Bo Nix's situation 'entirely different' going into 2nd season
New year, new Bo?
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix earned an invite to the Pro Bowl as an alternate last year after surpassing 4,200 yards from scrimmage and scoring 34 touchdowns as a rookie. Nix struggled early, but once he adjusted to the pro game, the QB looked sharp and helped the Broncos qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
Now, with 17 games in the NFL under his belt, Nix's command of the offense is at a different level.
'It's a lot different," Broncos coach Sean Payton said last Thursday when asked what's different with Nix going into his second season. "We don't use that term, 'Pick up where we left off,' but just the processing [and] understanding of what we're doing in and out of the huddle. These three days — as you're watching each decision, [the throws are] where you want the ball to go. I think it's entirely different.'
Nix has a better grasp of the offense, and it's clear that he's no longer a rookie. DNVR's Zac Stevens observed at last week's open practice that Nix was coaching up teammates more often than he did in 2024.
"I feel like I'm a lot further [along]," Nix said last week. "Just spitting out play calls a lot easier and just processing. ... It's a lot better and a lot more enjoyable not thinking right now as opposed to what I was doing last year. It's fun, it's fun to be in the know and it's fun to have a little more of an understanding of what's going on so I can be a little more beneficial to others and help them out along the way."
Nix later noted that, unlike last year, when he gets to the line of scrimmage now, he's looking at the defense and processing and reacting to them instead of thinking about the offensive play or his footwork or a motion. His offensive responsibilities are second nature now, allowing him to focus on attacking the defense on each play.
"I feel good," Nix said. "We're in a good spot.'

Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle delves into OTAs vibe amid team's trade rumors

Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle delves into OTAs vibe amid team's trade rumors Despite trade rumors swirling around two of Miami's best players, Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle sounded unfazed by all of it on Tuesday. "Pretty regular, everybody that's here is working," Waddle said of the vibe in Miami Gardens during OTAs. "We do know that it's a business and people be having different business things going on. We've been solid, keeping the main thing, the main thing, and just working, man." Along with seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith has been linked to trade talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As star receiver Tyreek Hill is still recovering from a surgical repair to his wrist, that injury recovery and Smith's potential trade situation has removed two key offensive weapons during OTAs. Waddle discussed how he approaches practices minus that duo. "I approach it as any other day. I don't think it really matters so much of who's on the field, who's not on the field. Just go out there and work man. Approach it, I'm trying to get better each and every day, trying to make the other side better each and every day. It's not really a different approach. I think our just overall offensive approach this offseason has been pretty good," Waddle said. Waddle is coming off a 2024 season where he finished with career-lows in catches (58), yards (744) and touchdowns (2). The 2021 first-round NFL draft pick out of Alabama signed a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension ahead of last season. But, given how last season played out for both the Dolphins as a team and for Waddle individually, it's not surprising to see him locked in regardless of what contract and trade situations might be unfolding around him.

HC Mike Elko is highly confident in Texas A&M's veteran 2025 offensive line

HC Mike Elko is highly confident in Texas A&M's veteran 2025 offensive line During Mike Elko's assistant coaching career, which included his three year stint as Texas A&M's defensive coordinator (2018-2021), he experienced one of the Aggies' best seasons since the memorable 2012 campaign during the 9-1 2020 COVID-inflicted season, which included an elite performance from Texas A&M's offensive line. Throughout the offseason, included during Wednesday's Houston Coach's Night, Elko has continued to emphasize Texas A&M's veteran offensive line that includes every returning starter from the start of the 2024 season, including center Mark Nabou, who missed the season's entirety after an early lower body injury. Elko also mentioned Texas A&M's deep running back room, headlined by senior back Le'Veon Moss. "If you think back to the core of the 2020 football team, the offensive line is where it all started. We bring back all four tailbacks. That is not something you see all the time." This group's size, experience, and NFL potential, especially left tackle Trey Zuhn, left guard Chase Bisontis, and right guard Ar'maj Reed-Adams, are considered some of the best at their positions, and will provide a significant impact in both pass pro and run blocking. For starting quarterback Marcel Reed, his success starts in the trenches, as the redshirt sophomore looks to improve as a pocket passer, which is vital if the Aggies plan to make it through their tough schedule and earn the program's first College Football Playoff berth. The running game will be emphasized, which is a staple of OC Collin Klein's scheme, but know that when opposing defenses shut down the run game, Marcel Reed will be looked at to take full control from the pocket and deliver strikes down the field, and will solid pass protection, Elko is confident that his starting signal caller can get the job done if the line holds up.
