Jaguars star Josh Hines-Allen shares major update on his 7-year-old son's cancer battle ahead of key milestone

The best story of the NFL preseason may already belong to Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen, whose 7-year-old son, Wesley, is winning his battle with leukemia. Hines-Allen previously revealed Wesley's progress at the start of camp last week, but has now revealed more encouraging details about his eldest son's treatment. Specifically, Wesley doesn't have too much more to endure. 'He's doing well,' Hines-Allen told CBS Sports' Pete Prisco. 'He's in full remission right now. We got one more phase right now and then after that, at the end of August, we should be done with all treatment. 'He's doing well,' Hines-Allen continued. 'He's back in school living like a 7-year-old life, which is fun.' Hines-Allen added that Wesley is already back to 'getting in trouble,' which may be the best indicator of all. The former Kentucky standout and first-round draft pick has also launched a foundation, Four One For All, which is doing a season-long initiative titled, Four One For Hope, aimed at supporting four cancer-related nonprofits in 2025. Hines-Allen's oldest boy, Wesley (pictured), was diagnosed with leukemia seven months ago 'We started a foundation last year, Four One Four All,' Hines-Allen said. 'But this year we kind of identified it more to help with childhood cancer awareness. 'We'll be playing and doing things to help families in need and showing our support.' Hines-Allen also expressed his family's gratitude at all of the supporters they've encountered over the last seven months. 'So many so many prayers have been coming our way and we can feel it,' he said. 'To see the smile on his face, we know that prayer works, so we can can't ask for more.' Previously Hines-Allen revealed that Wesley is being treated at Nemours Children's Health in Jacksonville, where he expects to ring the 'cancer-free' bell. And, because Wesley is a normal Florida kid, he's been spending his summer outside. 'He's swimming every day,' Hines-Allen said. 'He's running around. He's playing sports. 'He's got back to being the big brother that he is.' Hines-Allen has reached a pair of Pro Bowls as one of the premiere pass rushers in the AFC with 53 career sacks over six seasons. He signed a five-year, $141 million deal before the 2024 season that includes $77 million in guarantees.

Where does Florida football's Billy Napier fall in CBS Sports' SEC coach rankings?

Florida football head coach Billy Napier has been ranked No. 11 in CBS Sports' SEC coach rankings for the 2025 season. Last year, Napier was ranked No. 13 on the list, although moving up two spots doesn't feel like much of an improvement despite finishing the season on a four-game win streak. Included in those victories were then-ranked No. 21 LSU, No. 9 Ole Miss, Florida State and Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl. But that late-season surge didn't move the needle much going into this year's SEC coach rankings. Napier is entering his fourth and most important season with the Florida Gators and has garnered an exact record of 19-19 during his tenure. CBS Sports' Brad Crawford emphasized the reliance that Napier has on quarterback DJ Lagway. If Lagway struggles, it could be Napier's last season in Gainesville. Here is everything Crawford wrote about Napier heading into the 2025 college football season. What CBS Sports said about Napier "Napier slashed his way through what many considered the toughest schedule in college football history last fall and lived to fight another day with the Gators. And part of the reason for optimism under his tutelage is the emergence of D.J. Lagway at quarterback, a former elite recruit that Napier managed to hold onto before unleashing as a freshman in 2024. "Lagway's the singlemost important player for the former Louisiana coach and likely determines whether his tenure will be successful or not." Rams star predicted to become potential future All-Pro player

