Egypt releases 2, 777 prisoners on occasion of Eid al-Fitr celebrations

File- Relatives of inmates react while waiting for news of their loved ones outside the Cadereyta state prison after a riot broke out at the prison, in Cadereyta Jimenez CAIRO – 1 April 2025: The Egyptian Ministry of Interior released a total of 2,777 prisoners, who have been granted presidential pardon, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr (the Feast of Breaking the Fast) celebrations on Tuesday. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has issued Decision No. 158 of 2025, granting a pardon for the remaining sentences of certain convicts in honor of Eid al-Fitr and Sinai Liberation Day, which will be observed on April 25, 2025. The four-day celebration of Eid al-Fitr began on March 31 and conclude on April 2, 2025. Eid al-Fitr marks the first of Shawwal in the Islamic year 1446 AH.

300 public parks in Cairo open doors to citizens for Eid al-Fitr celebrations

Ferial park CAIRO – 31 March 2025: Cairo's parks are welcoming visitors today on the first day of Eid al-Fitr (the Feast of Breaking the Fast). The Egyptian capital is home to approximately 300 public parks, all of which have opened their doors to citizens for the three-day holiday after undergoing extensive maintenance throughout Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims worldwide fast from the dawn to the sunset, and upgrading their facilities to better accommodate the public. For instance, the International Park in the Nassr City has witnessed a high turnout. Entertainment programs have been prepared for children, including DJ performances, puppet shows, and a train that tours the park. Major General Hesham El Gammal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Specialized Parks Project in Cairo, said that these activities are being implemented across all parks, approximately 300 in total, with the International Park being a highlight. The miniature zoo at the International Park has also been prepared to welcome children, along with the park's two amusement parks and water parks.

CAIRO – 31 March 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attended the Eid al-Fitr celebrations (the Feast of Breaking the Fast) on Monday, accompanied by the children of martyrs from the Armed Forces and Police, as well as several injured personnel from both the Armed Forces and Police, Extra News reported. The President honored several families of martyrs and injured members of the Armed Forces and Police, and then posed for a picture with martyrs' children, sharing their joy on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi performed the prayer Eid al-Fitr (the Feast of Breaking the Fast) at Field Marshal Tantawi Mosque in Cairo. Egyptians celebrated the first day of Eid al-Fitr, Monday, after Dar al-Ifta announced that the Shawwal crescent moon wasn't sighted on March 29. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended greetings to Egyptian people as well as the Arab and Muslim nations on Eid Al-Fitr in a social media post on Sunday. 'I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the great Egyptian people and to the Arab and Islamic nations,' the president said.

President Sisi exchanges greetings with world leaders on occasion of Eid Al-Fitr

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi- File Photo CAIRO – 29 March 2025: Several phone calls took place between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and other world leaders, greeting each other on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr (the Feast of Breaking the Fast) due to start on Sunday. President Sisi exchanged greetings with Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Jordanian King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, King of Bahrain Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The leaders also conveying their sincere wishes for continued stability and progress for their countries. The Egyptian Dar al-Iftaa (the House of issuing Fatwas) will sight the crescent of Shawwal 1446 AH, which will signal the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on Saturday evening. If the crescent of Shawwal- the tenth month of Islamic Calendar - was sighted this evening, the beginning of the four-day celebrations of Eid Al-Fitr will start on March 30. Meanwhile, it the crescent was not observed, the Eid al-Ftir will start on March 31. On March 24, 2025, Egypt's Cabinet declared a four-day paid holiday for both public servants and the private sector to mark Eid al Fitr. The statement further clarified that if the sighting of the crescent moon of Shawwal determines that Monday, March 31, 2025, will be the first day of Shawwal, the holiday will be extended until Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
