Tanjung Aru PGRS confident of winning three seats

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) will ensure Tanjung Aru, Tanjung Keramat and Petagas are won by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the coming 17th state election (PRN17). PGRS Tanjung Aru Division Chief Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari said this confidence is based on the current situation of strong support for local parties. According to him, the situation also reflects the instability within Sabah Umno, particularly the Putatan Division, which had previously been confident in its ability to reclaim all three seats in the coming 17th state election (PRN17). 'This sentiment is also a clear message of the Sabah people's rejection of external parties, particularly Umno, while expressing their support for GRS as a coalition of local parties. 'This situation is evident from the survey we conducted, particularly in Petagas, Tanjung Aru and Tanjung Keramat, which showed that the majority of the people reject national parties and instead support GRS.' 'Support from the youth, particularly new and undecided voters, largely favours GRS and local leadership to continue leading Sabah after the 17th state election (PRN17).' 'For the people, only local parties like GRS truly understand the heartbeat of Sabah's citizens,' he said when met at the Tanjung Aru Open Fut8 Football Championship organised by the PGRS Tanjung Aru Division here on July 20. He was commenting on remarks by Umno Putatan Division Chief, Jeffrey Nor Mohamad, who had earlier expressed confidence in capturing all three seats in PRN17. He said that such confidence was understandable, as the three seats previously belonged to Umno, particularly Petagas, which was once a stronghold of Barisan Nasional (BN). Awang, who is also Petagas Assemblyman, said the focus on safeguarding the interests and welfare of the people through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda had also contributed to this public support. He said under the leadership of the Chief Minister and GRS Chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, various assistance programmes had been provided in education, social welfare and development. 'Under the SMJ agenda, the GRS government has provided substantial assistance and incentives to the people. 'In education alone, there are numerous free initiatives for Sabah's children that have never been implemented by previous governments, including the SMJ housing aid, Syukur programme and many others.' TONGOD (Aug 4): Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) vice president Datuk Masiung Banah has rejected Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's proposal for Barisan Nasional (BN) to form a tripartite alliance with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) ahead of the 17th State Election. 'Such an understanding is unlikely to materialize as it would confuse voters. Moreover, GRS and PH have already agreed to continue their political cooperation,' Masiung said in response to the Prime Minister's suggestion made yesterday. He added that if a three-party alliance were to take shape, Gagasan Rakyat would stand by Anwar's earlier statement made in Tawau on May 11, where the Prime Minister expressed support for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor to lead the seat negotiation process. During a special meeting with Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leaders in Kota Kinabalu yesterday, Anwar had expressed his intention to mediate negotiations between GRS, BN and PH to avoid three-cornered contests in the upcoming state election. However, Masiung firmly dismissed the idea, describing it as a political 'love triangle' that Gagasan Rakyat — the backbone of GRS — would not support. He emphasized that GRS and PH Sabah already have a solid foundation of political cooperation, particularly in the administration of the state government. 'GRS has lost trust in BN/Umno due to their betrayal during the 'Langkah Kinabalu' episode,' he said, referring to the political manoeuvre he claimed was orchestrated by BN/Umno to undermine the ruling coalition. Masiung pointed out that since the episode, BN/Umno leaders have continuously acted with hostility toward GRS, employing various tactics to destabilize the alliance. 'At the same time, Umno/BN Sabah has also declared that it will no longer work with GRS,' he noted. He urged the Prime Minister to respect GRS's position and honour his earlier commitment to allow GRS chairman Hajiji Noor to lead the seat negotiations among aligned parties ahead of the state polls.

TONGOD - Gagasan Rakyat Vice President Datuk Masiung Banah has rejected Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's idea of forming a political pact between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), ahead of the 17th Sabah State Election. He made clear that a partnership involving BN was not feasible, stressing that it would confuse voters and undermine existing understandings between GRS and PH. As Sabah prepares for its 17th State Election, shifting alliances among GRS, PH, BN and PN are shaping what could be one of the state's most complex and consequential polls. Referring to the political manoeuvre known as Langkah Kinabalu, Masiung accused BN leaders of fanning hostility and undermining GRS since the incident. 'Since that event, which the party's leaders orchestrated, they have continued to stir animosity and belittle GRS using various tactics and strategies,' he added. Masiung also highlighted that Umno-BN Sabah had already announced their decision not to work with GRS. 'We hope the Prime Minister respects our stance and honours his promise to leave the seat negotiation process in the hands of Hajiji, as the GRS Chairman, to manage discussions with coalition parties ahead of the State Election,' he said.

Government affirms trade unions as development partners

Speaking at the state-level Trade Union Day at ITCC, Hajiji stressed the importance of unions in areas beyond wages, including policy-making, education, and technology adoption. He said the government remains committed to supporting the trade union movement and creating a fair, sustainable employment ecosystem that benefits all Sabahans. Hajiji described the assembly as a landmark event signalling a new chapter for structured and inclusive unionism under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan. He noted that Sabah recorded over 1.7 million in labour force last year, contributing to a GDP of RM84.3 billion through sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and services. There are currently 92 registered trade unions in the state with over 60,000 members across the government, private, and statutory sectors, he added.
