PKR sec-gen Fuziah to officiate PKR youth, women's wings congresses

JOHOR BARU: Speculation on who would officiate the PKR Youth and PKR Wanita congresses in Johor Baru on Thursday (May 22) has been resolved after PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh confirmed to Astro Awani that she would be taking on the responsibility. The Malay language portal also reported that although it was customary for the party deputy president to officiate the congresses of both wings, the incumbent, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, had earlier confirmed he would not attend. Quoting online reports, Astro Awani reported that Fuziah had said the responsibility for officiating the congresses was given to her because other senior leaders were involved in the central leadership council (MPP) elections. Although Rafizi confirmed he would not be officiating at the congress for these wings, he will still be in Johor Baru on May 20 for the final Hiruk series before attending the PKR national elections and congress on May 23 and 24. Rafizi's campaign goes by the acronym Hiruk, which stands for Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa (Reviving Reform Idealism in a Test of Power).

Rafizi shares list of aligned candidates ahead of PKR polls

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli took to Facebook on Wednesday (May 21) to release a list of candidates aligned with his campaign in Friday's (May 23) PKR central leadership polls. Rafizi's campaign goes by the acronym Hiruk, which stands for Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa (Reviving Reform Idealism in a Test of Power). In his Facebook post, Rafizi listed three vice-presidents who are defending their posts, including Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harum, Chang Lih Kang (Science, Technology and Innovation Minister) and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister) as well as Manivanan Gowin, who is contesting the fourth elected vice-president post. Other on the list include Subang MP Wong Chen, Deputy Energy Transition and Public Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, who is vying for the PKR Wanita chief's post with incumbent Fadhlina Sidek (who is also Education Minister). "Our challenge today is to choose a leader who is able to stick to the ideals of reform, even when tested by power," Rafizi said in his post. He also added that over the past few weeks, he had received a variety of insights and messages from PKR grassroots members who want a strong leadership line-up with a reformative spirit and not just in pursuit of power or position.

Saifuddin: Rafizi needs to focus on PKR election campaign

PAPAR: Former PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has advised Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli to set aside concerns about external issues and focus on the upcoming party election campaign. "I believe the priority should be to complete the campaign in accordance with the rules, where we explain our track record and share our vision for strengthening the party. "We should not be distracted by external factors or concerns. Rafizi is a close friend of mine, and we speak on the phone almost every day. "It is my responsibility to tell him to focus on the party election campaign, especially with the election just around the corner," he said after attending the launch of Battalion 21 General Operations Force (PGA) Keningau, Battalion 22 PGA Kunak and Battalion 23 PGA Sri Aman at the Sabah PGA Brigade today. Present were Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun. Yesterday, while speaking at the 'Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa' programme in Kuching, Rafizi hinted that he might be barred from entering Sarawak again if he no longer holds a position in the government or party, including as PKR deputy president in the future. He said before being appointed as a minister in the unity government, he was already accustomed to being banned from entering Sarawak. As such, he added, it is not impossible for the ban to be reinstated if he no longer holds a position in the party or cabinet. Saifuddin, who is also home minister, said he is confident Sarawak today is an important strategic partner in contributing to the political stability of the country. "As I mentioned earlier, one of the key indicators in the Global Peace Index that carries significant weight is political stability. "Sarawak is a friendly state. I believe there is no need for us to make any statement or take actions prematurely before something actually happens," he said.

Rafizi: Use current political situation to strengthen PKR in Sarawak

KUCHING — PKR members in Sarawak have been urged to view the current political situation in the state as an opportunity to regroup and strengthen themselves for future challenges. Incumbent PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said that, given Sarawakians' current preference for the existing state government, party members should use this period as an opportunity to 'invest' in cultivating a new generation of party leaders. 'This low point in our political cycle is a good time for us to invest in the party's future. Use this period to develop new talent, because the cycle will turn and our time will come,' he said at the Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa (HIRUK) Tour programme last night. According to him, based on PKR's performance in past elections in Sarawak, the party has shown potential to win at least three parliamentary seats in the future. 'Miri is indeed our stronghold here in Sarawak, but there are also two or three other parliamentary constituencies with real potential,' he said, citing Kanowit, Selangau, and Puncak Borneo as among the promising seats. In the 15th General Election (GE15), PKR successfully retained the Miri parliamentary seat for three consecutive terms since GE13 in 2013. Rafizi said that PKR had previously won the Selangau and Puncak Borneo parliamentary seats, and narrowly lost the Kanowit seat in the GE15. He added that whoever is elected in the party election on May 23 should give serious attention to the concerns raised by members in Sarawak, particularly in ensuring the party remains relevant in the state. –BERNAMA
