Foxx's acceptance speech became the emotional centerpiece of the night. Introduced by Stevie Wonder, he reflected on surviving a terrifying health crisis in April 2023, when a brain bleed left him in a coma. With raw emotion, Foxx told the audience, 'When I saw the 'In Memoriam' [portion of the awards show], I was like, man, that could have been me.'

'The Icon Award is the most important award because it comes from us.'
His heartfelt words were followed by a medley tribute featuring Jennifer Hudson, Babyface, T-Pain, and others.
