Denver Broncos WR Marvin Mims Jr.: 'The Times Are Changing For Us'

Fox Sports09-07-2025
The vibes are high for the Denver Broncos after making their first playoff appearance since winning Super Bowl 50. And, on that note, Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. thinks there's a next gear on tap for them.
"You can kind of feel throughout the locker room that everyone's hungry, especially the guys who were here and played in Buffalo last year and got a taste of the playoffs. They know what it's like, know what it takes to get there. Then we bring in [Talanoa] Hufanga and Dre Greenlaw, Evan Engram. We bring in some more guys. … You can really feel that the times are changing for us," Mims said in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday.
"People always like to say a 'win-now' mode. With the way things went last year, we were projected to be last in the league last year and end up making the wild card. Guys that were here last year, they believe. The guys that are coming in, they want to make an impact, too. I think everyone's hungry."
The Broncos finished 10-7 and earned a wild-card berth before losing to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC wild-card round, 31-7.
Mims, who Denver selected with the No. 63 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma, has returned punts but also kicks over his first two seasons. Leading the NFL with 15.7 yards per punt return in 2024 and averaging 26.9 yards per kick return — including a 99-yard touchdown in 2023 — for his career has primarily helped Mims earn a Pro Bowl nod in both years.
As a receiver, Mims totaled 39 receptions for 503 yards and six touchdowns last season, earning an All-Pro honor. He ranked 51st among wide receivers with a 70.9 overall grade, according to Pro Football Focus. The year prior, Mims averaged 17.1 yards per reception. Granted, he had just 22 receptions on 33 targets.
Optimism around Denver is mostly centered around second-year quarterback Bo Nix, who threw for 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns in his 2024 rookie campaign. Mims is part of a wide receiver room that includes Courtland Sutton, Devaughn Vele, Troy Franklin and third-round draft pick Pat Bryant, among others.
As for Denver's offseason acquisitions, the aforementioned Hufanga, a 2022 All-Pro, and Greenlaw, who totaled 100-plus combined tackles in both 2022 and 2023, join a defense that was first in the NFL in sacks (63.0), third in opponent points (18.3 per game) and seventh in opponent total yards (317.1 per game) last season. Meanwhile, Engram totaled 114 receptions with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023, earning a Pro Bowl nod.
As for the 2025 NFL Draft as a whole, Denver selected Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron with the No. 20 pick and UCF running back RJ Harvey at pick No. 60.
"I feel like we're really poised, and we're really level-headed this year and that we're going to make something happen as long as we just keep it going on each other and just strive to get there," Mims said.
Mims and the Broncos open the 2025 regular season at home against No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 7 (4:05 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app).

Jaguars' Cam Little hits a 70-yard field goal in an exhibition game against the Steelers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville's Cam Little made a 70-yard field goal to end the first half against Pittsburgh in a preseason game on Saturday night, a kick that would have broken the NFL record had it happened during the regular season. Little and the Jaguars celebrated widely as the half ended with the Steelers leading 14-9. Rookie sensation Travis Hunter was one of the first to greet him on the field, body-bumped each other in midair. Baltimore's Justin Tucker holds the NFL mark, having made a 66-yarder at Detroit in 2021. Little, a sixth-round draft pick from Arkansas in 2024, made 27 of 29 field-goal attempts as a rookie and all 27 extra points. His long was 59 yards. He seemed to know his latest one was good from the onset. He watched intently and pumped his fist as it slid a little left and cleared the crossbar by several yards — far enough that the ball boy caught it in the air. ___ AP NFL:

Jaguars kicker Cam Little hits 70-yard field goal in preseason: 'Holy smokes'

Cam Little was weeks off from history, not yards, when he closed the first half of the Jacksonville Jaguars' preseason opener with a kick the NFL has never seen. On the final play of the second quarter, the Jaguars kicker drilled a 70-yard field goal to cut the Pittsburgh Steelers' lead to 14-9. He was immediately mobbed by teammates before heading to the locker room. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] "Holy smokes, they got a shot," the broadcaster said as the kick sailed through the air. The longest kick in NFL history belongs to former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, who made a 66-yard kick against the Detroit Lions in 2021. Little's kick beat that mark by four yards, but doesn't count because he did it in preseason. Still, consider Little a kicker to watch this season, because the Jaguars might act accordingly now that he's shown he can do it. The Jaguars drafted Little in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He enjoyed a successful rookie season last year, going 27-for-29 on field goals with a long of 59 yards. He was also perfect on 27 extra point attempts and forced a touchback on 85.5% of kickoffs.

Jamal Adams humbled by long injury recovery 'grateful just to get the call' from Raiders

Four years ago Jamal Adams was at the top of the NFL world. Coming off three straight Pro Bowls and an energetic leader on a tough Seattle defense. Then in the first game of the 2022 season, he suffered a serious injury, one that lingered and threatened to end his career. 'Tore my quad tendon off my kneecap. That's a two and a half year recovery they say," Adams said of his injury. "Mentality wise as a competitor, I was like 'I'm gonna get back in a year, which I did in 2023, but obviously I just couldn't be myself. I couldn't really practice the way I wanted to. But mentally it was definitely draining. Having to sit down when I didn't want to sit down. . . "Man, so many times just driving to the games, knowing that I'm not going to be able to be myself and mentally you check out as a competitor. It's tough because the other team knows that you're kind of beat up or injured and you can't put your best foot forward. Again, I'm just grateful for the opportunity.' Last season, he had fallen to appearing in just a handful of games for two different clubs. And with days until the start of NFL training camps, was still unsigned. A forgotten man. Then his old head coach gave him a call with an offer. Carroll wanted him to join the Raiders. And he wanted him to switch to linebacker. Something Adams may not have been keen on a few years ago. But if it meant a chance to salvage his career, he was absolutely open to it. Just to get a shot to play football again after the rest of the league had given him up for dead. 'Honestly, I'm grateful just to get the call," Adams said of his shot with the Raiders. "Any opportunity that's thrown at me in life, I'm going to take advantage of it. You find out a lot about yourself when your back is against the wall, you know what I mean? For me having to sit down for a whole year to really scan my whole career, scan life, relationships with my family, my friends, so much I had to go through mentally to sharpen my iron. Again, I'm just grateful to be back out there on the grass and to do what I do. It's been a long time coming. You guys got a glimpse of it this past game.' Adams added that he is "definitely back to who I am" and it showed in Thursday night's preseason opener in Seattle. He played about a quarter, making several big tackles and flying to the ball, which made a strong impression on Pete Carroll. And after he left the game, there was no one more excited and having more fun being part of a team than he is. "I'm having a lot more fun than what I was in previous years just due to injuries," Adams continued. it was obvious just how happy he was to be back and feeling good again. He said the long journey was "humbling" and helped him gain perspective. All of which ultimately led to this moment and has him all the more appreciative of it. 'Through life everybody's going to face adversity and opposition," Adams added. "It's gonna come, no matter who you are, no matter how much money you make, it's eventually going to come. You're never prepared for it. It's not how you start, it's how you finish. When you learn through situations of life, it's trial and error. Again, I'm super, super grateful just to be back in the NFL doing what I do."
