Naomi Osaka Splits With Coach Patrick Mouratoglou After Tough Season
Naomi Osaka has split from coach Patrick Mouratoglou after less than a year. Ranked 49th, she struggled in 2023, losing early in majors. She now starts at the WTA 1000 in Montreal.
Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka announced on Monday that she has parted ways with coach Patrick Mouratoglou after less than a year of working together.
The Japanese star had teamed up with the Frenchman, who has long been the coach of 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, in September of last year.
After giving birth to her daughter, Osaka did not compete in 2023 and has struggled to maintain consistency since returning to the professional circuit a year ago, currently ranked 49th.
This year, she was eliminated in the first round of the French Open and the third round of Wimbledon.
Most recently, in a highly anticipated match between two of tennis's most commercially influential and frequently scrutinized young stars, Great Britain's Emma Raducanu defeated Osaka 6–4, 6–2 at the Washington Open, resulting in another disappointing outcome for the Japanese player.
This encounter marked their first career meeting, where Raducanu showcased a sharp and composed performance to overcome the four-time Grand Slam champion.
'Merci Patrick… it was such a great experience learning from you," the former world number one shared on X.
Regarding Osaka's 2025 season, two results stand out – a runner-up finish in Auckland and her first clay title at the WTA 125 (Challenger) tournament in Saint-Malo.
With Mouratoglou gone, it will be interesting to see if Osaka brings in someone new to assist her or decides to go solo for a while.
Today, the former world No. 1 is starting her campaign at the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, where she faces world No. 515 Ariana Arseneault. Despite her recent struggles, Osaka enters as the major favourite against the 515th-ranked Canadian.

Khaleel opts out of Essex journey due to personal reasons
London, Jul 28 (PTI) India left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has cut short his stint with English county side Essex after just playing two first-class matches in the ongoing Championship due to personal reasons. Khaleel initially signed with the club for a two-month stint, which would've seen him play six first-class matches – the remainder of Essex's first-class season – as well as a maximum of 10 possible List A games in the One-Day Cup. 'While we are disappointed to see him (Khaleel) leave, we fully support Khaleel's decision and are grateful for the contributions he made during his time with us," Essex said in a statement. The club had announced his signing in June, after he had impressed for India A with a spell of 4 for 70 during a red-ball game against the England Lions. He joined Essex for a stint which was supposed to last till late September but played in just two matches, taking four wickets at an average of 64.50. Khaleel, who last played for India in 2019, has taken 15 wickets in 11 ODIs at an average of 31.00. PTI SSC SSC ATK Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Fan Told To Cover Pakistan Shirt In Manchester, Lancashire Opens Investigation
Last Updated: A fan was asked to cover his Pakistan cricket jersey at Old Trafford during the India-England Test. Upset, he left the ground. Lancashire is investigating the incident. A fan at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground was 'asked' to cover his Pakistan cricket jersey-like shirt during the fourth Test between India and England. Pakistan media identified him as Farooq Nazar. He posted a video on social media that showed a member of the security staff at the ground requesting him to cover the shirt, a replica of Pakistan's green limited-overs kit. 'I've been asked by control if you can cover that shirt up, please," a guard can be heard saying in the video. Later, another steward can be heard saying the shirt 'might be considered nationalistic'. However, visibly upset by the demand, the fan left the ground instead of following the suggestion A spokesperson for Lancashire, the county that owns and maintains the stadium, said in a statement that they were looking into it. 'We are aware of the incident referenced and are taking steps to understand the facts and context surrounding the matter fully," they said. This comes at a time when India-Pakistan relations are at a low. The countries haven't played bilateral cricket in years and a recent match between retired veterans for a private league had to be canceled after backlash. The two teams will play in the 2025 Asia Cup and the Women's World Cup, however. Old Trafford witnessed a spectacle Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja batted for over two sessions to rescue India from the verge of a crushing defeat and secure a memorable draw, keeping the fiercely contested series alive ahead of the decider at The Oval. After conceding a 311-run lead and losing both openers for ducks in the second innings, India showed remarkable grit to salvage a result, thanks largely to skipper Shubman Gill (103 off 238), K L Rahul (90 off 230), Jadeja (107* off 185) and Washington (101* off 206). With home skipper Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer dismissing a set Gill and Rahul in the morning, England eyed a series-clinching win, but Jadeja and Washington dug deep before steadily rotating strike to frustrate the bowlers late in the day. view comments First Published: July 28, 2025, 23:40 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'This Is Just The Start': Luka Doncic's Wild Transformation Underlines Thirst For NBA Success With Lakers
Last Updated: Doncic, 26, has committed to rigorous workouts, transforming himself for the upcoming season. He is also expected to sign a four-year extension with the Lakers. Luka Doncic, at just 26, has already built a Hall of Fame resume: five All-NBA First Team selections, 82 career triple-doubles (seventh all-time). Yet, one narrative has lingered — his fitness. For years, despite his elite production, Doncic's physique drew more attention than his stat lines. Critics pointed to his offseason weight fluctuations, and last August, he was publicly criticized for looking 'fat" during a charity game. When the Mavericks traded him to the Lakers in February, whispers followed — stories about his off-court habits, including beer, hookah, and even speculation that he was on Ozempic. But this summer, the conversation has changed — dramatically. Doncic spoke candidly to Men's Health's, revealing that he launched straight into two-a-day workouts the moment the Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Minnesota. 'Obviously, I'm very competitive. This summer was just a little bit different, you know. It kind of motivated me to be even better." The Slovenian star also admitted he didn't fully grasp the demands of the NBA during his early years, which ultimately led to his fitness declining over the initial years. 'When I came to the NBA, I was 18," he said. 'Honestly, I didn't know what to expect those first four or five years. Then I said, 'I need to do this.'" 'Especially in the NBA, you travel almost all the time. You're never home," he explained. 'And for me, you know, after the season, going back home, it's a big thing. I see my friends, my family, I see everybody. So it's not easy for sure." But now, Doncic is embracing the challenge. His approach to fitness is no longer reactive — it's foundational. 'Obviously, be the best that I can be, take care of myself," he said. 'This year, with my team, I think we did a huge step. But this is just the start, you know. I need to keep going. Can't stop." Lakers Betting Big on a Revitalized Star With LeBron James nearing the twilight of his career, the Lakers are entering a new era — one with Doncic as the centerpiece. And they're backing that vision with long-term commitment. According to recent reports, Doncic is expected to sign a four-year contract extension with the Lakers when he becomes eligible on August 2. Now, along with his newfound dedication to fitness, the Lakers will be more than happy to blindly sign who they perceive to be the face of their franchise (and the league) for years to come. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
