Loke: Don't pressure Anwar over ministers' resignations, Tengku Zafrul joining PKR isn't DAP's business
SEREMBAN, June 1 — All parties are urged not to put pressure on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following the resignation of two ministers from the Cabinet recently, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said the Prime Minister will make a decision based on thorough consideration and at his discretion, in the best interest of the country.
'The appointment of ministers is the jurisdiction and prerogative of the Prime Minister... I am confident that he will act wisely in this matter and will take various factors into account in filling any vacancies. So far, there are no vacancies.
'As stated by the PM, he only approved the leave for both ministers. So far, they still hold their positions, (they are) just on leave,' he told reporters after attending a Hi-Tea event with 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) top achievers in Negeri Sembilan here yesterday.
On Wednesday (May 28), Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad were reported to have resigned from the Cabinet, effective June 17 and July 4 respectively, after losing in the 2025 PKR party elections.
Rafizi failed to defend his post as PKR deputy president after losing to Nurul Izzah Anwar while Nik Nazmi lost in the race for vice-presidency.
The Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that Anwar had received letters from the two ministers requesting leave and tendering their resignations from the Cabinet posts.
The statement also confirmed that Anwar had approved their leave requests, and that any further decisions would be communicated by the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Loke, who is also the Seremban Member of Parliament, said that DAP would not interfere in the internal affairs of any party, including component parties.
'The issue of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz quitting UMNO and applying to join PKR is also not our party's business. So, I'm taking the approach that if it does not involve my party, I will not comment.
'DAP members also know that and have not made any statements. I do not encourage anyone to make the situation worse if the issue involves component parties... if there is an appointment or vacancy, that is their business,' he said.
On Friday, Tengku Zafrul, who is Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, announced his resignation as a UMNO Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member. — Bernama

Three MPs seek to join proceedings involving Anwar as observers
KUALA LUMPUR: Three members of parliament have applied to the High Court for permission to join proceedings involving Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's bid to refer eight legal questions to the Federal Court. The questions include whether Anwar has immunity from a civil suit filed against him four years ago by his former research assistant, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther. Anwar, who is the Tambun member of Parliament, filed to have the questions referred to the Federal Court and to postpone the main trial until the apex court delivers a decision. The High Court is scheduled to hear this application tomorrow before Judge Roz Mawar Rozain. The three applicants, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut), Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (PN-Kemaman, and Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran), submitted their request via e-filing yesterday to be allowed to attend the hearing as observing counsel. Their application, filed under Order 92(4) of the Rules of Court 2012, Article 128(2) of the Federal Constitution, and Section 84 of the Courts of Judicature Act 1964, argues that they have a vested interest in the matter as members of parliament. According to legal firm Wan Jawahir & Takiyuddin, acting for the trio, the legal questions raised, particularly Articles 39, 40, 43, and 128(2) of the Federal Constitution, are of public importance and may influence parliamentary debates and public discourse. Don't jump the gun, Kedah Umno told over call to review PH pact

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A Pakatan Harapan leader has urged Kedah Umno not to jump the gun by urging Barisan Nasional to review its pact with PH if Tengku Zafrul Aziz becomes a PKR member. Kedah PH deputy chief Nor Azrina Surip said the state Umno leadership should just leave it to the central leadership of both coalitions to resolve the matter harmoniously. 'We're better off leaving it to the federal leadership while those of us at the state level remain in the spirit of unity,' the Kedah PKR chief told FMT. Azrina, a member of PKR's central leadership council, said the leaders of both coalitions in Kedah should focus on improving their cooperation in preparation for the next general election. '(PKR) heeds the views of our allies in the unity government, including the concerns raised by Kedah Umno leaders,' said the former MP. Tengku Zafrul announced his exit from Umno on Friday and said he intends to join PKR. This led to calls for his resignation from his Cabinet post as well as for PKR not to accept him into the party. Kedah Umno communications director Syed Johan Rizal Syed Unan Mashri had urged BN to review its alliance with PH if Tengku Zafrul becomes a PKR member. He said it would be akin to 'stealing' an Umno leader, drawing comparisons with others defecting to Bersatu in the past.
