'Kim Kardashian's £52 face wrap feeds into a dangerous obsession with facial perfection'
SKIMS has launched a brand new product that claims to help sculpt your face and help you wake up with a 'seriously sharp and contoured face' - but critics question whether it's taking beauty standards one step too far Kim Kardashian's SKIMS brand has never held back when it comes to unconventional standards of fashion lines - but the latest launch has left people divided. From bras with fake nipples on show to micro bikinis that would struggle to even cover a Dorito, it's a brand that always gets people talking. Renowned for their ultimate body shapewear, promising sleek silhouettes and serious tummy control knickers, the $3billion (£2.2bn) SKIMS empire has just released Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap designed to give you a snatched and sharp jawline, reduce puffiness and improve facial definition - apparently. Amid the launch, Mirror writer Danielle Kate Wroe called for the product to be "stopped". The shapewear, inspired by lymphatic drainage massages comes in two colours and tightly wraps around your face and neck and fastened with a Velcro strap. It's designed to be worn to bed, in the hope you wake up with a seriously sculpted face - but does it work? According to Kim, it's an "absolute necessity", as the contraption is infused with collagen yarns and the new launch, in true SKIMS style, has already sold out after only launching on July 29. Costing a staggering £52, shoppers are hoping to copy Kim's ultra-sculpted face shape. With many calling for women to just "sleep in peace", they aren't convinced this product is a good idea - including renowned skincare guru and expert Caroline Hirons, was seen chiming in on the Skims Instagram comments, asking: "Is it April Fools?" Another Instagram user wrote: "Guys, there's straight up no science to back this. Believe me, I've looked (I've always had a double chin) Save your money." While others are comparing it to Hannibal Lecter as well as The Handmaids Tale and slamming the "disturbing" product to pressuring women to conform to these beauty standards. One of the unique selling points of the product is the collagen yarn, and according to Olga Skydan, dermatologist and member of the Medical Expert Board at the face yoga app Luvly, the term sounds scientific, but it's "largely a marketing ploy". She told The Mirror: "Collagen yarn refers to textile fibres infused with collagen peptides derived from fish or bovine sources. In some garments, these are used for moisturizing or skin-conditioning benefits. But the thing is, collagen molecules are far too large to penetrate intact through the skin barrier, and certainly too large to do so via a garment." She highlighted that it can't help promise a snatched face and compared it to a Gua Sha. She said: "Gua sha, at least, is based on traditional massage techniques that stimulate lymphatic drainage and blood flow. On the other hand, the SKIMS face wrap does something similar, but in a compressive way. It can temporarily reduce puffiness, just as sleeping in an upright position can. But make no mistake, there's no rejuvenation happening here." The expert also notes concern over the wording used for the product. The product is called 'Seamless Sculpt" and Olga said 'sculpted,' and other similar adjectives, "feeds into an already dangerous obsession with facial perfection and symmetry among women" and added: "The implication is that natural softness or aging is something to be concealed or fixed. And the fact that the solution is marketed as something you can wear at home while multitasking suggests that we should always be optimizing ourselves, even during rest." here are a lot of effective, non-invasive options out there, according to the expert. For example, professional-grade radiofrequency and ultrasound can stimulate collagen and elastin and at-home products such as retinoids and peptides can help improve skin density over time. As well as lifestyle habits like a consistent use of SPF, a protein-rich diet, adequate hydration, and quality sleep still form the foundation of skin health. Goldendoodle Dropped at Groomer With Matted Ears—No One Prepared for Result
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A North Carolina groomer's routine haircut for a goldendoodle has unexpectedly delighted viewers online, turning his simple trim into a viral moment, thanks to the stark contrast in how the canine looked before and after the visit. The TikTok video, shared by Sarah White under @charlottedoggrooming on June 6, shows a dog named Jett at his grooming appointment. Initially shaggy in a way that is typical for his breed, Jett emerges nearly unrecognizable after having his ears shaved due to matting. "What a doodle with shaved ears looks like," an overlaid text on the video read. More than 259,000 people have watched the video to date, with several viewers voicing their amusement at the dramatic transformation in the comments. White, 28, told Newsweek that Jett's owners trusted her judgment on the grooming approach. Shaving his ears was necessary for his comfort and hygiene—but the result took everyone by surprise, including White. "It unexpectedly sparked a really adorable and wholesome response," White said. "So many doodle owners started sharing photos of their own dogs with shaved ears. "It turned into a lighthearted, feel-good thread of proud pet parents showing off their pups!" From left: Jett the goldendoodle stands on a table at his grooming salon in Charlotte, North Carolina. From left: Jett the goldendoodle stands on a table at his grooming salon in Charlotte, North Carolina. @charlottedoggrooming Goldendoodles, a popular hybrid of golden retrievers and poodles, are known for their thick, curly coats, which can easily become matted if not maintained with regular grooming. While shaved ears may not be the standard look for the breed, Jett's new appearance seemed to charm viewers on TikTok rather than shock them. "My [favorite] but my clients never want to," one viewer posted. "I love short ears on dogs, that makes them look so much younger," another added. "Love a short ear, very silky," a third viewer shared. "We call these Dorito ears, and I love them," one viewer said. "I'm actually not mad at this," another commented. White, who has been a pet groomer for six years, runs a mobile nail-trimming business with her husband called N.E.A.T Mobile and also offers full grooming services at home. "It has been really heartwarming to see the community engage so positively," White said. "Getting that many likes was not planned, but I am so glad it happened with something that brought smiles and good energy. "As a groomer, I love when a simple transformation can spark joy, and in this case, it definitely did!" White added that the reaction from Jett's owners was just as rewarding as the public response. "The owners were ecstatic when they came to pick him up afterwards," she said. Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? From Dorito rolls to eel tempura: Mexico City's newest culinary gem
