Thailand keen to keep momentum going

Thailand will aim to keep their perfect run going when they face Mongolia in their third Group B game of the AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers in Chiang Mai Wednesday night. The Chaba Kaew had convincing wins in their first two matches of the qualifying tournament for Australia 2026, dominating Timor Leste 4-0 in the opener before thrashing Iraq 7-0. The Thais are in second place in the group with India heading the pool on goal difference. The winners of the eight qualifying groups will join the four seeded teams in next year's finals. Mongolia are still looking for their first point in this competition and are lying at the bottom of the group after two straight losses. Thai-English midfielder Rhianne Rush said after Tuesday's training: "The game with Iraq was my first for the Thai women's national team and I am happy with the way I performed. "For the next game against Mongolia, I think we'll be able to get three points. All the players in the team and the coaching staff are working very hard. "It's good to see so many people cheering us at the venue and watching our games on TV." The match between Thailand and Mongolia will kick off at 7.30pm at Chiang Mai's 700th Anniversary Stadium and will be broadcast live on the Changsuek YouTube channel and the Thai Women's Football Facebook page. In the first match of the day, India will take on Iraq at 4pm at the same venue. Teerasil joins Angels Veteran Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda has joined Thai League 1 runners-up Bangkok United. Thais romp as Wirunya fires 3 goals

Thailand continued their bid to qualify for the AFC Women's Asian Cup finals with a 7-0 demolition of Iraq in their second Group B qualifying tie at Chiang Mai's 700th Anniversary Stadium on Sunday night. The win took Thailand to six points, level with India, who lead on goal difference, and the hosts will aim for a third win when they face Mongolia on Wednesday while Iraq play India. The Chaba Kaew put on a better show than the first match and in the 13th minute, Pichayatida Manowang set Wirunya Kwenkasikum free to score the opener. Pichayatida then doubled Thailand's lead in the 36th minute with a cool finish into the top left corner before Panittha Jeeratanapavibul struck from distance in the first-half stoppage time. Thailand got their fourth goal from Karnajanathat Phomsri, who struck in the 58th minute from a counter-attacking move, before she netted again with a 65th-minute penalty. Wirunya increased her personal tally in the 77th minute for a 6-0 lead, before completing her hat-trick with a fine header to cap an impressive outing for Thailand in the dying moments of the match. Thailand head coach Futoshi Ikeda praised his players' composure after his team's victory in their second match of the qualifiers for Australia 2026. "After the first match, we had only two days to recover and prepare again. We focused on helping the players recover physically and get ready for the match," said Ikeda. "Everyone performed well. There were quite a few changes, but we stuck to our playing style."

Thailand expect tough test against Iraq

Thailand will be seeking their second Group B win in the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers when they take on Iraq at Chiang Mai's 700th Anniversary Stadium Sunday night. In the first match of the day, India will face Timor Leste at 4pm with the Thailand-Iraq game slated for 7.30pm. The Chaba Kaew picked up their first three points by routing Timor Leste 4-0 three days ago. The Thai women's team trained for more than an hour on Saturday at the Prince Royal College in Chiang Mai. Thailand defender Praewa Nudnabee said after the training session: "In the game with Timor, me and other defenders did well but I think we could have scored more goals. "We are getting better as a team but need to improve a lot of things tactically, especially being more clinical in front of the goal. "I am always happy playing as a right back and have had great success in the role. It allows me to help the team both in defence and in attack. This is how I play at my club as well. "I expect a tougher game against Iraq as they have some very talented players. Some of them are playing in foreign leagues like Sweden and in the US. "They are strong physically and have good individual skills, but we are ready to handle them and are aiming to pick up three points from this game. "I hope the Thai football fans will keep on cheering our team. We have three matches left and we will try to win all of them."

Saowalak stars in Thai romp

Thailand kicked off their AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers Group B campaign with a 4-0 victory over Timor Leste at Chiang Mai's 700th Anniversary Stadium on Thursday night. Thailand captain Saowalak Pengngam hit a first-half hat-trick, while substitute Ploychompoo Somnuek scored the fourth goal in stoppage time. The Chaba Kaew are third in Group B, level on points with India, but behind the Blue Tigresses on goal difference. Iraq top the standings with four points from two games. Timor, who drew 0-0 with Iraq in their opening match, came under pressure as early as the second minute with goalkeeper Gorette Da Costa denying Pattaranan Aupachai's volley from inside the box. However, Saowalak broke the deadlock three minutes later when Pattaranan's shot was blocked but the rebound fell kindly for the Chaba Kaew forward to convert from close range. Thailand got their second goal on 31 minutes with Saowalak using her speed to dribble past her marker before firing a low shot into the bottom corner. An error from Da Costa a minute before the break widened Thailand's advantage with Saowalak completing her hat-trick after pouncing on an errant pass from inside the box. Thailand got the fourth goal in the second minute of added time from Ploychompoo, who turned in Natcha Kaewanta's pass from inside the area. Coach Futoshi Ikeda was satisfied with his team's victory but admitted there is still plenty of room for improvement. "Getting the win in our first game is satisfying but looking back, we created a lot of chances. We should have scored more goals," said Ikeda. Iraq claimed a 5-2 win over Mongolia in the group's other fixture. Thailand will face Iraq on Sunday while Timor Leste will aim to bounce back when they will take on India.
