The Indian Army's Intelligence Unit has apprehended a man on charges of espionage in Shimla on Friday.
The suspect was held by Army near Shimla's Army Training Command (ARTRAC) on Friday. The army took him to different places and interrogated him.
After taking the suspect into custody, the army took him to different places and interrogated him. After interrogation, the army handed him over to the police. However, his identity has not been revealed yet.
The man has been accused of allegedly spying and providing confidential information related to the army and the country with Pakistan or some other country. However, concrete evidence is still being collected against the suspect.
According to sources, the suspect was staying in a hotel in the Himachal capital since May 28. He was allegedly asking the local people about the army.
Sources further revealed that the suspect is a native of Uttar Pradesh's Noida and hold a US citizenship.
During the interrogation, the suspect revealed that he works in a private company. He also told that his father was a colonel in the field military, sources added.
He also told that has traveled to 64 countries including Pakistan in 2005 and China in 2008.
SP Shimla confirmed the arrest and said that the army has handed over the youth and he is being interrogated.
Earlier this week, Kangra Police arrested a 20-year-old youth on suspicion of espionage following a tip-off.
The suspect, identified as Abhishek, a native of Dehra, was held just three kilometres away from Shri Mata Chintpurni Temple on Una-Kangra districts border.
The development comes as a series of revelations regarding Pakistani spy networks in India. Several Indians were arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan including a CRPF personnel Moti Ram Jat from Rajasthan, a contractual health worker Sahdevsinh Gohil posted in the border district of Kutch, a YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra from Haryana who has several lakhs of subscribers. She was arrested in Haryana this month. She had travelled to Pakistan a number of times.
Additionally, a Rajasthan government employee was detained in Jaisalmer on suspicion of espionage for Pakistan with sources saying he worked as an assistant to former Congress minister Shale Mohammad.
Shakur Khan, who works in the district employment office, was found to have phone numbers associated with Pakistan stored on his device, an official said.
Prior to this month's conflict, Pakistanis and Indians were able to travel to each other's countries, but it has long been very difficult to obtain visas due to government bureaucracy and historical mistrust.
The relations between India and Pakistan hit rock bottom after the neighbouring country resorted to a terror attack in Kashmir's iconic Pahalgam, killing 26 innocent tourists on April 22.
In response, India, on the intervening night of May 7 and 8, launched 'Operation Sindoor' against Pakistan and destroyed multiple terror targets there.

Operation Akhal: Major Anti-Terror Push Enters Third Day

A major anti-terror operation in the Akhal forests in Kulgam district entered its third day on August 3, marking it as one of the longest and most significant counter-terrorism operations of the year. The Operation is being conducted in the dense Akhal forest of the Pir Panjal mountain range in South Kashmir. It is being carried by a joint force of the Indian Army's PARA commandos, 9 RR, Special Operations Group commandos of Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Operation Akhal began on August 1 (Friday) late at night following credible intelligence inputs about the presence of a terrorist group in the Akhal forest area, and on Sunday, it entered its third day. On the third day with heavy blasts and exchanges of fire continued throughout the day and the previous night. Sources say that three terrorists were killed by this point, but the body of only one terrorist was found, and the killing of only one terrorist is officially confirmed until now, as the other two bodies of terrorists are yet to be found. Three Indian Army soldiers sustained manageable injuries and are under treatment. Operation Akhal: Timeline And Details On Sunday, for surveillance of this dense forest, security forces used high-tech surveillance, including drones, UAVs, and helicopters, to trace the movement of hiding terrorists and targets hit by UBGL and automatic assault rifles, grenades, and motors. The search operation was launched on human intelligence on July 29, but contact was established on August 1. Terrorists hiding under forest cover opened fire on security forces, escalating the operation into a fierce gunfight. One terrorist was neutralized by the evening, identified as Haris Nazir Dar, a Category-C terrorist affiliated with LeT from Rajpura, Pulwama, active since June 24, 2023. Arms recovered from him included an AK-47 rifle, an AK magazine, and grenades. It confirmed that the group hiding is of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). On day two, the Operation continued with intermittent and intense firefights throughout the night, and sources informed that two more terrorists were neutralized, bringing the total to three. But the killing of those two was not officially confirmed, as no bodies were found. A senior police officer indicated that two or three more terrorists might still be hiding in the area, as searching parties are being fired at from three directions. Operation Akhal: Operation Akhal is the longest anti-terror operation of 2025. The Operation is a part of the efforts to counter terrorism in the mountain region of Pir Panjaal, which has been considered a safe haven for Pakistani terrorists for the last four years in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources in security forces say it's a group of six terrorists. However, the exact number of terrorists still hiding remains speculative. Operation Akhal is the third major encounter in Jammu and Kashmir within a week. Earlier Operation Mahadev on July 28, where three LeT terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack were eliminated, followed by Operation Shivshakti on July 30, two terrorists while infiltrating at LoC in Poonch were neutralized. Senior officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP) and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, closely monitoring the situation, remained at the base camp of the spot. Today, Operation Akhal remains ongoing and will be halted for the night and will resume with the first light of day.