The Los Angeles Rams have a lot of emerging talent on the defensive side of the ball. That's all thanks to expert scouting and drafting by Les Snead and Sean McVay, but also quality coaching from defensive coordinator Chris Shula and the rest of the staff. But are any of them All-Pro material? We already saw Jared Verse make the Pro Bowl and win Defensive Rookie of the Year, but making the All-Pro team is an even harder personal accolade to achieve. CBS Sports' Josh Edwards used historical metrics to try to predict which players at all defensive positions could blossom into All-Pro players. Oddly enough, the only Rams player to make the cut was defensive tackle Kobie Turner — not Verse. Turner was regarded as undersized coming out of Wake Forest a few years ago, but in his two professional seasons, has averaged 8.5 sacks. Los Angeles has done a phenomenal job revamping that defensive front, which creates a lot of one-on-one pass rush moments for all involved. It is assumed that Turner will continue receiving and capitalizing on those opportunities. Verse, meanwhile, lost out to Will Anderson Jr. of the Houston Texans — another defending Defensive Rookie of the Year who has shown a lot of promise in limited time — for the linebacker All-Pro prediction slot. This isn't a perfect science, but what Edwards is trying to do is find patterns that give a glimpse of a potential future. Turner has proven to be a great interior defensive lineman who still has work to do to become elite. This could be the year he takes that leap.

Kansas City Chiefs stars are predicted to have their jersey numbers retired down the road

The Kansas City Chiefs have enjoyed significant success with two iconic offensive players on their roster. The legendary careers of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have already had writers and critics looking ahead to their eventual jersey retirements. CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin recently published an article predicting that NFL jersey numbers are on track to be retired, with Kelce and Mahomes at the forefront. "Mahomes is entering his eighth season as the Kansas City Chiefs' starting quarterback in 2025, but he's accomplished more in seven years than most signal-callers dream of achieving." wrote Benjamin, "A three-time Super Bowl champion and the face of an ongoing dynasty, his only issue is that the Chiefs have already retired 10 numbers, prompting owner Clark Hunt to forecast an even stricter policy for the practice." Mahomes and Kelce have three Super Bowl titles and are often tied together in terms of legacy. The article reinforces that notion, with Kelce's No. 87 destined to join No. 15 for retirement. "If the Chiefs honor the man who threw the passes for their dynasty, they'll almost surely do the same for the man who caught so many of them," wrote Benjamin, "Like Mahomes, Kelce is one of, if not the, best of his time." As the two stars enter another training camp ahead of the new season, they will focus on expanding their impressive career resumes.

DJ Lagway cracks top five in CBS Sports' 2025 SEC QB rankings

Florida football quarterback DJ Lagway has cracked the top five in CBS Sports' 2025 SEC quarterback rankings. The sophomore was ranked right at the No. 5 spot by CBS Sports' Brad Crawford. In the rankings, Lagway trailed John Mateer (Oklahoma Sooners), LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina Gamecocks), Arch Manning (Texas Longhorns) and Garrett Nussmeier (LSU Tigers). Crawford mentioned that people around the Florida Gators football program have given Lagway the title of being the best quarterback to play for the Orange and Blue since Tim Tebow. If Lagway can show signs of improvement and progress throughout his collegiate career, there's no doubt that he has a chance to be up there with Tebow when it's all said and done in terms of being one of the best quarterbacks to play for the Gators. During his freshman season, Lagway played in 12 games while starting seven, tallying a 6-1 record in those starts. He threw for 1,915 yards on 115-of-192 passing (59.9 percent), 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions while rushing 51 times for 101 yards. Although those nine interceptions can jump off the page, it's important to note that Lagway was in his first year playing collegiate football facing a gauntlet of a schedule in the SEC. With a year of experience under his belt, Lagway should take a big step forward in terms of improvement going into his sophomore campaign for the Gators. Here is everything Crawford said about Lagway and his position as Florida's quarterback. What CBS Sports said about Lagway "Florida's quarterback did not throw this spring while dealing with an undisclosed shoulder situation, but has been labeled by most around the program as the Gators' top player at the position since Tim Tebow. That's high praise and brings significant -- perhaps unobtainable expectations -- as a first-year starter in 2025. "He has next-level traits and showed plenty of that when he helped the Gators beat nationally-ranked Ole Miss, LSU and Tulane late last fall. And what Lagway has that only a few others do in these rankings is elite talent around him at wide receiver."
