The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, the upcoming feature-length addition to the Avatar universe, has finally confirmed the actor behind one of its most iconic characters.
Steven Yeun, widely recognised for his roles in The Walking Dead and Invincible, will voice the adult version of Zuko, Aang's one-time enemy, later friend and mentor, in the 2026 animated film.
Yeun's casting had sparked speculation earlier this year when he was announced as part of the film's ensemble in an unspecified role. Many fans assumed he might reprise his part as Avatar Wan from The Legend of Korra, but creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con that Yeun is now stepping into the role of Fire Lord Zuko.
Konietzko stated, 'Steven Yeun was Avatar Wan. He played the first Avatar in The Legend of Korra. We loved working with him, and we're excited to have him back in the universe.' Although it's still unclear whether Yeun will also return as Wan, the creators emphasised their excitement about his expanded role in the Avatar world.
Joining Yeun are Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, and Dionne Quan as Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph, respectively. The film explores Team Avatar's adult lives and bridges the narrative gap between The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
The film is directed by Lauren Montgomery and co-directed by William Mata, with DiMartino and Konietzko producing. It's slated for release on October 9, 2026.

'Avatar: Fire and Ash' trailer reveals new tribe and conflict ahead of December 2025 cinema release

Disney has released the first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third film in James Cameron's Avatar franchise, scheduled for theatrical release on December 19 2025. The trailer introduces the Ash People, a new tribe on Pandora, known for their association with fire and their aggressive tactics. Director James Cameron previewed the film at the 2024 D23 Expo, describing it as a continuation of the expansive narrative that began in Avatar: The Way of Water. Cameron noted that the third film explores 'really challenging territory' for its central characters and brings emotional stakes that surpass the previous instalments. The trailer reveals that Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, and the Metkayina clan are now confronting the Ash People, led by a character named Varang, portrayed by Oona Chaplin. The footage shows Varang commanding fire and forming an alliance with Colonel Quaritch, reprised by Stephen Lang. Her closing line in the trailer, 'Your goddess has no dominion here,' sets the tone for the new conflict. Returning cast members include Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Britain Dalton. New additions to the cast feature Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. According to Cameron, Fire and Ash was originally part of a combined storyline with The Way of Water, but the project expanded into two films during development. He also teased that the Ash People represent a more violent contrast to the previously introduced Na'vi clans.

Why is AMC killing off 'The Walking Dead's' Daryl Dixon if his story isn't over?

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has officially been renewed for a fourth and final season, but don't bury Daryl just yet. The fan-favourite spinoff is preparing to say goodbye in its own way, with AMC hinting that Norman Reedus' crossbow-wielding antihero may live on beyond the series. Announced during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel, the bittersweet news confirmed that Season 4 will wrap up the France-to-Spain saga of Daryl and Carol. Production is already underway in Spain, suggesting a brisk turnaround for the final eight episodes. Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, acknowledged the emotional weight of the finale but promised a worthy conclusion. 'I'm going to revel in the moments,' she said. 'We've been working in incredible locations and I'm excited for fans to see what's coming.' Season 3, set to premiere this September, will see the survivors continuing their trek back to the United States. But only two characters from Season 2 return: Daryl and Carol, further underlining their central bond, one that's kept fans invested since the original series. Norman Reedus offered a heartfelt goodbye to viewers. 'This finale isn't just an ending, it's a celebration of what we've all shared together,' he said, adding cryptically that 'Daryl's journey is far from over.' The statement has sparked speculation that future spinoffs, cameos, or even films could be in the works. Online reactions were mixed. While many lament the series' end, others suspect AMC is simply clearing the way for yet another undead resurrection of its most bankable star. Either way, the franchise refuses to stay dead, much like its walkers.
