Trump, Swift and the crushed Chiefs: Super Bowl highlights

Philadelphia's 40-22 Super Bowl victory on Sunday was marked by the presence of President Donald Trump, crowds booing Taylor Swift, and Kansas City's crushing loss. Here are some highlights from the 59th Super Bowl. - Donald Trump in the house The first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl took a small lap of the field before settling into his box to watch the game. Although First Lady Melania was absent, he was accompanied by other members of the Trump clan -- including his daughter Ivanka and son Eric. His appearance on the giant screens during the national anthem was met with applause, but he left before the end of the game. - Boo Taylor Swift The queen of pop was booed when she appeared on the Caesars Superdome screens during a break in play. The singer turned her head to face the camera with a slightly embarrassed smile. Swift, who is from Pennsylvania, home of the Eagles, had come to support her partner Travis Kelce, playing for Kansas City. - Hip-hop touchdown Kendrick Lamar becomes the first hip-hop artist to solo the halftime concert. Basking in the 15 minutes of glory, he performed his classic hits "Humble" and "DNA", as well as tracks from his latest album "GNX", such as "Peekaboo" or "Squabble Up". Some were expecting a rant against Trump. He may have touched upon the topic when he said: "The revolution will be televised, you chose the right time, but not the right guy". - A Palestinian flag During Lamar's performance an individual dressed like one of the show's dancers climbed onto the rapper's car and waved a banner with intertwined Sudanese and Palestinian flags. He ran across the field for a few seconds before being caught. In a statement, the NFL said the activist was hired as an extra for the show and hid the flag on him until the choreography began. - Adverts steal the show The Super Bowl adverts were once again teaming with stars, from Meg Ryan -- who re-enacted the famous restaurant scene in "When Harry Met Sally" for a mayonnaise brand -- to Matt Damon, who pretended to be David Beckham's brother in a beer commercial. Companies shelled out $8 million for 30 seconds of air time on Fox, which is owned by the Murdoch family. The message of unity was a noticeable theme in adverts featuring rap legend Snoop Dogg and football star Tom Brady -- as well as Harrison Ford, who explained "our differences can be our strength" in an commercial for Jeep. - Artificial Intelligence AI start-up star OpenAI also purchased a spot during the broadcast. The minimalist clip was focused on aesthetic rather than content, attracting a lot of comments on social media, not all positive. Google on the other hand tugged on people's heartstrings, showing a stay-at-home dad preparing for a job interview with the help of the AI assistant Gemini. tu-arb/tmt/tc/fox

Donald Trump heads to the Super Bowl with a complicated NFL history

President Donald Trump will become the first sitting US president to attend the Super Bowl in person this Sunday, navigating a complex relationship with the NFL and a history of intertwining politics and sports. The president will be present at the Superdome in New Orleans for the clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. While the game itself will be the main focus, Trump's reactions will undoubtedly draw attention. The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the 59th Super Bowl, after Patrick Mahomes led his side to a thrilling 32-29 win over the Bills. The Chiefs are now the first back-to-back champions to return to the Super Bowl, having won the past two editions, and they are targeting an unprecedented 'three-peat' in 2025. It is also the fifth time in the last six years that the Chiefs have reached the Super Bowl, winning three of the last five. Trump's visit comes just weeks after the start of his second term, marked by executive orders targeting immigration and government diversity programs. His presence at the Super Bowl, a quintessential American event that transcends political divides, presents a unique backdrop for the Republican president. It also highlights the contrast between Trump's order to eliminate government diversity, equity and inclusion efforts with the NFL's decision to stick with its own initiatives to promote inclusion. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who could come into contact with Trump at the game, said on Monday he had no plans to scale back NFL diversity programs. The league is not putting the phrase 'End Racism' behind one of the end zones, something it has done since 2021, replacing that directive with another one: 'Choose Love.' During his first term in office Trump criticized the league and its members after Black players kneeled during the U.S. national anthem to bring attention to racial injustice. Last year, as a presidential candidate, Trump ran ads during football games blasting his Democratic opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris, for her stance on transgender rights. 'Kamala's for they/them; President Trump is for you,' the ad said. It proved effective, and Trump has continued his crackdown on trans rights from the White House, last week signing an executive order seeking to exclude transgender girls and women from female sports. He will be one of many celebrities at the game. Superstar singer Taylor Swift, who is dating Chiefs player Travis Kelce, is also expected to be in the stadium. She endorsed Harris in the 2024 election.

