Kate Middleton Gives an Adorable, Rare Look at Princess Charlotte in 10th Birthday Portrait

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Princess Charlotte officially enters the double digits today. In honor of her 10th birthday, Prince William and Kate Middleton released a new portrait of their daughter, continuing a long-standing family tradition. The image, shared on the couple's official Instagram account, was taken by the Princess of Wales during a recent hike in Cumbria, a region in northwest England. Charlotte is pictured smiling against a backdrop of open countryside and hills, dressed in a camouflage jacket and blue backpack. The young royal isn't frequently in the public eye, but she did attend the family's traditional Christmas Day church outing in December. Charlotte is Kate and William's second oldest child and is currently third in line to the British throne. She was born on May 2, 2015, in London. Her full name, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, pays tribute to both Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana. Kate and William have marked each child's birthday with a new photo since Prince George was born in 2013. While some portraits have been more formal, this year's image is candid and casual. The release follows a similar post celebrating Prince Louis's seventh birthday in April and comes just ahead of Prince George's 12th birthday in July. Kate, who announced her remission from cancer in January, has slowly resumed her royal duties. She recently made a public appearance on St. Patrick's Day in London, attending the Irish Guards' annual parade in a dark-green Alexander McQueen coat and hat. Why Did Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Their Kids Skip Easter Sunday Services in Windsor?

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Kate Middleton, Prince William, and their three children are missing Easter Sunday services in Windsor. After celebrating the holiday privately last year, in the wake of the Princess of Wales announcing her cancer diagnosis, the Wales family was once again absent from the royal family's annual attendance at church services in Windsor. The family of five is instead spending Easter at Anmer Hall, their country home in Norfolk. The last time they joined the rest of the royals for Easter was in 2023. While the British royals don't host a public Easter egg hunt, Kate and William have previously indicated that their children do mark the holiday with one—just as Queen Victoria's children did decades ago. As Queen Victoria wrote in a journal entry in 1869, 'After breakfast, the children, as usual on this day looked for Easter eggs.' The Princess of Wales has made a measured return to royal duties this year since announcing last September that she had finished chemotherapy and sharing this past January that she was officially in remission. 'As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to,' she wrote. In the months since, she has limited her public engagements; her last public outing was over a month ago, on St. Patrick's Day, when she attended the Irish Guards' parade. Earlier this week, Kensington Palace released a short film showing Kate visiting a group of Scouts in the Lake District and speaking about her relationship with nature. Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have yet to join the royals on any official events this year, though George did join Prince William at two soccer games recently. Kate Middleton and Prince William's Last 5 Years 'Have Been a Nightmare for Them'

When people think about five years ago in the royal family, they likely think of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who stepped away from life as working royals in 2020 and relocated from the U.K. to the U.S. It is certainly not a competition (just so we're clear), but Prince William and Kate Middleton, too, have endured so much in that same timeframe: the deaths of both Prince Philip in 2021 and Queen Elizabeth in 2022; their elevated role as Prince and Princess of Wales following the Queen's passing; and then 2024, which saw both Kate and King Charles diagnosed with cancer. It was a year William referred to as 'brutal' last November, one that he called the hardest of his life. Speaking to People for the magazine's cover story released March 19, royal historian Amanda Foreman said a year like 2024 'either crushes a marriage, or it brings them together.' In the Prince and Princess of Wales' case, it seems to have brought them closer together, both proverbially and even literally, as they've never been so open with public displays of affection as they have been as of late. 'There is a sense of protectiveness and partnership,' Foreman said. 'The last five years have been a nightmare for them in every possible way—the past year even more so.' Of last year, Jason Knauf, William and Kate's former private secretary, told 60 Minutes Australia last month, 'If you're Prince William, you find out that both your wife and your father have cancer' contributed to it being the 'lowest' Knauf has ever seen the future king. In January, Kate announced that she is in remission from cancer, and is making her gradual return to annual royal events, including this month's Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey and the Irish Guards' St. Patrick's Day parade. While neither Kate nor William will ever likely be the person they were before 2024—and that's okay—normalcy seems to be returning for the couple as they get back to their royal routine while also being mindful of all they've learned from the past year. (March 22 marks one year since Kate made a video announcement telling the world that she had been diagnosed with cancer following major abdominal surgery in January.) William and Kate's return in full is 'just in time, frankly,' Foreman told People. 'If there was ever a time when the country required stability, this is it.' 'The international stage is so unstable, it is rather extraordinary to see how both have risen to the occasion,' she added. Read the original article on InStyle