I admit it can be dizzying. It's like arriving in a country where you expect one type of meal and are transported to another land entirely. For example, Dorito sushi. How could I not order such a thing? It sounds like a gimmick until you take a bite, and then it isn't. The shrimp and cream cheese roll, coated with crushed Doritos and gooey shrimp topping, is a perfect balance of creamy, salty, and crunchy with lingering spice on the lips. Get Winter Soup Club A six-week series featuring soup recipes and cozy vibes, plus side dishes and toppings, to get us all through the winter. Enter Email Sign Up According to Chavez, the inspiration for this and other rolls comes from Culiacan, a colorful town where everything is brightly painted — cars, tombstones, houses — and you'll find anything and everything in their sushi. Thus, the menu's Dorito roll, and the genre-bending Yapa roll with platanos, cream cheese, pork belly, carrot and jicama salad, flambeed bacon, and caramelized onion. Advertisement Not all cross-cultural dishes are rolls. Crispy tostadas are topped with yellowfin tuna, avocado, and ponzu sauce, and edamame are tossed in Sriracha and garlicky sesame oil. 'We make things our own way,' said chef Chavez. 'It's not a gimmick, it's real food. The base ingredients and technique are the most important, plus a pinch of salt and heat. If it's right, you don't need to fix it.' At Suchi in Mexico City, decorative plates sport mask-wearing Japanese super heroes. Necee Regis Sushi traditionalists won't be disappointed by a wide choice of familiar dishes such as hand rolls, spring rolls, tempura, fried rice, sashimi and nigiri selections, and California and spicy tuna rolls. One favorite, Himitzu maki, is a variation of a classic eel roll with eel tempura wrapped in silky avocado, topped with an eel sauce and crunchy arare — tiny, crunchy soy-flavored rice crackers. Simple wood tables are enlivened with decorative plates sporting mask-wearing Japanese superheroes, and red cloth napkins embroidered with more masked heads. The vibe is casual and celebratory, not stuffy, and creatively attired patrons seemed to be more Mexican than gringo. We played a game: Is he a famous Mexican film director? Is she a doyenne of the city's fashion world? We'd never know, but it was fun to observe our fellow diners in such a festive mood. The restaurant is located in the Roma Norte, on the border of Condesa, two neighborhoods touted for their bohemian vibes and vibrant culinary offerings. Tucked inside the Hotel Casona Norte, in a restored, 1920s mansion, Suchi is accessible from the hotel's lobby or directly from the street. 'I'm so happy to be at La Casona,' said Chavez, who has several different types of restaurants in other cities in Mexico. But his heart right now is all in Mexico City. Advertisement 'I love Mexico City. They have all the flavors of the cocinas of Mexico in one place. It is the place to be. When you are there, you are everywhere.' Agreed. Bombshell Donald Trump MSNBC coverage admission made by former Joe Biden staffer
Jen Psaki has confessed that MSNBC's coverage of President Donald Trump - who has described as "disgusting" over his Pope Francis criticism - is "typically not positive." Renowned for its liberal slant, the network counts Psaki, a former press secretary under President Joe Biden , among its voices. Psaki - who earned her primetime slot in MSNBC shakeup after the bombshell Joy Reid show Axe - acknowledged that the audience doesn't anticipate flattering commentary on Trump, who was recently described as a "nuclear Dorito" over his use of fake tan. "There's obviously a rooted value in the kind of ... that MSNBC viewers expect of like we're going to talk about the opposition, and we're going to talk about what the opposing party is up to, in terms of the Democrats, and we're going to talk about future leaders and things," the broadcaster said. I don't think anybody watching expects it to be positive, right?" Jen Psaki worked in the Biden White House (Image: Shannon Finney/NBC via Getty Images) While everyone on the channel approaches their role distinctively, Psaki pointed out that a common thread of criticism directed at the President prevails, which she described as the "fairly the vibe." Furthermore, she stressed that since Trump's ascent to the presidency, there'd been no directive from her superiors pushing her towards centrist views or courting right-wing audiences, reports the Mirror US . "I have not experienced this like, 'You have to move to the center, you have to have Republicans on, you have to be more moderate, you can't say that thing,'" she said on The Grill Room podcast. Psaki went on to note that although each program may possess its guiding principle, they all exist beneath a collective ethos. Psaki's remarks follow a significant reshuffle at MSNBC. She recently secured a primetime slot as part of the revamp, taking on the 9 p.m. slot from Thursday to Friday. In two weeks, Psaki will step in for the outgoing host Alex Wagner, as announced by MSNBC in February. Wagner will continue her association with the network as a senior political analyst. Jen Psaki now works for MSNBC (Image: Getty Images) Other shows hosted by Ayman Mohyeldin, Jonathan Capehart, Katie Phang, and Jose Diaz-Balart have also been dropped from MSNBC. Outspoken Trump critic Joy Reid was also shown the door. For all the latest news straight to your inbox, sign up for our FREE newsletters here . "I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets," she said. The TV anchor added: "So very proud of The Reidout @ team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters and friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time."
