My ex never wanted to get married — when we broke up, he got engaged
Leaving her iPhone on a curb while she films an outfit check for a TikTok, Kendra reveals that shortly after they called it quits, her anti-marriage ex ended up getting engaged to the girl she was always 'suspicious' about.
A similar story is being played out in Lena Dunham's new Netflix series, Too Much. Starring Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe, the main character, Jessica, sees her seven-year relationship end after her boyfriend refuses to commit. Marriage just isn't his thing – or so she thought.
Naturally, a few months later, he's engaged to influencer Wendy Jones, played by Emily Ratajkowski.
The scenario feels especially cruel. A romance ends because your partner wants different things to you – only you soon find out that your desires were aligned, they just wanted that future with someone else.

Others have taken to the internet to share similar experiences. On Reddit, @ForeverNomad16 shared how she split with her fiancé after a nine-year engagement. 'He admitted he never wanted to get married and only proposed out of the fear of losing me,' she explains.

But, she later found out that he had, in fact, got hitched. 'Why couldn't he commit to me?' she asked Reddit.
In 2004, Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, part of the writing team behind Sex and The City, penned their own book, He's Just Not That Into You. The now-famous relationship bible theorised that any man who insists that they have 'issues' with marriage would, one day, end up married. Just not to you.
'Every man you have ever dated who has said he doesn't want to get married or doesn't believe in marriage, or has 'issues' with marriage, will, rest assured, someday be married,' the pair explain.
'It just will never be with you. Because he's not really saying he doesn't want to get married. He's saying he doesn't want to get married to you .'
The same idea ended up on-screen in Sex and The City, with Miranda Hobbes presenting the 'cab light theory.'
When he's not ready to settle down, his taxi light is off – but all of a sudden, it'll switch right on, available for whichever woman he happens to be with at that time. And if it's not you, that's too bad. In Miranda's view, it's 'not fate, it's dumb luck.'
Of course, marriage isn't for everyone. For some, it's a heteronormative, sexist institution – and you can, of course, love someone deeply without saying 'I do'.
But if they've been telling you it's a no-no, only for you to split up and spot their wedding snaps on Instagram, how are you meant to make sense of it all?
It's never an easy pill to swallow seeing your ex move on so quickly – least of all get engaged when it's the one thing they were never able to give you. You might blame yourself or wonder whether their new partner has something that you don't.
But as Lovehoney's sex and relationship expert Annabelle Knight says, the truth is that tying the knot with someone who isn't you, is never about you.
'It's more about timing, maturity, and their own internal journey. People change, and sometimes a breakup forces them to re-evaluate what they want in life,' she shares. More Trending
'It doesn't mean your relationship was meaningless – it means something for where they were at the time. Take it as a sign to be with someone who matches your values and life goals now , not someone you have to convince to grow with you.'
And what happens if you're in a relationship, and you're worried that the cab light theory might play out with you in the future? Happn's dating expert Claire Rénier says you need to be open not just with them, but with yourself, too.
'Have open conversations, think about what you want from the relationship and life in general, as well as whether your goals and ambitions align,' she tells Metro.

And Just Like That star worries if they're to blame for axed Sex And The City reboot
An actor on And Just Like That is questioning if his character is to blame for the Sex And The City spinoff's recent cancellation. Following the bleak news, initially shared by Sarah Jessica Parker and creator Michael Patrick King, actor Jonathan Cake, 57, took to Instagram to reflect on his brief time on the show. He shared a photo of his character Duncan in bed with Sarah's main character, the divisive Carrie Bradshaw, and wrote in the caption, 'Wait, did i JUST KILL @justlikethatmax?' Adding a spoiler, he cheekily continued, 'Duncan finally has one night of passion with Carrie Bradshaw and the show's over…FOREVER??? Was it, judging by this picture, his surprisingly small head? Or something else a little underwhelming?' The playful note went on, 'Ah Duncan Donuts, I guess America won't run on Duncan, but it was exquisite pleasure while it lasted.' The actor also shared a behind-the-scenes snapshot of Sarah smiling while wearing eyeglasses. He shared a photo of his character Duncan in bed with Sarah's main character, the divisive Carrie Bradshaw, and wrote in the caption, 'Wait, did i JUST KILL @justlikethatmax?' In his message he named costars Sarah, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, creator Michael and producer John Melfi before writing, 'You gave the world SUCH joy for nearly thirty years. 'I don't think there's a higher calling for people in our business. You knocked it out of the park and it's still traveling, traveling, traveling. 'Thank you for having me on your team for a hot — a very hot — minute. You're all brilliant.' Cake joined the third and final season of the reboot as a writer who lived in the apartment underneath Carrie's. The two characters initially bumped heads before finding common ground in their writing careers. The most recent episode saw them take their relationship from professional to personal as they explored their romantic chemistry. Fans are now anxiously waiting to see how the final two episodes of the franchise will tie everything together. Sarah acknowledged the show's culmination with a heartfelt post shared on Instagram. Sharing a montage of photos from the history of the two series, she wrote a poem that read in part: 'She crossed streets, avenues, rubicons, so it seemed. 'She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won, tripped, leaped. Fell short and into puddles. 'Aged. Got wiser. She has made the hardest worst and best decisions. 'Traveled near and far. For the new. The vintage. Friends and love. 'Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City. 'She had dates, drinks, boyfriends. A husband and truly great loves and romances. 'She hailed cabs. She ran in heels. And danced with Stanford. She told the truth and she lied. 'She typed. Wondered. Wrote. Published. Grieved. Forgave. Got stood up. Stood strong. Stood out.'