Kate Middleton and Prince William Are ‘Happy for People to See Them Be Touchy-Feely'

They might not be a couple famed for their public displays of affection, but after the intensity of the Princess of Wales's and King Charles III's cancer battles, it has now been revealed that Kate Middleton and Prince William are, in fact, in a new phase of their lives. In the couple's most recent appearances, the pair has made no secret of their affection for each other, from sharing a romantic photograph to mark Valentine's Day on Instagram to holding hands on a recent visit to Wales. The change in how they showcase their love publicly is very much a reflection of where they are now as partners. Speaking to People, royal biographer Ingrid Seward said, 'They are happy for people to see them be touchy-feely.' 'They're in a different phase of their life now. William is very protective and very proud of her for coming through this and carrying on with her life,' Seward added. The revelation follows a year of intense pressure for the couple. In February 2024, during surgery for a benign enlarged prostate, King Charles received a cancer diagnosis. One month later, the Princess of Wales announced her own cancer diagnosis. Since announcing this January that she's in remission, the princess has been slowly returning to royal duties, most recently attending the Irish Guards' St. Patrick's Day Parade in London on March 17. Kate was named honorary colonel of the Irish Guards in 2022, a role she inherited from Prince William after King Charles III ascended to the throne. Kate Middleton Is 'Feeling Closer to 100 Percent' One Year After Publicly Announcing Cancer Diagnosis

It has been nearly one year to the day since Kate Middleton announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer, and she's exceeding expectations as she continues her royal return. Following major abdominal surgery in January 2024, the Princess of Wales announced last March 22 that she had been diagnosed with cancer, detected after the surgery. Kate was largely away from public life for most of 2024 save for a handful of appearances, and announced on September 9 that her chemotherapy treatment had ended before revealing on January 14 of this year that she was in remission. (Shockingly, her father-in-law King Charles was also diagnosed with cancer following a January procedure; his treatment continues. Neither Kate nor Charles' types or stages of cancer have ever been publicly disclosed.) Now into 2025, Kate is more and more returning to royal duty, and royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told People that 'She has been very good at managing expectations, and it's wise for her to downplay it a bit because when she does more than people anticipated, it has a greater impact.' 'It's evident that she is feeling closer to 100 percent than one would have thought at this stage,' Bedell Smith added. Kate has undertaken several royal engagements already in 2025, both solo and with husband Prince William. The couple visited Wales last month ahead of St. David's Day, and over the weekend attended a Six Nations rugby match, where the pair—married for nearly 14 years—cheered for opposing teams. On Monday, Kate stepped out without William to attend the Irish Guards' St. Patrick's Day parade as the regiment's Colonel-in-Chief. 'She's making her outings more meaningful in a way that had never been done before,' royal historian Amanda Foreman told People. 'And she's ahead of the curve—creating the meaningful moment rather than the Instagrammable moment.' 'She is the MVP of the royal family, and no one knew when she was going to come back,' Foreman added. Though Kate is in remission, one can't go through a health scare like the Princess of Wales did in 2024 and not be changed. One year on from telling the world about her diagnosis—timed so that it would be in the best interest of kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—royal biographer Ingrid Seward said that 'It takes time to feel comfortable and do things your way without always worrying.' Bethan Holt, who is fashion director at The Telegraph, told People of the Princess of Wales, 'She has an inner steel about what she wants and a drive that will be reflected in what she does and what she wears,' and Foreman added, 'She is staying on message and is projecting this very mature image, a restrained elegance.'
