephen Kingsley. In midfielder, Sander Kartum, Beni Baningime, Magnusson and Kyziridis lined up, with Kabore and Kabangu in attack. Substitutes who entered the fray at half-time were Sabah Kerjota, Wilson and Forrest. Calem Nieuwenhof came on for the final 30 minutes after a spell out injured. The comfortable victory will please Riccarton coaches, although the game time is more important for players as Hearts seek to manage their large first-team squad. More to follow....