When is Wednesday season 2 released on Netflix?
Wednesday season two will be released in two parts on Netflix The countdown is nearly at an end for the much-anticipated second season of Wednesday on Netflix. The series is set to grace screens across the globe imminently, promising fans another dose of its delightfully dark storytelling, reports the Mirror US. Jenna Ortega is back as Wednesday Addams, navigating the eerie corridors of Nevermore Academy with a fresh mystery to unravel in season two. Not only will viewers get more of the stoic and sharp-witted teenager and her pals, but they'll also see more of her eccentric family this time around, along with an A-list cast. Wednesday made its debut in 2022, offering a fresh take on the classic Addams Family saga. The first season was an instant hit, quickly becoming Netflix's second most-watched English-language series within just three weeks of release. The show garnered two Golden Globe Award nods and scooped up four Primetime Emmy Awards. Following its success, Wednesday was renewed for a second season in 2023, and more recently, in July 2025, Netflix confirmed a third season of Wednesday before the second had even aired. Reflecting on the show's impact, leading lady Ortega remarked: "It's still quite difficult to comprehend. I see the effects and changes that it's had on my life and my castmates' lives, but it's something that you're very detached from." She added: "If you see a number, it looks kind of crazy, but it's not like I've seen it in a room or anything like that." Ortega also shared her personal measure of success, saying: "I just try not to pay too much attention to that stuff because success for me is more about feeling accomplished and being able to put something out into the world and feel proud. "It's wonderful that it's been received so well, because there's a lot of pressure." She added: "When we started the show, I was 18 and had never worked with a director as big as Tim. I had led a show before, but not with a character that was so well known and loved prior to me joining. "It's a relief, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I still don't feel super anxious or feel like I have something I need to live up to every day on set. Maybe that's a good thing, but it hasn't gotten easier." Here's what you need to know about the release schedule for the show on Netflix. What time does Wednesday season 2 come out on Netflix UK? Hollyoaks confirms unexpected reunion for Ste and Rex
Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) is keen to reunite with Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) in Hollyoaks next week – but not without son Lucas' (Oscar Curtis) blessing. Rex, as viewers know, targeted and groomed Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) into a world of exploitation earlier this year while working with sister Grace Black (Tamara Wall) to traffic the teens of the village. He subsequently had a change of heart and turned himself in to the police after boyfriend Ste uncovered what he did to son Lucas' boyfriend Dillon, branding his partner a 'monster'. After some persuasion from Donny Clark (Louis Emerick), Rex decides to inform on sisters Grace and Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) and next week, he's introduced to Froggy (John Middleton), shocked to realise that he's his granddad. And soon after, Rex is released from prison. Knowing he'll be public enemy number one if spotted, he hides in the shadows upon his return to the village. Ste, meanwhile, attempts to reach out to Lucas, who brushes him off, and later he's left in shock when Rex approaches him. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Despite what Rex did to Dillon – who is still very much struggling in the wake of his exploitation ordeal – it seems Ste is willing to give him another chance, but only if Lucas is receptive, reiterating that they will need to get his son's blessing. While Ste contemplates how exactly to get Lucas on side, Rex arrives at Grace's flat, much to the horror of Clare, who is in an unforgiving mood. Grace, however, is determined to turn over a new leaf and, unwilling to lose another brother, she pleads with Clare to leave Rex unharmed. Later, Ste finds Rex outside The Dog and, with Lucas out for the evening, he invites him over for tea, with the former flames spending the night together. More Trending As is always the case in this village, it doesn't take long for word to spread about Rex. When he pays a visit to The Hutch, the whole village turns against him, understandably refusing to forgive his role in the exploitation of the teens. The question is: will Ste's reunion with Rex prove controversial? How will Lucas react? Not to mention the rest of the village?
