Rajasthan energy minister Heeralal Nagar's Rs 2 lakh electricity bill unpaid: Hanuman Beniwal alleges VIP bias; flags fund misuse

NEW DELHI: Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal has alleged that Rajasthan energy minister Heeralal Nagar has unpaid electricity bills worth over Rs 2 lakh, even as the power supply to Beniwal's official residence and MP office in Nagaur was recently cut over non-payment of dues.
Beniwal claimed to have shared documents showing pending dues of Rs 2.17 lakh for Nagar's government bungalow on Hospital Road. He questioned whether the minister's connection would also be disconnected, as his had been.
According to Beniwal, bills for Nagar's Jyoti Nagar flats were cleared from government funds. However, when officials tried to settle the Hospital Road bill the same way, the treasury reportedly refused, stating that only one bill per minister can be paid from public money.
The minister denied having any pending dues and clarified that the bill in question is still within its due date.
Beniwal further alleged corruption in the installation of smart meters, claiming that the process involved kickbacks reaching up to senior officials, including the minister. He said the tendering process began under the Congress government, but was finalised and implemented under the BJP, without any changes to conditions.

Beniwal also raised allegations against Khivsar MLA Rewant Ram Danga, pointing to overdue bills and alleged rule violations in granting electricity connections. He accused Danga of involvement in irregularities under the Prime Minister's Fasal Bima Yojana and illegal mining activities.
He criticised the state government over the sub-inspector recruitment controversy, alleging inconsistent positions in court and calling it an example of administrative failure. He also named the Nagaur SP and former MP Jyoti Mirdha in alleged illegal sand mining operations.

Fixtures worth Rs 35 lakh ‘missing' from Kolkata 5-star hotel under renovation

As per the complaint, 228 showerheads, eight ceiling fans, and several other fixtures, including taps and fittings, have gone missing from the washrooms and housekeeping pantry areas of the hotel, which has remained shut since August 2024 for extensive renovation work, he said. The New Market Police Station has launched a probe into the official complaint lodged by the authorities of the Oberoi Grand, a senior officer said. Kolkata, Jul 23 (PTI) A theft, involving luxury fittings worth approximately Rs 35 lakh, was reported from a five-star hotel in Kolkata's Esplanade area, currently undergoing some renovation work since last year, police said on Wednesday. 'The incident came to light recently when a shift engineer noticed several high-value items were missing from the hotel's bathrooms and utility areas. Initial probe revealed that despite the contractor responsible for the renovation deploying around 20 security guards, such a large quantity of materials has gone missing. We are now probing whether individuals from the contracting or security agencies were complicit in this matter,' the officer said. All angles are being examined, and statements are being recorded from those responsible for site security and maintenance, he said. PTI SCH NN This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Pilot loses Rs 3.16 crore in share market investment fraud

'After watching the videos in May, the pilot received a call from a woman on WhatsApp. She introduced herself as an assistant mentor and claimed to be working with SMC Global Securities,' a police official said. The scam unfolded after the pilot watched videos on share market investments on a YouTube channel he had subscribed to. Mumbai, July 23 (PTI) A 56-year-old pilot was allegedly cheated of Rs 3.16 crore by cyber fraudsters under the guise of offering attractive returns in share trading, Mumbai Police said on Wednesday. The pilot was then added to a WhatsApp group and started receiving investment tips. After some days, the woman asked him to download the SMC Global Securities app. He subsequently invested in shares as per the tips. He deposited over Rs 3.16 crore in various bank accounts shared by the woman until July 11, the police official said. The pilot's wife had downloaded the app and found that her investment generated Rs 6.73 crore profit, while the profit in her husband's account showed Rs 15.82 crore. On July 11, the pilot, who works with Air India, contacted the company as he wanted to withdraw the money. The call was attended by an 'official' of the securities' company who asked him to deposit an additional 10 per cent. The pilot realised that he was being taken for a ride and lodged a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and approached West Region Cyber Police Station on July 19, the official said. Police registered a case against unidentified cyber fraudsters under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, he said, adding that further investigation is underway. Bengal govt to run two flagship schemes in parallel for next two months

'The programmes will be coordinated closely to maximise their effectiveness and public reach. Unlike earlier years when around one lakh camps were set up exclusively for the 'Duare Sarkar' programme, this year's model will change slightly. We will same camps to hold the 'Amader Para, Amader Samadhan' and 'Duare Sarkar' programmes for 60 days from August,' the official said. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant on Tuesday chaired a virtual meeting from state secretariat Nabanna with all the district magistrates and outlined the implementation strategy for the welfare schemes — 'Duare Sarkar' (government at the doorsteps) and 'Amader Para, Amader Samadhan' (our locality, our solution), he said. Kolkata, Jul 23 (PTI) The West Bengal government on Wednesday decided to simultaneously run two of its flagship outreach programmes over the next two months, with an aim to ensure delivery of services and swift resolution of local issues at the grassroots level, an official said. 'Each of these sessions will be attended by district-level officers, Block Development Officers (BDOs), local administration, and elected public representatives,' the official said, adding that residents from the three nearby booths will be invited to attend and discuss issues affecting their locality. The 'Amader Para, Amader Samadhan' initiative specifically targets local civic and infrastructural grievances — from street lighting and water supply to other essential amenities while the 'Duare Sarkar' camps will focus on enrolling eligible citizens into various government welfare schemes and resolving cases where families have been deprived of such services, he said. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday launched the 'Amader Para, Amader Samadhan' programme aimed at addressing issues in various localities in the state. The Rs 8,000-crore project will commence on August 2 and be completed within 60 days. PTI SCH ACD This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