Attacks on Indian migrants are against Ireland's values

India and Ireland share deep historical and cultural roots that have allowed our two countries, despite our vastly different sizes, to form close and enduring bonds. Today, India and Ireland share a relationship built on shared values and strong educational and economic ties. Central to this are the tens of thousands of Indian nationals who call Ireland home. Outside of citizens from the UK or EU, Indians account for the largest migrant population in Ireland. Ireland has long prided itself on its warm welcome and hospitality. The overwhelming majority of Irish people welcome migrants into their society, workplaces, and homes. (ANI Photo) The Indian community is an integral and valued part of Irish society. Indians living in Ireland are contributing immensely to our economy, our education and health care sectors, our research institutions, and our cultural life. From IT professionals and scientists, to doctors, nurses, students and entrepreneurs, Indians are helping to shape our present and our future. Their contribution is not only recognised — it is appreciated and celebrated. That is why Ireland has been so stunned by a number of recent assaults on Indians living in Dublin, our capital city. These assaults have been widely reported, both in Ireland and India, and have rightly caused deep concern across both our nations. As Ireland's ambassador to India, I wish to express our strongest condemnation of these appalling and senseless acts. These attacks — carried out by a small number of young people fuelled by misinformation — are deeply at odds with the values of the Irish people. I understand that each incident reported to Ireland's national police service is being investigated rigorously, with a view to apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring that justice will be served for the victims. The Irish embassy in New Delhi and the Irish foreign ministry in Dublin are in close and continuous contact with the Indian embassy in Dublin to share updates and express our support for affected individuals. We understand the anxiety and concern that these recent incidents have caused, both among Indians living in Ireland and their families back home in India. We are taking this matter with the utmost seriousness. These mindless actions could not be further from the values Ireland holds dear. They have generated widespread outrage across Irish society. They are not representative of who the Irish are as a people or as a country. Following a recent assault on an Indian man in the Dublin suburb of Tallaght, the local community responded by holding a rally attended by hundreds of people showing their solidarity with their Indian neighbours. Shamrock Rovers, Ireland's largest and most successful football club, invited members of the Indian community as special guests to their UEFA Conference League match at Tallaght Stadium. This initiative sent a strong, unambiguous message: Hate has no home in Ireland. The gesture by Shamrock Rovers embodied the Ireland we know — a country rooted in decency, openness and respect. Ireland has long been a nation shaped by migration. Five million people live in Ireland, but around the world, 70 million people claim Irish heritage. We are a migrant nation. This history has made us deeply aware of the immigrant experience and instilled in us a lasting commitment to inclusion and empathy. We are proud of the growing Indian diaspora in Ireland and want to see them live in safety, prosperity, and with a sense of belonging. That is, I strongly believe, the experience of the overwhelming number of migrants, from India and elsewhere, in Ireland. Ireland has long prided itself on its warm welcome and hospitality. The overwhelming majority of Irish people welcome migrants into their society, workplaces, and homes. The emergence over recent years of a tiny — but sadly vocal — anti-immigrant movement, largely fuelled by online misinformation, is a new phenomenon for us. We are grappling with it. Thankfully, the vast majority of people utterly reject their attempts to sow division. There is virtually no public support for their manifesto of hate. The hateful actions of a few must never overshadow the goodwill of the many. Let us not allow the voices of division to drown out the voices of friendship, solidarity and respect. The people of Ireland stand with the Indian community and will continue to stand firmly against racism in all its forms. Kevin Kelly is Ireland's ambassador to India. The views expressed are personal.

Case Against Army Officer And SpiceJet Staffer He Assaulted Over Luggage

New Delhi: A violent clash at the Srinagar airport has led to a police case being filed against an Army officer and a SpiceJet staffer he is accused of assaulting over a dispute concerning excess cabin luggage. The incident, which occurred on July 26, during the boarding of SpiceJet flight SG-386 bound for Delhi, resulted in serious injuries to four SpiceJet employees, including a spinal fracture and severe jaw injuries. According to a statement released by SpiceJet, the incident began when the Army officer, identified as Ritesh Kumar Singh, attempted to board the Delhi-bound flight with two pieces of cabin luggage weighing a total of 16 kilograms. Under Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations, cabin luggage exceeding 7 kilograms incurs additional charges for domestic flights. When informed of the excess weight and the associated fee, the officer reportedly refused to comply and attempted to forcibly enter the aerobridge without completing the mandatory boarding process, breaching aviation security protocols. A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official, responsible for airport security, escorted the officer back to the boarding gate. It was at this point, SpiceJet alleges, that the situation escalated. The officer became increasingly aggressive, launching a physical assault on four members of the airline's ground staff. The attack involved punches, repeated kicks, and the use of a queue stand as a weapon. According to the airline, one staff member suffered a spinal fracture, while another sustained serious jaw injuries, including bleeding from the nose and mouth, after receiving a forceful kick to the face while attempting to assist a colleague. The Army has taken note of the matter and is supporting the civil investigation, a source within the Army said.
