Former Kaizer Chiefs winger in rehab for marijuana

Most Kaizer Chiefs fans still remember Kgaogelo Sekgota. It was only in 2023 when the 28-year-old winger left Amakhosi after two assists in 48 appearances.
The Polokwane-born attacker followed that with short stints at Stellenbosch FC and Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership, before the move to Upington City in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The Northern Cape-based club has confirmed that the former Kaizer Chiefs winger is struggling with drug addiction.

Reports on social media claimed that the former Bidvest Wits and Swallows star has been struggling with marijuana and alcohol abuse. Last season, Sekgota was dismissed by two Betway Premiership clubs after six months at each club: Stellenbosch and Magesi.
'Orlando Pirates give you R90 000, R100, 000 per month'
Meanwhile, his new club Upington, are committing support. 'You can't dismiss a player because he is in rehab, so he still has an option with us,' the club's chairman David Mogashoa told FARPost .
'The player needs support, so I am going to support him. As I speak with you now, you can hear that I am in a car. I am driving to Limpopo to see him. You don't throw away people when they need help; you support them,' he added.
'We are encouraging him, and we also encourage everyone who has an issue to seek help. A player must never be crucified for seeking help. That's why I am driving to Limpopo now to go and see him,' the former Swallows chairman Mogashoa added.

Kaizer Chiefs - Full list: Main transfer targets in each position

Kaizer Chiefs have wrapped uop their pre-season tour of the Netherlands and it is clear that they need to make some big changes. Kaizer Chiefs won just one of their five matches during their pre-season tour to the Netherlands. So, they are going to need to recruit some new players in key positions. Let's take a look at their main transfer targets in each position. CHIEFS MAIN TRANSFER TARGETS Goalkeeper: Stanley Nwabili/ Croatian Defenders: Fawaaz Basadien Midfielders: Mihlali Mayambela, Jaedin Rhodes and Luke Baartmen Attackers (Strikers and Wingers): Dzenan Zajmovic, Asenale Velebayi and Elias Makwana Chiefs urgently need reinforcements in goal. This is because Fiacre Ntwari is set to be released. Meanwhile, Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma continue to be rotated by Nasreddine Nabi with neither man showing consistancy in goal. Hence, the pressing need to sign a quality goalkeeper. Nigerian goalkeeper, Nwabali has been linked with Chiefs for several seasons now. However, Chippa United are now open to letting him go with Amakhosi interested in signing him. In defence, Amakhosi have brought in Nkanyiso Shinga, Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane. Meanwhile, they signed Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley at the start of last season. So, they are quite well covered at the back although they are still linked to Stellenbosch and Bafana Bafna FC right back, Basadien. Njabulo Blom (defender and defensive midfielder), Sabelo Radebe, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Yusuf Maart have all left Chiefs. Meanwhile, they have signed Ethan Ndlovu and Siphesihle Ndlovu. So, that's four midfield departures and two midfield signings and they're far from done with changes in the midfield. Mayambela and Rhodes are heavily linked with moves to Chiefs. In fact, Amakhosi were close to securing a deal for Mayambela before they raised his price. So, they are willing to wait until January when he is free or for Aris Limassol to lower their asking price. 'Chiefs are not just sitting back and relaxing by waiting for January or the end of the season. It's believed the negotiations are ongoing and it will depend on how low Aris Limassol can go in terms of the amount. Chiefs are believed to want to have him as early as they can. But if that doesn't happen, then they will wait for his free agency status from January until the end of the season,' the insider revealed on SNL . Meanwhile, Baartmen (Cape Town Spurs) has reportedly agreed to join Chiefs. In five matches on tour, Chiefs scored two goals. One was a stunner from Reeve Frosler. Whilst, one goal was scored by youngster Naledi Hlongwane. Meaning, in five matches – 450 minutes (seven and a half hours of football), Amakhosi's attackers managed just one goal. Flavio Silva has been underwhelming. Whilst, Wandile Duba needs an experienced attacker to guide him. As things stand, Chiefs could sign Zajmovic for free. Meanwhile, they are yet again linked with Mokwana and Velebayi. Interestingly, reports claim Velebayi has already agreed to join Chiefs. Kaizer Chiefs news: Lost relationship and new midfielder

It's fair to say Kaizer Chiefs have lost a reliable recruitment relationship following the abrupt sale of SuperSport United to the newly formed Siwelele FC. The now-defunct SuperSport United had become a trusted talent pipeline for Kaizer Chiefs, supplying three signings in just two years. While it was a free transfer, the relationship came to life in 2023 with the arrival of Botswana international Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who joined Amakhosi that year. The centre-back quickly established himself as a mainstay in Amakhosi's defence before he was sold to Al-Ittihad in Libya last term. Orlando Pirates respond to R120m Mofokeng news In January 2025, the two clubs agreed on the sale of striker Tashreeq Morris, who signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Soweto giants. Known for his physical style and attacking instincts, Morris was brought in to add experience and presence to the frontline… Full story here. R20 million paid into Kaizer Chiefs bank account? Former Kaizer Chiefs midfield ace, Willard Katsande, believes the Betway Premiership giants have signed a gem of a midfielder in Siphesihle Ndlovu. Kaizer Chiefs bolstered their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season, adding Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Nkanyiso Shinga, and, notably, Siphesihle Ndlovu, signed from the now-defunct SuperSport United. According to Katsande, Ndlovu is the standout deal. As a former captain and midfield enforcer at Amakhosi, Katsande's opinion carries weight. His endorsement of Ndlovu speaks volumes about the club's recent activities in the transfer market. Siphesihle Ndlovu in the colours of SuperSport United against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium. 'Nigerian scammers' use Siya Kolisi to dupe public in AI video

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi's likeness has been used by 'Nigerian scammers' who created an AI video featuring the popular player. In the video, 'Siya' appears to encourage his followers to engage in an investment scheme. On the X platform, an AI-created video of Siya Kolisi has left many South Africans amused and confused. The clip features the Springbok captain's likeness, encouraging the public to 'invest' in a programme that could generate high interest. Speaking in a 'Nigerian' accent, the man South Africans recognise as Kolisi says: 'I guarantee that everyone who registers this month and invests the minimum amount of R4 400 will be able to earn their first R100 000 Seemingly trying to convince the public, 'Siya Kolisi' added, 'I have no need to lie. I use this project myself, from which I receive additional high income. It is completely transparent, legal, and has already helped thousands of people around the country. 'I will show proof that it really works'. On X, South Africans have been amused and somewhat amazed at the creativity of scammers. Siya Kolisi has yet to respond to the scam's use of his image. Siya Kolisi is not the first Springbok to be used to prey on the public in a scam. In 2019, SA Rugby issued a stern warning to the public about social media posts using coach Rassie Erasmus to try to lure money from them. The posts featured fake screenshots of articles from reputable publications. SA Rugby shared: 'The authors are trying to steal your money. And for absolute clarity, Rassie – or any other Springbok personality whose identity may be hijacked – does not have investing advice for you; does not want you to send money to him or her, and is not recommending any kind of business opportunity even if it relates to rugby. These are all scams'. It added: 'Please ignore them, keep your money in your pocket and share this advice with any friends who may be in danger of being duped'. SCAM ALERT: Do not be fooled by fake news stories purporting to come from reputable websites and in social media… Posted by Springboks on Tuesday 17 December 2019 Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 .