Super Bowl LIX betting tips: Chiefs to land historic three-peat

Super Bow betting tips The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the 59th Super Bowl on Sunday night, with the Chiefs looking to land a historic 'three-peat' of titles in the biggest match in the sport. It is the fifth time in the last six years that the Chiefs have reached the Super Bowl, they've already won three of those and they beat the Eagles in 2023 – triumphing 38-35 in a thriller at Super Bowl 57. In 2025, superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes once again played his part as his side earned a spectacular 32-29 win over the Bills in the AFC Championship game, making the Chiefs the first back-to-back champions in history to return to the Super Bowl. And two years on from the narrow win that got the Chiefs their 2023 title, they will once again face the Eagles as they look to cement their NFL dynasty. The Eagles earned a convincing 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders in an impressive performance in the NFC Championship game, though NFL betting sites have them as slight underdogs at 1/1 compared to the 5/6 moneyline for the Chiefs. The Chiefs only lost two matches this season on their way to New Orleans – with one coming as coach Andy Reid decided to rest Mahomes and other starters in the final game of the regular season against the Denver Broncos as the number one seed was already secured – and their big-game experience, combined with Mahomes' star quality, makes them difficult to wager against. Nevertheless, the form of both sides is enough to give fans plenty of confidence. The Eagles themselves have only lost three times this season, and are led by the duo of quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley – who finished just 100 yards short of the NFL record for rushing yards (2,005) in the regular season. Chiefs to land historic 'three-peat' As mentioned above, the Chiefs' recent form means its difficult to see them losing on Sunday. Earlier on in the season, the Super Bowl holders were a little more unconvincing, scraping some improbable wins, but their late-season and play-off form has been altogether more impressive. In attack, while they ranked in 12th for points per game and 19th in yards per pass, few will wager against Mahomes and coach Andy Reid coming up with some moments of magic when the stakes are highest, as they did in 2023 against the Eagles. In addition, unlike in previous years, it's been the Chiefs' defence that has arguably been their most impressive outlet, having ranked in the top 10 for opponent's points per game and points per play, as well as yards per game and red-zone touchdown percentage. With the Eagles attack certainly the most fearsome feature of their team, if the Chiefs can keep Hurts and Barkley quiet, then they should earn a hattrick of Super Bowl wins – something that betting sites agree with, offering odds around 5/6 for the Chiefs to win. Super Bowl LIX bet builder: Mahomes, Kelce and Barkley to star Mahomes and Barkley are widely tipped to be the stars of Super Bowl LIX, with both having been their team's main men in the regular season and postseason (alongside Hurts for the Eagles, in Barkley's case). To that end, it might offer good value to create a bet builder with the game's biggest names. While Mahomes has not quite recreated the superb form of previous regular seasons or playoffs this year, his Super Bowl performances speak for themselves, and he has consistently proved himself as the man for the big occasion, with his only Super Bowl loss coming against Tom Brady. While Mahomes has averaged just 211 passing yards per game this postseason, he has averaged 267.8 passing yards over his four Super Bowl starts, and threw 245 yards in the win over the Bills, so the first part of our bet builder sees a wager on him to throw 250+ passing yards, which is 20/27 with bet365. Moving on to Mahomes' Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce, the Ohio native might have experienced a slightly underwhelming regular season, but he remains Mahomes' go-to choice as receiver. If the quarterback is to throw 250 yards, Kelce will likely play a key part in that. Kelce has the second-most receptions on the Chiefs in the postseason, with nine, and while he only earned 19 yards against the Bills, his eight receptions on Christmas Day and seven in the Divisional Round win prove that he remains one of the key men for the Chiefs attack, so a wager on 6+ receptions (at 20/33) forms part of our bet builder. Finally, turning back to the Eagles' star man, Barkley has recorded 25 or more rushing attempts in four of his last five games, with the heavy win over the Commanders meaning he was allowed to rest somewhat. Expected to be the main man in the Eagles attack, it should offer decent value to add him into our bet builder, with a price of 10/21 for 20+ rushing attempts giving us a final bet builder value of 3/1.
